Have you tried to be this kind of person? If so, for how long? Also, were you genuinely being generous or were you in the mind set that you are doing something because you expect something else in return too much? Again, "birds of a feather..."

Also, don't knock it until you give it a fair try. To do so makes your opinion on the matter quite useless.

Lastly, if you are going to quote me then at least include the whole thing so you do not confuse others. It's not like my post was long.

Sorry, I don't believe in tomfoolery. However, I support your right to delude yourself. Hmm, you don't suppose anyone with your mindset ever got cancer, do you? You likely suffer from a gambler's mentality, i.e. remember the good that happens and simply forget the bad, so it all fits into a "pattern" for you.
 
If there's no one waiting on me or no one using their car and their gas money to deliver to me.. then no, there is no tip.

Do you know what a tip is for? A tip is given to an employee for customer service (waiting on a table, taking luggage to a hotel room, etc). Who excatly are you tipping if you pick up the food from a restaurant? The chef? Cashier?

Even I get irritated when cheap people refuse to tip well at a restuarunt when they receive great service; for good service, I'll tip 30%.

But tipping for carry-out is just ridiculous and stupid. The people who you're tipping probably feel the same way.."why is this weird person tipping me"

What the heck are you talking about? All I am saying is that I have tried something. It worked very well as opposed to being selfish. So I continue to do it as it continues to work very well. I offered a little justification as to why I believe it works on top of that. There is no "pattern" here. On top of all that, I have also discovered that someone who leads this kind of lifestyle also tends to be a happier person in general. They enjoy life more as it treats them better.

You say it doesn't work, offer zero justification as to why, and you have not even tried to lead that kind of lifestyle.
 
Ten (minus at least two by accident) people have voted yes, but unless I've missed their posts only ICRS has owned up to tipping for takeout. Wonder who the others are....
 
Do you mean takeout or delivery? I never tip for takeout and don't see any reason why anyone would. I do tip the delivery guy though.

like literal take-out? hell no, what's the point of tipping?

if you mean delivery from a take-out place, always... the local chinese place I order from gives 10% off for online orders, so I just give the 10% back to the driver as a tip.
 
Why would I tip for take out? If I have to go to the place and pick up the food myself, use my own gas, and take up my own time, what service are they providing that warrants a tip?

Sure, why not. If the service was great, then you should take care of the waiter/waitress that made your dining experience so wonderful.

If the service is very bad, and it's the waiter/waitresses fault, then I'll tip 5-10%.
