this.
Nothing can stop him from getting the nomination...or at least being the primary republican vote-getter in a 3-candidate general if that happens.
But he ain't winning POTUS.
You say nothing can stop Trump from getting the nomination?
Unless he earns 1237 for the first vote I doubt Trump gets the nomination.
I think many of us are now realizing how much power the delegates have in all this. I've been doing a little reading on the delegates themselves, not a lot but enough to make me doubt Trump gets the nomination unless he earns 1237.
Some (IDK how many) of Trump's delegates are not loyal to him, not at all. The delegates seem to be party apparatchiks, low level repub establishment worker types. That's how they were chosen, not because they personally support Trump. Trump's wins were a surprise. It seems some number of these delegates were hoping to vote for Jeb or whomever, but now find themselves compelled to vote for Trump, at least on the 1st convention ballot. Some are claiming no way in hell they vote for him in the 2nd round.
Trump, being inexperienced in politics didn't come to this realization until just lately, probably too late to do anything about it.
I suspect 'private polling' has, or is, taking place to gauge the loyalty and preferences of the Trump delegates. I also suspect that some private campaigning is taking place to woo his delegates for the 2nd vote.
So I wouldn't be surprised to see Trump shoved aside at the convention.
