Do you use profanity?

I find swearing to be crass, unnecessary, and offensive. I do not enjoy listening to it.
When I was a sailor in the Navy, I did not swear like one.
When I do swear, it has more effect and catches the attention of everyone around me. Just like Mosh mentioned earlier.

This past weekend, I was outside pulling weeds in my brother's raspberry bushes. I pulled off my glove to pick a few red raspberries for my little nephew. When I put my glove back on, my hand hurt and something moved in my glove. When the pain did not go away, I pulled the glove off my hand and something flew out of the glove. Most likely a wasp. From the unexpected pain, surprise, shock, and a bit of fear, I muttered a weak, "damn". This caught the attention of everyone around me as they came over to see what was wrong.

Same.

In conversation, no. Profanity is really a crutch for people who can't express their feelings. Now, if I dropped a watermelon on my foot you better cover the kids' ears.

Depends... at work I rarely curse, but I do on occasion. I don't curse in front of my parents... just something I've never been able to do.

Around friends... sure, I curse.

i imagine that if i was russian, i'd have plenty of shit to be angry about, too 😉

Yes, every few words. At home, with friends, at work (when alone and when I had a job). They're very nice words, and have lost their "true" meaning, so why not.

I don't really see a point for me to curse. I can use plenty of other words to express how I might feel. Granted, they're not as strong as dropping an f-bomb, but I don't get pissed very easily. People who curse excessively turn me off. People who curse a little bit, I can deal with. Strangely enough, women cursing is as much of a turn-off for me as women smoking.

It's not that I find it offensive, (do with your life as you will), I would rather hear more (for lack of a gentler term) mature words coming from people. The English language is rich in words, and while I don't know/understand most of them, it's fascinating to hear uncommon words in everyday talk.

Fucking patricians.

why the fuck not?

i dont understand why they call them bad words, if they let everyone use them on tv and let kids use them, then there would be no bad words, no cursing, and therefore no one would be offended if they say them.

of course, i object to using profanities professionally (ex. a boss calling an subordinate "you're a fucking moron") but as normal everyday usage, again, why the fuck not?

I VERY rarely cuss. In 6th grade, Sister Eugenia burned into my head that people that use profanities don't have the vocabulary to express what they want to say properly; that stuck with me all these years.

If I do use foul language, I have to be REALLY angry, so the family knows to watch out 🙂 I've probably used profanity about 5 times in the last year.

but profanities do express what one wants to say perfectly and properly:

I curse like a sailor when I'm alone. Hardly ever around people. Is that weird?

See I throw damns and fucks out all the time so people wouldn't make a big deal of it, but if it hurt I would just take it 10 levels beyond the norm and 'holy shit what the fuck was that you piece of shit I'm gonna rip your fucking wings off, shove them up your ass and if you don't have a fucking ass I'm gonna rip one out where you should have an ass so I can shove the fucking wings up there you cocksucking asshat' and that would have probably gotten people's attention and if it didn't I would just throw a C-bomb on the end.

I'm from New Jersey....'nuff said. I don't trust people that don't curse, I think they are holding all this aggression in and it will boil over one day. Better to let it out with a bunch of 'fucks' and 'bitches' every now and then instead of going postal.

hah, i swear like a sailor and i still have plenty of rage inside 😉

Now imagine your volatility level if you didn't curse and you get my point. 🙂 Try not cursing for a day and see if you don't strangle someone.
