Equifax Hacked - 143M US Consumers could be affected

I don't understand how equifax stock is worth anything anymore. That company should be a crater in the ground left as a reminder to all the other financial institutions about the consequences of taking security too lightly.

Because they still have lots of valuable information to people like me and I'm not likely to either of the other two.

I don't understand why credit systems aren't run by the government. Or healthcare, for that matter. I want to buy my healthcare program on Amazon, just like everything else 😀

It would probably be a way better deal/experience/value than dealing with the current hc companies.

The same government that thought it was a good idea to hire this company to handle IRS security stuff? I honestly don't know which party is the bigger idiot here.

I don't really have anything against them. Most of the local companies use/report to equifax. That data may or may not get swapped with the other agencies. IIRC, in years past, they didn't do a good job of swapping but that could just be my faulty memory or bias because equifax is the devil that I know.

I'm not sure that I feel comfortable with you having all of my sensitive information. If I start getting pamphlets and postcards in the mail.....

The worst part is that certain things that you sign up for likely have some clause deep down in the bowels of a random agreement that you allow them to "share information with partners". For example, I took out a loan to do a kitchen remodel, and I literally get debt relief/personal loan mailers almost every day. It's hard to prove that's exactly what it was, but I am getting quite tired of the constant pestering. According to the Informed Daily Digest from USPS, I'm getting three more today in the mail. Yay.... 🙄

That's exactly what happens but it's not just lenders. Everyone sells your info. Have a pizza delivered. You gave your name, address and phone #. Pizza man then sells it.

Agreed. I figure that taking out a loan is a prime reason for any sort of "debt relief" companies to try to "help" you, which is why I started getting them. I wouldn't care if it was very rare, but I get at least one almost every day. I also hate just throwing stuff like that away, because I prefer to shred financial offers regardless of whether they require PII to even be submitted.

when they send them with prepaid, self-addressed envelopes, I shred up their offer, put it in the return envelope, and back in the mail. No reason they shouldn't be 2x on the hook for mailing trash to my place, and no reason I should be the one disposing of it.

Do you know by doing this you are helping the usps. USPS needs all the help they can get. Keep up the good work

I'm fine with that. for all the flack USPS gets (mostly deserved), there isn't anything else like it in the world. It's actually quite staggering that you can get a letter from one side of this country to the next in a few days, for about 50 cents, with a very, very, very high success rate. People that bitch about the USPS really have no appreciation for how the rest of the world operates when it comes to mail service.
