Do we really need guns?

This is not a good argument.

And so much more, much more to list them all.

As I said before, if any of you do not want to have a gun, then don't, let you face those bastards as examples above by yourself. I am sure they would listen to you and be reasonable. <snickering>

What's equally ignorant is claiming anti gun folks are saying that nobody needs to have the ability to defend themselves. But again, gun nutters have never been about honest debate.

But the ability to defend oneself is contingent upon having the same tools everyone else does. Since guns are so prevalent in the US, then to maintain parity with a theoretical assailant means you would require one as well. You don't want to bring a knife to a gunfight.

Very few people are gun mutters, and from what I've seen most people who support/enjoy firearms on AT aren't what I'd consider to be "gun nutters". If we have some doomsday preppers...then yeah, I'd count them 😉

I have a number of loaded and chambered guns in the house. They haven't killed anyone since I brought them home. Good guns!

When confronted with an attacker one must be able to meet or exceed the force that's brought to them. Otherwise, chances are it's game over.

There can be no law against self defense.

Do you seriously want me to link some of the thousands of suicides and mistaken shootings that happen?

The right to defend yourself is a natural right. When Russia is attacking your country it is too late to decide you need a firearm. Keep that in mind. You may think it will never happen to you. It is like the Riot in Ferguson, MO. Don't expect the police to protect your store from being burned down. Even the Governor did not care if the town went up in smoke.

The discussion is about the "need" for guns, the right to defend yourself is irrelevant to the discussion as that right doesn't change based on whether or not you have a gun.

How do you propose someone without a gun defends themselves from someone with a gun?

You can ask this woman:

http://wreg.com/2014/03/18/double-shooting-in-whitehaven/

I mean, we all know you'd shit yourself if someone pulled a gun on you and you can't possibly imagine someone defending themselves but that doesn't mean it can't happen. There are also plenty of other weapons people can and do use everyday to defend themselves like mace, knives.

But you know what the number one way people can protect themselves? By avoiding putting themselves in bad situations in the first place, sure that's not always possible but that doesn't make it not smart😉

Ok, let say there are no guns, can people still kill themselves? Yup. Thousands and thousands.

Heck, even in china, where guns are banned, people still killed themselves by jumping off buildings, remember those multiple jumping off incidents at Foxconn factory buildings? Even in Thailand, a woman killed herself by jumping into a pond full of alligators in a zoo. In Japan, one of the safest countries on Earth, a few of the crazies of a cult killed themselves and scores of others in a subway just a few years ago by chemical fume, 9/11 terrorists had no gun but were able to kill several thousands. Shall we ban tall buildings, bridges, zoos, subways, airplanes?

Mistaken shootings such as kids killed themselves were due to irresponsible gun owners did not secure their guns safely or gun owner(s) violated the golden rules of gun ownership (do not aim at places/people that you do not want to shoot/keep finger off trigger at all time until you are ready to shoot safely).

My points? Million and million of responsible gun owners should not pay the penalties for idiots and you can not ban or legislate stupid and crazy.
