people are way too quick to crown WVU. they haven't played (let alone beaten) a single ranked team this year. beat Louisville, Pitt, and Rutgers, and then you can make your case for the title game.

I'd like to see Rutgers go undefeated. They whipped Pitt 20-10 the other night.
That would definately put a big wrinkle in the BCS!

I'd love to see WVU match up against Auburn or Florida. Steve Slaton and Pat White would be entirely average against the defensive speed those two team put on the field...we just won't talk abou WVU's defense or lack thereof.

what is auburn going to do, hope it's defense will outscore west virginia's offense? auburn's offense couldn't find the endzone with a map and a sherpa.

Not the "bedroom" kind of whipped 😉
That would be "spanked"

I'm not disagreeing that WVU still needs to put in work, BUT they have beaten all of their unranked teams pretty bad in comparison to other "better teams" like USC. For example, WVU absolutely trounced #47 on this list, Maryland as well as #61 Syracuse whereas #3 USC barely squirted by #37 Ariz St and #41 Washington. So while it is too early to tell, I still think WVU is way stronger than USC as well as any of the other teams in the Big East. My case in point was last game where UConn was putting 9 men in the box to stop the run and still got beat down (albeit UConn was successful on the first couple drives of the game), Maryland and Syracuse were doing the same thing as well. We're still talking about Div 1 teams with decent defenses/coaches who know you will run but can't stop it no matter what.

Play defense?

They play #8 Louisville next week. Should be an interesting game.

To be fair, Auburn's offense is banged up and has been for weeks. This past weekend against Tulane (yes, Tulane...they used to be decent), Auburn was down to 3rd string center(and having to reshuffle the o-line...again), 4th string tailback, and 2nd string fullback. Personally, I'd rather watch a defensive game anyway...you can keep the flash & dash offense...I'll take the overpowering defense.

I'll take the offense. It's too hard to score points on defense.

Offense wins games...defense wins championships.

Not really true in college football. A team with NO defense will of course lose games and championships. But teams with only decent defenses have won championships.

And anyways the original topic was WATCHING games. I'd rather watch an offensive game than defensive - regardless of whether it helps win championships. A 3rd overtime win of 3-0 is a boring game. A 3rd overtime win of 50-49 with multiple lead changes is nail biting and a great game to watch.

I guess I'm a bit of a throwback 🙂

I like the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense and overpowering defense. It's the same reason I hate football teams that play in domes. Football is meant to be played outdoors in the rain, snow, sleet, & mud.

Agree that WVU's defense isn't great but they have definitely improved. Consider this: in their first 4 games they only had 1 sack. Last week vs UConn they had 3, the week before vs Syracuse 5, and the week before that vs Miss St 6. Coach Rod said there would be changes on def after the ECU game and it seems to be working. So if anything their pass rush has gotten better, and even though their secondary drops many balls that should be INTs, they still avg 1.5INT/game which isn't bad.

well i don't really think USC is going to run the table either. they could still lose 3 or 4 games, though i don't think they will lose more than 2 of them.

which is why the last championship game rolled up 79 points and 1100 yards of offense.

LOL! Dream on. I haven't heard anyone actually entertain such a ludicrous idea. They'll play in a weak BCS bowl like Utah did 2 years ago.

If USC can beat Cal/Oregon/Notre Dame and finish undefeated then I think they would definitely deserve to be in the title game vs OSU (assuming they beat Mich) over WVU. However, if USC loses a game I don't see them ahead of WVU in the BCS points but I could be wrong, who knows what those crazy computers will spit out.

Read above, WVU has trounced their unranked opponents whereas USC needed last quarter heroics to beat the mighty (lol) Ariz St. and Washington. And Michigan needed last Q heroics vs Iowa at HOME no less. WVU would have trounced Iowa at Mountaineer Field IMO.

Iowa is a better team than you think. They gave Michigan a damn good game and the Wolverines are lightyears ahead of WVU.

while I agree usc has struggled this season, arizona state, Washington and wsu are all better than eastern washington , east Carolina , and marshall (teams wvu trounced), by a big margin. so trouncing pathetic teams doesn't make your team better

I can't believe I'm agreeing with a USC fan. 😱

WVU hasn't played anyone within same league as Nebraska, which USC beat 28-10. If USC has a better strength of schedule than your team, you have a problem. Your team's schedule is pathetic, period.

They play #8 Louisville next week. Should be an interesting game.

WVU, Louisville, and Rutgers will be the highest ranked teams each play this year.

At least one of them needs a strong non-conference schedule for them to get plugged into the matrix.

As such, no one really knows how good any of those teams are right now...

WVUs offense vs UM defensive line...heh

I'm thinking UM on that one.

Oh and as a note. The teams ranked #1 and #2 right now, both have utterly dominating defenses. WVU.....not so much
