heh, imagine if they had replaced the swastika with double lightning bolts! :D

I was thinking earlier when browsing the corn place images, how differently we would view the eagle today if the Nazis had won.
:hmm:

The band KISS can't use their normal logo in Germany Maybe even all of Europe, not sure though.

So instead of this:

they have to use this:

Actually, being American is being one piece of a whole. Exercising my rights makes me American.

I bet you were one of the idiots after 9/11 who was willing to kill anyone from the middle east because they weren't 'merican and don't speak 'merican.

No, I actually am not much a fan of this country and strongly believe that terrorists had little or nothing to do with 9/11 if you must know.

I do...I mean, it was the symbol for the southern states during the Civil War. And as we all know one of their main goals was to keep slavery from being abolished...so to me (especially in Georgia where its all the red-necks that hang these flags from house/vehicle) the Rebel Flag is basically a modern day way of saying "I dont care for minorities"...might not mean that you hate them...but I not being racist at all have no desire to have any rebel flag nor have I EVER seen a race other than white people hang them up and show them like they're proud of it. I am white as well.

Not necessarily. The yankees were hardly any more superior to the confederates in how they'd view slaves/blacks. Most of the confederates didn't even own slaves, so it was a moot point for them.

What they were really fighting over was a culmination of states rights vs. Federal authority; this battle had been fought in Congress for half a century, its just the South felt it lost its voice in Congress and did not want to be subjected to legislation southerners felt they had no voice in (which incidentally, the Colonies declared independence from Britain about in the first place).

Slavery was just the major pretext for this war. So is the flag or the people who wave it? Not necessarily. I mean, Klansmen wave the confederate flag, and their platform is hinged on racism, but the KKK also burn crosses, which is an Irish/Scottish tradition, does that mean the Irish and Scots are all racists?

No, it doesn't. Analysis: stop thinking if stuff is racist and live your fucking useless life you prawn.

Now we can't be friends...

:'(

one year when I was looking for a new place (still in Chicago), I answered a CL ad for a 3br, with roommate(s). dude had turned one of 2 living spaces into a fucking Kiss shrine! walls decked out in album covers, Kiss action figures (DOLLS, actually), busts, all sorts of ridiculous Kiss-themed shit. The entire freaking living space.

creep city. wish I had taken photos for future use. :sneaky:

So you're the guy that didn't move in with us.

Imagine running into you here after all these years

figured it was you!

but not, actually. Turns out the guy looking for roommate (as was advertised), was actually the guy moving out, and it was sudden; and he hadn't yet told the Kiss freak roommate. a 3rd roommate had just moved out, and now this guy.

I discovered the situation when I showed up to check out the place, and the one guy had to inform the other that he is suddenly moving out while I was there...odd situation all around. Kiss dude seemed unhappy, while the guy looking for a sublet seemed a bit embarrassed trying to convince someone else to move into a space dedicated to Kiss.

So not only are you close-minded, you're a conspiracy nutjob? Nice.

Didnt realize I was closed minded...I actually consider myself to be quite the opposite.

As far as conspiracy goes...I just go by what Ive seen and read...not really a conspiracy person, Ive just seen enough about 9/11 to make my own conclusions...failing to see the truth behind 9/11 would make you the closed minded one wouldnt it? :s

ITT: someone will point out that the civil war was fought over states' rights while ignoring the fact that it was fought over states' rights to allow slavery.

Slavery was already on it's way out. Lincoln was a racist who didn't care about slaves, he only used them as a hot button to convince the northern states to support his war.

Well, it's a symbol of the South. Unfortunately it's also a symbol often used by racists to scare, intimidate, and offend people. Increasingly I've seen black people use it to what I assume is devalue its use as a symbol of racism. You can see that a lot at Mardi Gras down here.

I'm usually one who thinks that people who get offended should just "get over it", but with this one I'm inclined to say that we need a new symbol of the South.

Maybe this?
