I think everyone here needs to take this advice. If you want to debate with people in a civil way, please use some manners (i.e. not calling people fcktards and ignorant morons who shouldn't reproduce). Really, i think some of you haven't had human contact at all, because you just don't talk this way to people in the real world unless you want to be arguing and fighting all the time. On a final thought, lets please put this thread to rest, i would say its fine to use the word because it doesn't have any negative connations desipte its close relation to the word n*gger. Just be careful to whom you are saying to, that's all I'm saying, save yourself some trouble and stop trying to be a dissident and a thorn because there are some people that just dont want to hear that word. Thank god none of you have the guts to say it in front of them though.

Since there are MANY adequate synonyms and it is a word that is rarely used (rather archaic) and that could potentially offend some people, I would not go out of my way to use it. I don't think it should be banned but I would probably suspect anyone of using it is a 400 year old fossil, a classic literary studies major, or is trying to see if they could irritate people. Besides, if I "dumb down" my speech I'm doing those who listen to me a disservice by not sharing with them the fruits of my labor in becoming an educated (and urbane, I might add) person.

The word is part of the English language, appears in literature, is completely acceptable to use, and should be taught to our children as part of a proper and complete education. Yet you and a certain other in this thread have advocated or implied that the word should be "eradicated from the English language" (which would imply Orwellian like re-writes of history) and that those who use or teach this archaic yet innocent word should be (1) fired from their job, (2) face criminal or civil penalties, or (3) be beaten to the point of toothlessness.
