You built it, right?

Are you really that dense? "The government owns you!" is NOT what that ad states at all. Let me restate it. Are you part of the social contract that makes our society, nay, our civilization work? Or do you reject any notion of social contract and government? Stop pretending that you are an island.

While the emphasis he makes may be a bit strong, there is some sense that many feel we belong to the government. I see that at times when some reach for the hammer of power that they can wield through DC. Contracts, social or otherwise are invalid when the participants are coerced, but many embrace it as legitimate, that is until the other side takes command. Then it's unfair.

I do not belong to government. It rightly belongs to us and while one may wave off the difference as insignificant, the mindset of those doing so is telling.

Right wing trollers can you please stop so we can keep this thread on topic? I'm talking to you pjabber, show a little maturity.

Nobody's trollin'. All comments are referencing the DNC speeches and events in play.

Not our fault that we be bored.

Wait! They just announced that Obama is moving past the storage room and heading toward the convention floor!

Liberals reject the notion of a social contract.

In a contract both sides have obligations.

Liberals believe that certain groups (women foremost) should be able to do whatever they want and society must bail them out.

Finally, it's the Democrats turn. I hope they expose the Republicans as being the Christian Taliban that wants to transfer all of the wealth from the lower classes to the top 1% that they are.

Considering the now-being-recycled posters started being put in this thread before 10 am, that's a pretty transparent lie.

For someone who advises others to "free their hearts from hatred", your behavior is pretty despicable.

I am not responsible for when others post or what they post.

For someone who advises others to "free their hearts from hatred", your behavior is pretty despicable.

That's a clown comment, bro.

I don't think anyone even moderates this forum any more. It's become a free-for-all.
So it appears.

Michelle Obama is giving quite a good speech right now, effectively connecting with working class issues and ideals. She's definitely building enthusiasm with their base.

Wow, I didn't know cutting the taxes of the lower classes takes money away from them.

I love the play at the heart strings BS in these speeches. Michelle definitely better than Ann, but both a bunch of BS. Blah blah blah...who buys this shit? (other than little splooge sucking partisans)

Yeah, I'm getting pretty close to giving up on it and sticking to just the tech forums. It's gone seriously downhill in the last few weeks, and this "quality" of "discussion" I can find at any of a hundred political ratholes.

Tis a shame.

It sounds to me (based on the full sound byte from Obama) that he was referring to the infrastructure that the government builds that helps support the economy. In this case, he's saying that "the economy" would include businesses.

I guess I can kind of understand how people took it wrong. If you don't use any rational thought on it, it does honestly sound like he's trying to demean you. It might sound like I'm being an ass, but I'm actually rather serious... it's just your typical knee-jerk reaction where they heard what they wanted to hear rather than what was actually said.

It's really not that surprising, and I'm pretty sure the person that mentioned it in this thread doesn't even have his own business. :p

Speaking of "splooge sucking partisans," let's see if you're capable of anything more than gratuitous attacks. Tell us SPECIFICALLY what parts of her speech were BS, and why.

Why did he feel the need to tell all that to Business owners? All the other trades and occupations already knew that but business owners didn't?

Getting past Michelle's presentation style, the substance was of one thing and one thing only:

Can't really, working and was casually listening to it from across the house. Basically it's just like Ann's speech for Romney, a bunch of pull at the heart BS, make sure to get every demographic and talking point in, blah blah blah. Predictable is really the best sumation. I'm just amazed people buy into any of it.

You can't possibly have thought all that was from the heart, exactly what she really feels, means, and without the benefit of a speech writer and re-election, what she really thinks, right? Please tell me you're not that naive?

You see, this is what I'm talking about. I can't disagree with you on this. You at least articulate your point and make a decent case about that view. There is nuance at work here, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the other posters here screaming on how OMGTHEGOVERNMENTSAIDITOWNSUSWEREALLDOOOOOOOOMED! Sensationalism for the loss.

I thought that was a great speech by Michelle Obama.

She's gotten so much shit from conservatives, I haven't seen anything anywhere approaching as much criticism and insult thrown at any other first lady in my lifetime. I thought Laura Bush was great, as was Barbara Bush and going back. I guess Hilary Clinton got plenty of shit, but mostly once she started running for office, which makes it marginally more acceptable.

I don't know. I would need to research why he gave that speech/interview/whatever.

nice speech by Michelle Obama.

She is most proud of being "mom in chief"

I can dig it.
