I tip 1-3 bucks if they're quick and package it well. A person making 2.13 an hour is still taking time to package my food and get it ready.

Oh my, now we're getting into "pay it forward" territory.

Tipping the cashier isn't going to accomplish your goal in any way.

Take out = your own gas and car = no extra work for employee = no tip.

Delivery = tip of course.

Cooking and cleanup staff are not service staff, thus are usually not part of the tip pool.

Does anyone else think ICRS is channeling pcslookout (who still posts here)?

You tip a waiter and waitress for waiting on you and cleaning up afterwards...

wtf would you tip for take out?

No I tip with the hope it goes to the chef, the bus boy, and the waitress. They all worked for the meal so they all deserved a tip. Which is why I still tip for takeout since people are still making a meal for me.

chefs and cooks don't make tips. waitstaff and busboys do; neither of which do anything for takeout orders.

I am sure most resturants I go to divide up the tip between everyone. I see no reason not too.

ok, the entire summer i worked at a restaurant, no one ever tipped the cooks because no one ever tips them. they make a regular wage/salary and do not depend on tips.

LOL in the State of California all people must make atleast $8 an hour, and I know for a fact that most of the decent resturants here pay their waitstaff over $10 an hour. This is before any tip.

no they don't. Wait staff has different wage laws. $10 an hour AND tips? Jeebus....they would end up making more than anyone out of college. Who are these people that make $10 and hour and still get tip?

Yes, because I am generous and I have come to learn that if you lead a life where you do favors regularly for people (including strangers) then more favors will be done for you whether they seem deserved or not. I don't know why life works this way

Because it doesn't?

Have you tried to be this kind of person? If so, for how long? Also, were you genuinely being generous or were you in the mind set that you are doing something because you expect something else in return too much? Again, "birds of a feather..."

Also, don't knock it until you give it a fair try. To do so makes your opinion on the matter quite useless.

Lastly, if you are going to quote me then at least include the whole thing so you do not confuse others. It's not like my post was long.

Results of three polls on this exact subject:
14 Yes to 76 No
15 Yes to 177 No
8 Yes to 46 No - so far (this poll)
I see a trend, and it's not going your way.

No, the State of California law forbids tips from being used to make up for minimum wage. All people must make atleast $8 an hour, and I knew someone who was a waitress who made $10. $8 starting is the LAW in california for waitstaff.

This person worked in San Francisco were minimum wage for waitstaff is over $9 an hour by city/county ordinance.

It really depends on how long I have to wait. If the waiter/hostess sees me, comes over, and goes to get my food IMMEDIATELY, I'll give a small tip because I'm taking a bit of their time, which could be used to help tipping customers. If I have to wait at all? Hell no.

Which is yet another ridiculous law brought to you by the state of CA.
