That album is awesome but they really need to remaster that album

I agree, it's co much quieter and crappier than the rest of my stuff. Very noticeable when I have everything on shuffle.

I bought the Blood album by In The Moment couple weeks back. The lead singer Maria is hot. Oh, and I kinda dig their music.

you dont like metal.

you like pop rock.

this is a metal thread.

Your idea of what metal is is nothing but a tiny little sub-genre of metal, which is itself a sub-genre of rock, which is a sub-genre of blues, which is the tiniest sub-genre of jazz. If you want to say that BfMV and FFDP are bad, I will agree with you, but saying they are not metal is stupid. What you probably mean is they are too "commercial" for you.

Bands like BFMV and FFDP are gateway drugs to getting noobs into liking good music. I consider Avenged Sevenfold to also be a gateway into better forms of metal, but they are much better song writers and musicians that BFMV and FFDP.

All hail the metal.

If you like FFDP and BFMV the next step for you should be to get into something like Machine Head. They are amazing, and still can be catchy enough for the mainstream listeners.

Hey, Periphery sounds Meshuggah-ish but with more singing. I love the song 'Erroneous Manipulation' by Meshuggah. Wish they made more songs like that.

Have you heard the rest of Contradictions Collapse? It's not my favorite of theirs, but it is underrated when people ignore it just because it sounds more like AJFA-era Metallica than their later stuff.

I was just listening to Anthrax's Spreading The Disease; still my favourite album by them.

KT

Spreading the Disease is great. I like Worship Music more.

Metal in 2013 is looking a little "bleh" to me so far. The only releases I'm waiting for are from Ghost and Soilwork.

What is and what was considered Metal or any other genre is mostly due to the time of release. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and even Rush were considered heavy metal in the 70's. If Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Eagles were making their famed hits today, it would be considered Country Western.

And now bands like A7X are getting lumped into metal which I find debatable. They most certainly are a talented band, but prog rock or 'heavy' prog rock would be a more suitable term.

Was contemplating starting a metal thread, but found this when searching for a good old necro.

Been listening to Between the Buried and Me and a lot of Opeth lately.

You owe it to yourself to make to 3:00 in this song.

I'm a little late but holy shit do I love BTBAM! Thanks for posting!

Extremophile Elite is my favorite from the new album. That riff that comes in at about 4:50.....:twisted::twisted: Can't wait to see them live again here in New England.

How is A7X prog rock? I know a lot of metalheads would split hairs on whether they're metal or hard rock (I don't really care one way or the other; they certainly have some metal songs at least) but I've never heard anything from them that I'd describe as progressive rock.

I don't know how there can be a metal thread without a link to arguably one of the most kick ass, current, "traditional" metal bands out there:

I've been a metal guy since high school in the late 80's, with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, etc. I'm still partial to that genre of metal, although it's getting tougher to find newer bands that put out music I can stand. Bands like Clutch and BLS are still cool and heavy as hell, although maybe not considered metal by some. Down is great. Lamb of God is tolerable.
I can't get past the ridiculous WWE vocals of most of the death metal that I hear.

Old metal is much better than new metal. I have yet to see anything that is worth listening to more than metallica, megadeth, sepultura, slayer, pantera, Iron maiden, dio, ac/dc, ozzy.

All these core bands shrieking and howling are fucking stupid.

There is more metal in the world than metalcore.

"Worship music" was good, much better than "We've come for all".

I want to like BTBAM, and there is obviously a huge amount of talent in the band, but I can't for the life of me enjoy the blast-beating, anti-melodic riffs.

TesseracT is a band I've been listening to a lot of lately. Good background music at work, and interesting lyrics.

Indukti has a unique style; tribal is the best way I could describe it?

Protest the Hero, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Bullet for my Valentine fans might like The Human Abstract.

What NikolaeVarius said. Examples:

Enforcer
The Lord Weird Slough Feg
Protest the Hero (their earlier albums had some "core" screaming, but their newest is basically straight-up progressive metal with some thrash and power metal mixed in)
Satan's Host
Vektor

(some are from older bands, but are new releases regardless)

Well, rereading your post, certainly not more than the classics, but there's still plenty of old-school-styled metal going around.

Down kinda lost me after their second album. I remember one of devildriver's security guys wanted to fight me when I told him that down's new cd was garbage. Of course I was so drunk at the time I could have told him to go fuck his own mother.

Devildriver is another band I love, and John Boecklin, and Jeff Kendrick are two decent guys. They came out of the bus after a show to drink a beer with me and my idiot friends.

Enjoy. There is tons of other new metal besides hardcore, and lots of stuff without the death metal screaming.

Is it crappier because it's quieter? Because if that's the only reason then I suggest you keep that as a pristine copy of something untouched by the loudness war.
