Dr. Dre headsets - Hipster's new toy?

What is up with them? They look hideous and are hilariously expensive. I see all these college kids wearing them and I wonder how could they even afford those expensive POS. They don't even sound good at all.

they're awful headphones. My work gave me a set of the pro ones and I literally laughed after 10 minutes and gave them away. The quality is retardedly bad.

It is a fashion statement, just like people that buy macbooks - if you actually took the time to research the internals you can realize how the technology implemented in the units is out-dated and over priced.

I listened to the "Beats by dre" headsets and was not at all impressed, all it seems like they do is boost the bass volume and make it appear as though that makes top quality acoustic sounds by having deeper bass tones. They're definitely not worth the price tag.

Yeah, it's Apple style marketing: Make a really good product, then mark it up 200% or more over what it should cost to make it "almost but not quite" inaccessible to the general public. Owning the product then makes you appear to be in the upper tier of society.

You can't be a hipster unless you ride a fixed gear bike, wear tight jeans even when it is 100 degrees out, smoke cigarettes and drink a lot of lattes, and sport a fedora hat.

My nephew just got a pair of them; they cost more than my Sennheiser HD595s. And this is a kid who breaks every set of headphones he gets within 3 weeks of getting them. It seems like a poor investment.

In this case it's not even a really good or good product. It's mediocre at best.

2 months ago i went to a Denver police lost and found, unclaimed evidence auction. they had 8 sets of them and 7 sets of Bose QC3's i plugged in the beats into my headphone and was not impressed. i already have two sets of Bose noise canceling headphones that i LOVE so I was not interested.

When the auction came to the headphones the fricken Beats sold between 150-170 bucks!!! WTF you morons go to target and get a brand new set for 20 bucks more. idiots got caught in the name of some famous rapper and way over paid.

the Qc3's sold for about the same. and they are 300 a pair. good deal there.

I thought it was interesting to see how the analysis of the Iphone 5 from anandtech showed that the 'NEW' lightening doc although smaller was actually no better then the previous plug - it still offered transfer speeds equivalent to USB 2.0 yet USB 3.0 has been out for a while now, not to mention how apple will monopolize the idea of the new port by now pushing a requirement for new owners to purchase additional accessories in order to charge their device.

I have several pairs of >$100 ear/headphones, none of which are of the dre beats variety.

Nowadays I just use the cheap $5 ones from monoprice which are amazing for the price.

Probably because retards listen to dubstep and it's all base, so that's all they care about. At least it's in their headphones though so no one else has to hear their shit music.
