Dr. Dre headsets - Hipster's new toy?

Pretentious douchenozzles that like to think of themselves as ahead of the trend; promptly abandoning whatever that happens to be once it becomes mainstream.

I don't think "Beats by Dre" was ever not mainstream.

Yeah, I left that part out. No self respecting hipster would own a pair of these, precisely because they're mainstream.

beats are made by monster cable, why are they overpriced crap you ask? mystery fucking solved.

dr dre with his beats brand and monster split ways earlier this year or last year?

they are just dre beats now, no monster, while monster have launched and are launching new models that have no dre or beats tie in.

$7? Might have to pick a pair up just because.

those monoprices are good for the money, as are several new offerings from jvc like the fx40 and fx101

haven't heard the fx101 myself yet, but the fx40 are one of the best $20 and under options. relatively deep and punchy bass, detailed if not a bit bright trebles. unfortunately the mids are a little recessed in comparison, but still very good in the price range.

Wow, I never realized those were so expensive.

I bought some skull candy's the other day that I like, but I paid 50 bucks for them. A week later they were on Daily Steals for I think $7 during the skull candy sale 🙁
Educate me.

Maybe this will help 😉

Think you miss the point on hipsters. Since they range in earning power there are only two options for hipsters in headphones.

1) Cheap and ironic
2) Expensive, pretentious and largely unknown brand

Now lots of audiophiles would fall into #2 but hipsters are a sum of their parts and so most audiophiles aren't hipsters but some hipsters are audiophiles.

they're still the same price right? probably the same chinese factories too. i don't see how it matters at all unless they improved/fixed the sound quality.

A cheaper alternative for 'Beats' type sound signature is the MDR-XB500. I enjoy my trusty HD580 and Beyers but the bassy headphones are fun too. Beats are simply overpriced for what you get.

It's too bad this thread wasn't made about 2 weeks ago. It was on slickdeals front page due to a monoprice discount at the time @ about $5.50. I bought 3 pairs to save on shipping and gave a pair away.

edit: looks like the discount is still alive so you can get for 5.69 + 2 = 7.69 shipped.

When you add to cart...

We're sorry, the coupon you entered (XPERT912) expired on 9/24/2012 and is no longer valid. Thank you for your understanding. [Coupon details] [Remove coupon]

My IEM's died so I've been looking for another pair, I'll bite the bullet later.

8.40 shipped from AMZ

they're awful headphones. My work gave me a set of the pro ones and I literally laughed after 10 minutes and gave them away. The quality is retardedly bad.

Where do you work that gives you $300 shitty headphones and how rich are you that you just randomly give them away? I agree they are terrible headphones for the price but I just find it extremely difficult to believe any company would randomly give their employees $300 pairs of shitty cans and I also find it very hard to believe you wouldn't at least try to sell it. Even half off would be $150 in your pocket and it would save the buyer $150.
