Hey republican guys and gals. You don't have to convince democrats to vote Romney, your task is convincing your own to vote for Romney.
Democrats are united. They don't need fanfare and balloons. All they need is a voting booth.
Republicans are the folks in need of a little couch session with a professional.
Mitt is your problem, not ours.

Personally I was very impressed by the first night. Lots of excellent speeches and, unlike the RNC, the speeches were positive and not full of bile. Michelle Obama's speech was a homerun from beginning to end-a textbook example of how to do her task perfectly, and Castro did an excellent job as well. It was also refreshing to see a broad range of real Americans in the audience rather than a couple of props for background or tokens on the stage. Stage managed? Without a doubt, but not as blatant and manipulative as the RNC, where the angry old guy yelling at clouds was the only real moment in the whole show.

My tip: Watch in on CSPAN. No commercials, no commentators and they also play the little people speeches-some of which are great, some terrible. And a programming tip to MSNBC-ditch the pundits surrounded by a vocal crowd setup-its annoying as hell and demeaning to your status as a news organization.

It sounds to me (based on the full sound byte from Obama) that he was referring to the infrastructure that the government builds that helps support the economy. In this case, he's saying that "the economy" would include businesses.

I guess I can kind of understand how people took it wrong. If you don't use any rational thought on it, it does honestly sound like he's trying to demean you. It might sound like I'm being an ass, but I'm actually rather serious... it's just your typical knee-jerk reaction where they heard what they wanted to hear rather than what was actually said.

It's really not that surprising, and I'm pretty sure the person that mentioned it in this thread doesn't even have his own business. :p

I understand what Obama meant about infrastructure although what has not been mentioned is the contribution of the individual as well, but that's another matter. I was referring to an ad and addressing a somewhat more subtle point.

What were your expectations of the speech? She is after all the wife of a politcian? What policy prescriptions did you want her to give?

She fully met my expectations. I don't want her to give any. She's the wife of POTUS, I could care less what she says. In fact, I'd prefer she be invisible. The country elected her husband, not her. And Yes, I believe this for every POTUS spouse, not just Michelle.

Btw, if speech making were so easy. I think we would have seen more from it at the RNC. I think she gave a clear and concise vision of who Obama is, what he believes, and where those beliefs orginated. I saw his passion and sense of decency through her. I also think she gave a compelling vision for our country and of shared sacrifice.

Congrats, the design of the speech, and especially the delivery, had the intended affect on you. Count yourself as one of the millions...

Overall I think it was a good counterweight to the RNC and the you built it theme of their convention.

It was a very compelling speech.

It was a good speech. Compelling? Only if you choose to be swayed by political speeches...

Yep, be nice if they thought that the people tuned to see the convention and not them!

Cspan's the way to go.

I actually liked tonights speeches, but MSNBC's coverage is once again unwatchable.

it's like Rachel Maddow wants to put herself in a sling and let every Democrat in the nation have their way with her.

i actually can not stand Rachel Maddow. she gives off this "I am better than you" vibe and her constant smirk and snarky responses when anything republican is mentioned is annoying as fuck. she is the female version of Olbermann.

ok now we are talking about social engineering?

why couldnt it just be a good speech? jeez

Because, in order to be a good speech at a political convention, it has to be engineered to reel in the social groups they are tagetting.

About as funny as someone paraphrasing a hit piece from Breitbart.com as if it were their own original observation.. especially when it's already been posted earlier in the thread. :p

I'd challenge you to back up any of that with actual quotes, but I know that would be a waste of time. This is your usual scripted GOP shilling that would remain unchanged no matter what Obama said. Your opinions are therefore irrelevant, based on nothing but blind partisan fealty. (Perhaps when you get new talking points tomorrow, you can repost a few as if they are your own ideas.)
:D

Exactly as predicted. Last night all JibberJabber could offer was empty trolling. Now, thanks to the puppeteers at Breitbart, he finally knows what he thinks and why he thinks it:
I'm thinking the 'P' in PJabber stands for Pinocchio -- an empty-headed, dishonest puppet. Dance, little puppet, dance. Make yourself useful and offer entertainment since you have no thoughts of your own to contribute.

Wow, Bow...have you been taking writing classes? That was actually a very well crafted insult, I am duly impressed. It made me chuckle. :)

Granted I didn't watch all the speeches but the difference between the RNC and the DNC is that the DNC kept it positive and didn't outright lie about Romney and Ryan. For all the, "I built it" folks, tell me how much you would have built if you lived in a lawless country with practically no infrastructure?

RNC was a disjointed hatefest, plain and simple.

DNC seems to have plan for coherent messaging, and just seems more uplifting (can put a smile on your face as personal stories are retold).

Obviously, original conception of RNC was disrupted by hurricane, but, to me, even without the hurricane compressing 4 days into 3, take home message was just strident hate and anger.

No wonder Romney appears to have gotten a negative convention bounce:
"Although I have not seen Tuesday’s data yet (and can’t for some time because of a speaking engagement), enough is known to allow some advance comments.

Bottom line: not only is there no bounce so far, the data suggest the possibility of a negative bounce.

Update, 12:35pm: yep, there it is. ~10 EV and counting…"

It would have been better if hurricane washed out whole RNC, except for the actual nominating process that made him official Republican presidential candidate...

At least those stupid people won't be stupid enough to plan and execute a convention that will make their candidate poll even worse after it. LOL

If anyone wants to hear the comments of co-founder / former CEO of COSTCO speak, you need to switch to C-Span as everyone else is blathering while he speaks.

PBS is also showing his speech.

Yes, was watching on PBS. Very strong speech, nice to see that some successful people understand that their success is built not only from their own drive and talent, but also upon America's extraordinary infrastructure.

Republicans don't believe in dinosaurs.
They believe the Earth is 6000 years old.
Picture fails.

I think the smartest thing the Dems could do is put Clinton on the road and get him in front of as many people as possible. The man knows how to fire up a crowd, and he (and his speechwriters) are quite effective at presenting complex ideas both simply and convincingly. He's doing a great job right now of "factually" showing that yes, America is better off today.
