us indians wish we had it so lucky. no such thing as an "engagement ring" or "wedding ring". you better damn make sure you have enough 22K gold necklace sets, tikas, bangles, etc or you ain't getting that contract. for those prices i can buy a honda civic, new tv, and ps4 and still die a happy man.

They have a point though. High carat gold looks a lot better than the gold scented brass westerners are used to wearing.

pricescope.com is probably one of the best resources online for the average person to get a feel for what a diamond is going to sell for.

Keep in mind the 4C's really don't mean that much in pricing. A diamonds proportions ultimately are the big price factor.

You can get a 1 carat round D VSS1 with a terrible cut for less than a .7 carat G SI2 with a superb cut.

Thinking about it a bit more, IMHO CZ in 22k gold be a better bang for the buck than a high priced rock in 14-18k gold.

I bought at a local upscale chain. Early in the process I figured out that diamonds are pretty damn near commodity priced when graded accurately. So, I played the system, learned how to find a good stone and found a good one someone graded a hair lower than it should have been. Went through all the loose rocks in 5 stores and just had a blast doing it.

On the size/cost.... She had told me to buy small, but I didn't like the way the small ones looked, so I bought bigger. Since it's such a great diamond, she got over it pretty quick.

She wears it daily, we've been married almost 3 years. If she didn't want to wear it, I wouldn't give her crap, but she likes it.

Setting a ring in 22k would be idiotic. For one the prongs would not hold well and the ring itself would be to easily bent.

I bought my wife's ring from a customer that happened to own a shop down in the diamond district in NYC.

Also make sure you do your research on the 4 C's. Some are far more important than others, especially the cut. You probably wont have a need for a clarity more than SI1 and odds are you wont be able to see anything with your naked eye at that point.

When setting it, keep in mind that some of the real fancy settings have tension mounts. They look really cool, but you risk knocking the stone from the ring and losing it.

Don't be forced into keeping up with any Jone's on this. Do what you can afford. Its easy to say, but sometimes hard to follow.

Remember that the expensive part is still to come, ie the wedding and whatever comes after (life).

Make sure you get it appraised and insured. I know far too many people who have lost their rings in some form of water.

Bought my wifes at Kays for like 1500 or something. Picked up the wedding ring for like 600. Fused them together. So they are essentially one ring now.

Congrats, so you have 2 rings out of 3.

I guess that depends on the person. We've been married for almost 9 years now and I couldn't imagine being with any one else.

Hmm I think I may go with one of the online retailers or shane co. I think shane co may have one of the best warranties for diamonds

What's a diamond warranty?

And you don't really need a diamond warranty. What you need is an appraisal and a rider on your home owners insurance/renters insurance for the entire ring.

Shane co's warranty covers like everything, like if my gf falls and the ring hits the ground or something really hard and the diamond comes out, shane co will replace the diamond and ring no questions ask.
