Did you realize that Jesus had a brother?

I like how people state if you read the bible you'd have all the answers. HAHAHA you freaking wish. I used to have bible studies classes and they didn't make sense at all. There is a literal translation for every line and then there is the "correct" translation for every line. If you sit down and read the bible tomorrow, 90% of what you walk away with is wrong. Plus, if reading the bible gave you all the answers, religion would be a waste of time. All it does is give you more questions.

Are you unable to understand that Jesus had siblings by reading this passage?

"6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. "

Aren't we all Jesus' brothers and sisters? Aren't we all children of God? Ask enough religious people and you'll get 2 answers to everything.

Oh, so you're just trolling a religious thread. OK.

His name was James.

edit: he was written out of history by the early xian church.

edit 2: actually, he had several brothers and sisters. these were full siblings (not half-siblings, altho he may have had half-siblings as well). I am talking about the children of Mary, i.e., Jesus, James, Joses, Judas, & Simon, plus sisters

Full siblings would mean the same father and mother.

Interesting use of the word trolling. I didn't know it actually was used to refute valid points of views now.

Some Catholics would say that those kids were kids from Josephs previous marriage (widowed). And therefore is not directly related to Jesus.

But it is pretty clear that the Bible treats Jesus' siblings, just as that, his siblings. I didn't think this was unknown to so many people.

"xian" totally doesn't show your bias...

what do you mean? 😕

Do you realize that Joseph was maybe 50 or 60 years older than Mary was? I'm not saying that getting her pregnant wasn't possible, but marriage back then was a lot different than it is nowadays.

Besides, there are places in the Bible where it refers to Jesus using his mother's name. In those days, you identified people with their paternal name. So why would they make this distinction just for Jesus? There are Bible passages that show this, but I can't find them right now and I gotta leave for work. Maybe I can dig them up later. But in short, at least Orthodox Christians believe that Mary was a virgin and that James was a half-brother.

I am talking here about the historical Jesus (as opposed to the fictional Jesus). It matters not to me what orthodox xians believe. I am interested in the life & times of Jesus the man, not Jesus the fictional creation of early xians

what does charles manson, adolf hitler, marshal applewhite, bin laden, anton lavey, the bible and all churches worhiping God have in common?

they all use the same form of brainwashing. heres how to test yourself..... if your closed minded about your beliefs and/or you refute others opinions that dont correspond to your beliefs then according to psychological association your brainwashed. your also 95% more likely to brainwash your childeren with your beliefs

By your own definition then YOU are brainwashed since you appear to be refuting opinions which don't correspond to your beliefs. That is the lamest argument in this entire thread.

Doesn't the Bible refer to James as Jesus' brother more than once, however using a different word in the original text each time? IIRC, one meant brother in blood, the other was more akin to comrade. I could be wrong, but it's a fascinating ambiguity if I'm right.

its not my definition, its in the dictionary but
show me what i refuted, show me where i said i had a belief and what did i argue exactly?

the answer would be intersting considering that i said "according to" and didnt express a personal opinion but rather an observation from psychological sources such as apa.org

why would you even bother to expend the energy to make a post like this? you have nothing much to say. You're not articulate enough to express why you are so ANGRY.

Excluding the attempt at wit by the inclusion of Hitler, Bin Laden, and the others you say that the Bible and all God worshipping churches use brainwashing. Since the Bible is a book, obviously it can't brainwash anyone. That means by implication that church-goers who worship God are brainwashed in your estimation. You are refuting their beliefs because they don't correspond to your beliefs(making YOU brainwashed by your definition), unless you agree with the God worshippers and are saying that you are one of the brainwashed.

I take it from the "sicko brainwashers" comment at the end that you are not a God worshipper. By the definition of brainwashing included in your original post you are brainwashed because you refute the opinions of the church-going God worshippers.
