Didnt realize I was closed minded...I actually consider myself to be quite the opposite.

As far as conspiracy goes...I just go by what Ive seen and read...not really a conspiracy person, Ive just seen enough about 9/11 to make my own conclusions...failing to see the truth behind 9/11 would make you the closed minded one wouldnt it? :s

Present your case.

rebel flag isn't racist, neither is the nazi flag, but that doesn't mean they don't have obvious connotations.

It seems that your issue has not so much to do with ignorance or open-mindedness, it's that you have difficulties distinguishing factual evidence and how to apply such to a logical, consensual fact-based conclusion from speculation based on erroneous claims. And simply how to distinguish an erroneous claim from legitimate evidence.

I'm guessing you will believe what you want to believe, and such cases, it takes very little to convince you of what you already suspect to "know." Nothing unusual about this, but it's very obvious among those with a weak background in evidence-based approaches, logical argumentation, or well, the scientific method.

These skills seem to escape you

Slavery was already on it's way out. Lincoln was a racist who didn't care about slaves, he only used them as a hot button to convince the northern states to support his war.

Then explain why at the end of the war Johnston tried to negotiate the preservation of slavery as a condition of surrendering the Army of Tennessee. Explain why Jefferson Davis tried to escape to Texas and run a guerrilla war to force the north to allow the southern states to retain slavery.

No one knew it was on the way out at the time. Think of all the mistakes you could avoid if you had the benefit of hindsight in what you were doing now.

Amongst Southerners, I do not believe it to be a symbol of racism. Because of the history we've had with racism, our generation has had to face it in a more direct manner than those in other regions. There are plenty of ways to be racist without bringing that flag into the picture. Racism knows no geographical bounds in this nation. Symbols change with time and most people who do fly the flag down here (or use it in other ways) dont' do so for racist reasons. However, it would still be considered a dick move to do so outside of the South.

So, at first I was wondering what kind of person would consider the rebel flag to be racist...

Then I saw this

No, I actually am not much a fan of this country and strongly believe that terrorists had little or nothing to do with 9/11 if you must know.

Case closed.

I'm surprised that Shiner forgot the most important flag of the South.

No. It's a flag. Flags aren't racist. Everyone knows this.

No, flags cannot be racist. However, all flags are merely symbols of something. It's generally accepted that in the U.S. the confederate battle flag is a symbol of racism and has been a rallying point for racists for the last hundred years.

Strangely enough, the furthest north I've ever seen this flag flown is just outside the city of Aylmer, Quebec (on the north side of the Ottawa River - near Ottawa.) You Ottawa natives probably know the residence I'm speaking of. :) I assume they are using it as a symbol of Quebec's sovereignty.
