My SIL took her Honda into Jiffy Lube recently for an oil change.
They told her the car needed a transmission fluid and filter change and a coolant flush and fill. She told them to go ahead and do it.
They had her wait in the car while they did it. When they were done, the car wouldn't start. The manager was screaming at her to get the car out of there because other customers were waiting. She's telling them the car won't start, and asking what did you break and he's telling her they didn't break anything and to get the car out of there now.
They made her call a towtruck and have the car towed out.
The Honda dealer says they have to replace the engine. At this point I don't know how it's all going to shake down. The Honda dealer hasn't finished yet.

So she sat in the car while it was hoisted up?

I change my own oil just because I wouldn't trust them at the oil change places. 99% of the time they probably change it right, but there will always be that one time they dont put the oil pan plug in tight and you'll be sitting on the side of the road with a blown engine. It's a pain in the butt but for the peace of mind it's worth it.

Have you ever been to a Jiffy Lube?
They wouldn't be so cheap if they had to hoist every car up.
Every oil change place I've ever been to has pits underground. Some are just invidiual pits under each car, others are actual rooms down there (I knew a guy who was a manager at a grease monkey, he did an oil change, tranny service, coolant flush, etc all for $50.
I was down there in the room below with him while he was doing it...

Did the Honda dealer say what was wrong with the engine?

Note the dark liquid that comes out on the floor at the end... I guess she saved them the trouble of removing the drain plug.![]()

Even ones where they have a pit under the car they do not allow you to stay in teh car. also if the car would not start i doubt its something they did.
So they make you get out of the car? I've never had to.Originally posted by: waggy

But the fact still remains that you do not know for certain what happened to the car.Originally posted by: boomerang

The car ran when it went in, but wouldn't when they were done and you think it's not something they did?
You're a future darwin award winner, or a Jiffy Lube employee, or both.

I didn't realize waiving your arms frantically was the universal sign to floor the accelerator.
