Origin beats out DL speed for Steam and Impulse for me, and keeps all of my EA titles in one place. Don't really need it to do any more; Steam is the better client, absolutely, but Origin is far from shitty.

Why is this an issue? Pretty much any new title out there needs to be online to play these days. Just because it's Origin? You people are so damn petty.

Some places I travel I don't have Internet. Steam lets you play offline mode for single player games. Not sure why not Origin/EA?

Origin is fine, it's not the best, but I'm just happy we're getting another, proper SimCity.

This. I'm not thrilled about the MP component, but it doesn't really take away anything for me, and I'm psyched after reading through their goals for the game.

I don't like having a new service shoved onto me when there is a clearly superior service that's been around for longer and is available for distribution of new games. Digital downloads aren't like physical media, if Origin decides it wants to screw you, it easily can. Steam has been around long enough that I can trust them when purchasing digital goods.

Meh. Steam is clearly superior and more mature, but eventually Origin will likely be as good. I would have preferred EA to just stick to using Steam, but they are not going to. So I and everyone else will just have to Deal.

Because rooting for a monopoly is a good thing, right?

Steam's been doing this for quite a bit longer than Origin, there would be major issues if it somehow wasn't better than Origin. That being said, Origin work perfectly for what I use it as--my EA game library and a (much) faster DL service.

That's yet to be seen. EA has put out a few bad games for good franchises(C&C4 and NFS: The Run, and Syndicate come to mind right away) so I'm very pessimistic that they'll do decent this time.

I have never had an issue with Origin. DL speeds are very fast, all my stuff is one spot, and seems to work fine. Am I a huge fan of EA? No. But I am not going to blindly love Steam either. Steam is no better than Origin when it comes to packing DRM into games and so on. They do have an offline mode for single player games which is nice.

But it should be noted SimCity 5 is not an offline game. They have already stated that its pseudo online.

I wish there was a stronger way to register my displeasure with EA's bullshit, in a way they actually listen to, than just not buying their product. With games like Mirror's Edge they have demonstrated that they have potential to produce things I really like. It's a shame they now insist on wrapping their products in such unpalatable packages that if they come out with another lovely game like ME, I will never see it.

That's it, boycotting EA from now on. Enough is enough.

... right after I pre-order Sim City 5 and the next 10 iterations of COD that is.

Well, conversely, the Shift series those were the best two NFS games since Porsche Unleashed (and I guess Most Wanted).

CnC4 may have been a flop, but CnC3 was a legit CnC game, also done under EA.

They don't always fvck up.

I played Mass Effect 3 off line on Origin, just like you can play other games on Steam. I do wish though that there was some way to bypass the checking for downloadable content every time you start up the game, even if you are playing offline. But overall, I have no problem with origin. What I have a problem with is what EA/Bioware has done to the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises.

You know what happens with Origin when your Internet connect hiccups?

Yeah, Steam doesn't even blink when that happens.

I don't want to install a new service either. Especially after seeing how EA handled authentication of DA:O and ME2 with the constant agent that is always running in the background. I only found out about it while I attempted to get the games to actually work after buying them when their authentication server was down for 2 weeks, so I was going through all sorts of help pages trying to get it to work. (They didn't admit that it was down until they fixed it 2 weeks later)

I don't do online games - period.

I dont' care who's the Monitor - Steam, Origin, Ubisoft, etc.
I just don't want to play online and be subjected to the plethora of twits on Internet, I get more than what I care for of that from real life.

This is just another money grab (monthly fees?) and power control (DRM) scenario.

Sorry, I was looking forward to this game, but now it's toast.

.

There nothing wrong with Origin . I like BT3 its a great game . I just recently bought it and its hard to start out when you go online to play . Your starting with NO unlocked weapons other than the bare min. Its hard when others are completely unlocked. I won't cheat and buy the unlock kits. The only thing I don't like about Origin is some of the ass wipe server operators. I had one guy take a days worth of gaming points away from me. Why because my ping was high. What the hell. Scored 25,000 points in one game and he cried to orgin that it was because og my 156 ping at his Britt. server. Yet when they play on USA servers with their 300+ ping thats all right .

I dont get all the hate for Origin. I've had it for a while now and not a single issue.

I always enjoy this type of post. Hey I haven't had any issues with it.. therefor it is perfect!

Without fail every thread complaining about software contains this post forever.

I like that article. It fails to bring one thing to the forefront. If you don't like it, don't buy it. This is the problem, the sheep do buy and this is why all these issues keep arising and don't go away. People buy then complain. It should be the other way around. If "all" these people have internet, then one would assume they "all" know what they are purchasing. I know this is not true, but it's basically what the publishers are saying.
