I use XP on my home pc every single day. It's not like I have other OSes.

I'm having ATI video driver problems making me want to upgrade though. Watching Hulu videos regularly sends the driver into an infinite loop which then shuts off my display while the audio plays on. Of course then I'm forced to power off. I used to get the "courtesy" of a blue screen at least.

No more. My work computer got updated to Win7 last month. I still have XP virtual machine at home but hardly ever use it.

We still have a fair number of XP laptops in the company, laptops are on a 3-4 year replacement cycle so they should be gone soon.

I still use XP for my main machine at home. I bought two copies of Win8 when they were selling it cheap last fall, but I haven't had the motivation to wipe my machine and start fresh. Someday.

Yup, I have it here on my work computer here at my new job. First time to use XP since the release of Windows 7. I freaking hate it.

This place really confuses me. They spend $4k on laptop setups for everyone OUTSIDE of the IT department but anyone on the inside get used pieces of crap.

My local Windows 7 version of Hyena is painfully slow compared to the Windows XP Citrix version we use

At work but we are finally rolling out Windows 7. If we could just kick the Novell garbage to the curb life would be a lot easier.

Wait, this poll has nothing to do with Taylor Swift?

I never used it frequently, though, except at work several years ago, since I was on Win2k already, by the time it was released, at home.

But the way Windows 7 renders the graphics, the borders, the animations, and especially the way fonts are displayed, cause me eye strain, and the larger the monitor the worse it is.
My Computer->Properties->Advanced->Performance settings. Disable everything but shadows (adjust for best performance, then re-enable shadows, because the shadows really are good things).

Also, if you want to adjust text, type in "cleartype" at the start menu, and go from there. Text looks exactly the same in 7 as it did in XP (still inferior to Freetype or Infinality, IMO, but tolerable with good font choices). It is being rendered by the same engine, the same way. Any differences will be due to custom DPI scaling settings (likely not set) and default anti-aliasing settings.

IMO, it's a good idea to get Consolas and Deja Vu, and set your monospace fonts to either Consolas, Lucida Console, or Deja Vu Sans Mono, then set most UI fonts to either Deja Vu Sans or Tahoma. Then, once that's set up, play with the Cleartype setitngs a bit, until they start looking more, "right."

<- almost as finicky about font rendering as a Mac person...almost.

I used Windows 8 for the first time today. I couldn't find the Start menu or turn off the computer. Kinda like how I could never figure out how to change the volume on an iPod.

It Just Works...if it doesn't, good fucking luck 'cause we catered to retard-intuition that will baffle everyone not familiar with it (and without downs).

Cling to life, Windows XP. LIVE, DAMN YOU, LIVE!

I run a Gentoo box with a virtual machine running XP running a VM running Windows 3.11, running through 15 proxies.

My official email is group wise 7, and to manage it we have to keep one xp machine around with Novell client connecting back to the main server.D:

We have the Groupwise infestation as well including the steaming pile of dog crap called Groupwise messenger and are moving to Zenworks Configuration Management 11. We are going to ride the RMS Novell all the way down to the bottom it seems.

I use it at work and still prefer it to Windows 7 (which I have installed on a VM on my Macbook Pro and as a dual-boot OS on my desktop). I haven't tried Windows 8 but that sounds even worse. Given my preference I would always use OSX, and next time I get a new computer at work it will be a Mac.

My favorite way to use XP is in VMware on a Mac with an SSD :awe:

Stupid fast boot & operation, plus Snapshots for instant ghosting. Hard to beat! Plus you can setup Autoprotect for automatic snapshots & Time Machine integration:

Yep, daily at work and will be for several years. They don't replace our notebooks until they are completely dead and cannot be revived.
