Michael O’Rourke, chief market strategist at JonesTrading:

“They blew it. The Fed panicked and the market is spooked. The S&P 500 registered all time highs less than a month ago and the Fed has [already] expended all its conventional and unconventional tools. The key takeaway will be that they have truly expended all of their ammunition and this is the action of a central bank that is scared.”

Remember when Trump inherited one of the most successful Fed Chairs in modern history, and then got rid of her because she had a vagina?

This is what I've been saying for weeks. They are going to blow their wad and have nothing left they can do. They are treating this as a financial crisis and it's not. Tax cuts and stimulus spending does nothing to shore up investor confidence in production. We want to know how businesses are going to be able to get through this and continue to produce.

Now with the latest Fed move we have nothing left we can do if the shit really hits the fan.

It would also help if we had an administration and promoter in chief that didn't play this off as a nothingburger the first couple weeks of this starting. If we had set expectations up front to hold on to your butts for the next 3-6 months maybe we wouldn't be in the extended panic and worsening by the day as more bad news trickle in.

We have months of really bad earnings and jobs reports that we are going to have to wait out until thing start to rebound.

The fed can buy stuff. Lots and lots and lots of stuff. Which it should do.

That doesn't negate the need for congress to act like yesterday.

The incompetence and lack of leadership demonstrated by this administration in the handling this crisis cannot be overstated. In all cases, instead of providing leadership, the President fell back on his usual partisan buffoonery and reality show antics. So instead of being prepared, countless Americans still believe this is is a hoax. Instead of being reassured that a competent helmsman was at the wheel, markets and govts are panicking and taking their own drastic actions to protect themselves.

It is appalling.

Literally, what people have been hollaring about for months/years. You cannot pull the recovery levels of the economy when you're in an upswing, or you have nothing to pull on when you fall on your face. I'm appalled the fed went along with Trump's whims to supercharge the economy. We reap what we sow.

When Mitt Romney wants to immediately give every adult in the country a grand you know it's deadly serious.

The left will resist that hard. They can't mentally reconcile the idea of "the rich" getting a payout even if it's in emergency situations and will attempt to make a final stand (prediction mode: ON) of only allowing payments to families making $65k or less. You've already seen the pushback on the idea of a payroll tax holiday since "what about people without jobs?"

The Bush "everybody gets $300" thing was introduced by the Dems.

That was also before Bernie and AOC represented the aspirational expression of the Democratic party. The Dem base already soured on any great recession tax relief measures that didn't specifically exclude the "rich" almost since the moment the first cut was announced. It's not like they'll be more open to it now a decade later IMHO.

Giving the rich yet another tax cut wouldn't do anything to fix the current crisis. It would simply make the rich richer so they could fuck things up even more than they have already done.

Thanks for proving my point from just a few posts ago.

Don't be silly, if Republicans introduced an 'everyone gets $X' just like Bush did they would be fine with it. You might see people argue for their exclusion but if that didn't happen that would not affect their support.

The Democratic base is far more pragmatic than their Republican counterparts.

Huh? Are you running a fever? A direct check so that 99% of the working joes can pay for rent, cover baby sitting costs while schools are closed, or pay for food while being laid off is exactly what the left is pushing for. I don't think any of them are hand wringing over people over a certain income also getting a check.

Anyone who seriously thinks if the Republicans got behind Mitt Romney's proposal to send every American a $1,000 check that Democrats would vote it down because it didn't exclude the rich is living in a fantasy world.

If anything is going to do us in it's the huge wall of delusion many Republicans have built up between themselves and reality.

Glenn is just deeply concerned that the rich might not be treated fairly right after getting a $3 trillion bailout.

what you missed is that glenn, like every other conservative subjected to daily injections of rightwing batshit over the last 4 decades, believes in this mythical boogeyman called "the liberal!" that shares some sort of core horror policy system of beliefs that has never been displayed, advocated for, or even proposed in any public capacity, by anyone, in the real world. They only exist in the internal horrorshow that republicans invent for themselves.

glenn believes these complete fantasies to be true, because he needs to create a thing to argue against. It's how transactional people with simple minds understand the world.
