This is selective censorship. They are not trying to make record labels force their artists to stop calling women hos or using nappy, only white radio hosts. As has been pointed out there are plenty of black radio hosts who say just as bad of words and yet you don't see them losing their job and being publically condemned for their actions by these same people.
Yes it should be up to the corporations to allow or disallow what speech they want from their employees, and yes it was not a public forum where he said what he did, however the only reason they are firing the guy is because even bigger racists are trying to make it only right for blacks to use those words. The corporations, who are the ones who have control over freedom of speech in the media, are backing down to this pressure, and thereby limiting freedom of speech. If you don't agree with me, then fine, I can understand that, but the corporations should have just as much of a liability to defend their employees freedom of speech when they hired them for their opinions.

I'm trying to figure out where exactly I said anything about a government agency disallowing anything. I never said that and it was never my point, rather I'm saying that by people allowing their own freedoms to be taken away (by this I mean the corporations allowing someone like Sharpton to say who can and cannot say what and who should be on the air) that they are forfeiting their Constitutional right. People giving up their rights and it being forcibly taken away certainly are different things, but I feel they are equally heinous as the end result is the same.
This is really going far beyond what this particular debate is about, and really is overblowing what happened, and as such I'm saying that isn't the issue here, but rather its people over-reacting and before we know it things are out of hand. Because of people over-reacting to things like this, we have people paranoid that they might say something that can be even construed as defamatory. We have the FCC telling us what is good and bad (seems like everytime something like this happens we get some new FCC assault on the media). Then people act like they've forgotten all about it until it happens again and we get the same reaction and no progress. Either decide that its not okay for anyone under any circumstances or stop judging just certain people and situations. Of course I'm sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't mind as it keeps them in demand/business.
Hmm, I'm not even making sense anymore, and I really don't even know how the discussion got to where it was.
BTW, CNN (Transcript) had Jason Whitlock on for a good bit tonight. Nice to hear a voice of reason. Amy Holmes is hot but a little too conservative for my taste, wonder if she is one of those freaks at night.

Well, this morning, someone I work with mentioned that the Rutgers girls were teaching Oprah some dance on the show. Oprah went on to say that every time this happens, a white guy comes along and always messes it up.

today i heard about how Imus' comments ruined the team's celebration because now they have to do all these interviews and such.
uh, what? A) the comment was not that big of a deal. sure it was stupid to say, but there was noting racist about it. B) couldn't they have just ignored it and gone on with their lives? its not like he kidnapped them...
all of these people just need to stfu and get on with their lives. if i had all this ****** going on every time someone insulted me, i wouldn't have time for anything else.

this event has made more people than ever realize they won a championship. celebrate that girls.
Actually they LOST. Tennessee won.
The Rutgers girls were runner up and that is what prompted Imus to crack the tasteless joke to begin with. It is the main reason that shows it was 100% a joke.
The reaction by the United States Corporations for the Corporations however is not a joke.
