If it is busy then I typically will. However, I once had them ask me to pull up when there was nobody waiting behind me in line. That time I did not.

Well that makes sense...he was waiting on something, the people in line had food that was ready...so in reality, he made those people wait longer for no reason. Wow, what a hero, glad he stuck it to that evil McDonald's!

They tell you to move because it keeps the system they have in place working. Who am I? I'm the guy behind Bob leaning on the horn because he's ruining it for the rest of us because he's a selfish prick who society would be better off without.

The Tiger Direct (or was it Fry's?) incident a month or two ago was the first thing I thought of too.

Some people just a sick sort of gratification out of being assholes when they are minimally inconvenienced.

There are plenty of things to get worked up over in life. This isn't one of them. When I'm asked, I do it, and it never takes any longer than it would if I just sat there at the window.

I wouldn't do what he did. Clearly a guy that never worked fast food in his life (Which EVERYONE should be required to do once). If I'm waiting, more than likely I'm getting tastier food than normal.

Another reason to "Bump" cars is to fake your drive through timer. When we were in competition, we would bump every car that was going to wait more than 5 seconds. We would have a runner take food out to those cars waiting. Another tactic you'll see is at double windows where one takes the money. That window will hold cars as the actual timer is usually at the food window.

Yes. I worked at McDonalds when I was younger and I know how much it sucks and what they have to go through. Not being Douchebagus Maximus just makes the day go by quicker. But hey, at least you get something to talk about when someone does something stupid or rude.

That line makes me think of the people who won't let anyone pass cruising in the left lane.

And yes, I do pull up if asked. It's a dick move to complain about something so small. They're just pissed at other shit, and this is something vent at, some teenager working for a pittance. Good job McDouche Bob!

I've never been asked to "pull up" ahead of the window.
Seems like a reasonable request and I would do so.
If OTOH they told me to come inside like some others have indicated, then i'd throw a fit.

Shit happens when you work fast food. Sometimes you only have a minimal amount of fries prepared because the orders have been slow, and then suddenly get hit with ten orders in the drive through. It takes about 4minutes to cook those fries, so rather than make everyone in line wait, why not just pull ahead so the person behind you who didn't order fries can get his food.

The same thing applies to every product, the food isn't magically ready the moment you place your order. Or would you prefer that they keep an excess of food ready so that you get your food fast yet already an hour old.

While sitting in a long line at Zaxby's today for lunch, I noticed two cars that had "pulled-up" a few car lengths past the drive-thru window to receive their "fast" food.

It reminded me of a rant from Bob Dumas of Bob and the Showgram here in Raleigh, NC a few years ago. He told a story about how he went to McDs to get a Big Mac value meal or something of the sort. It was straight off the menu... he didn't order anything special or give special instructions. Just the meal.

He got up to the second window after paying and they told him to "pull-up" and they would bring his food out. He told them:

"No, I've paid for fast food, and I'm going to wait here until you give me my food."
They replied with "You are holding up the line."
To which he replied "No, YOU are holding up the line. I didn't order anything special. Just a damn Big Mac."

The person argued with Bob back and forth and the manager eventually came to the windows (people in cars behind are getting pissed and blowing their horns). Apparently on that particular day, some McDs big wigs were there and they just so happened to be looking at the efficiency of the drive-thru -- hence the visit from the manager.

So the McDs people had to bring the food out to the people that had paid and were waiting in line while Bob was "making his stand."

Long story short, after about 4 minutes of waiting in line (and a line full of angry people), the server basically threw the bag of food at Bob and he drove off.

So my question is, do any of you have gall to do something like that?

Bob sounds like an asshole. Sometimes you have to wait a minute or two. People need to get over themselves.

I'm kind of surprised that a number of people say they just go in to order. I will do that every time if my wife isn't with me. On average, I think it's faster anyway, and the chances of getting the order screwed up is much less because I can watch them package it up.

Of course. 3 of the 44 responses said no and those people are a55holes.

In regards to going in vs not, I will sometimes, but even if the lineup is longer outside it's still generally quicker. Most fast food places put low priority on internal orders, but a slow external one can slow the entire lineup (and pulling up is rarely requested), so it generally behooves to stay outside, though there is nothing in the world nicer than running in and coming out with food while the people in their cars are still waiting.

Actually if you read what others here have said, that worked for McD, its not about the order its about the time they are on. So its not about making sure others get their food but keeping their numbers.

I can only ever remember that happening to me once, and that was when they screwed up my order and had to re-make my sandwich. Other than that, even at Zaxby's (by far the slowest, although also the most worthwhile, of the drive-thru establishments), I've never been asked to pull past the window to wait.

Never heard of "Zaxby's." Must be a local thing.

I've never refused to pull forward while I wait.
A while back I started wondering why they asked me to sometimes. I figured it was because they didn't trust me and wanted me away from their window.
But then I straight out asked once "Why do I have to pull forward?" and the person explained that there is a timer running on each drive thru visitor and if I pull ahead it makes it look like they processed my order extra quickly.

Typical of old Bob Dumass. He is an idiot.

I pull forward gladly.....that means that something you ordered is being made right then and isn't quite ready. Isn't that better than getting something immediately that was made no-telling how long ago?
