I've used the Jiffy Lube by my house a few times and have never been ripped off.

I change my own oil just because I wouldn't trust them at the oil change places. 99% of the time they probably change it right, but there will always be that one time they dont put the oil pan plug in tight and you'll be sitting on the side of the road with a blown engine. It's a pain in the butt but for the peace of mind it's worth it.

a friend of mine took his step-mom's pickup to jiffy lube to get an oil change... they forgot to put the oil plug back in, or it was loose enough that it fell out. He had to call his dad from the side of the highway and tell him the truck had broke down.
Don't know all the details, but the jiffy lube ended up paying for a new engine.

They made her call a towtruck and have the car towed out.

The Honda dealer says they have to replace the engine. At this point I don't know how it's all going to shake down. The Honda dealer hasn't finished yet.

So she sat in the car while it was hoisted up?

I read this on Consumerist and thought you copied the article!

I went to a Tire Depot Plus to have my oil changed. I was going on a trip the next day and didn't have time to take it anywhere else (this place is 500 feet from my house.) They do the change and tell me that I need to have my brake fluid replaced, power steering fluid changed, coolant flushed, and an oil flush. The only thing they said was okay was my transmission fluid. Ironically, the transmission fluid was the only thing I *did* need changed. I read one review of the place online, and it basically said that it's a great place because they don't try to sell anything extra. Riiiight.

Have you ever been to a Jiffy Lube?
They wouldn't be so cheap if they had to hoist every car up.
Every oil change place I've ever been to has pits underground. Some are just invidiual pits under each car, others are actual rooms down there (I knew a guy who was a manager at a grease monkey, he did an oil change, tranny service, coolant flush, etc all for $50.
I was down there in the room below with him while he was doing it...

You people are paranoid.

You take a chain that has thousands of locations nationwide service tens of thousands of cars a day for decades - of course there are going to be incidents.

There are incidents at dealerships, there are incidents at local mechanics, there are incidents when doing it yourself.

The name Jiffy Lube implies you will get screwed so fast you won't even feel it. Take it to another shop.

Note the dark liquid that comes out on the floor at the end... I guess she saved them the trouble of removing the drain plug. :D

I paid $50 once to have my oil changed, and felt really dumb for it. Now, $10 and 1/2 of my time is all I'll do.

I haven't heard, ....... yet. It's kind of a sore point with her. For all I know, the Honda dealer is taking her for a ride too. LOL

seems fishy.

Even ones where they have a pit under the car they do not allow you to stay in teh car. also if the car would not start i doubt its something they did.

I dunno, I think you underestimate how bad a jiffy lube can be.

So they make you get out of the car? I've never had to.

The car ran when it went in, but wouldn't when they were done and you think it's not something they did?

You're a future darwin award winner, or a Jiffy Lube employee, or both.

But the fact still remains that you do not know for certain what happened to the car.

Once 3 years ago after having the oil changed at a quick lube place, the steering was very difficult, a lot of resistance turning the wheel. So any dope would say the quick lube place screwed up the vehicle. Well, no, one of the pieces in the steering column was rusting away and it was just coincidence it showed itself right after an oil change.

Year and a half later with the same vehicle I was having problems starting it. Some days it would start up, some days it wouldn't ended up being the ignition coil going bad and once replaced haven't had any problems since.

The vehicle I had before this one occasionally had problems starting too, had the starter just stop working one random day. After replacement, for the first month had some times where sometimes it wouldn't start up, but they kind of worked themselves out and didn't have any issues for a long time. As the vehicle got older, if I took it on long drives (3+ hours), then shut it off for a short time (like a refill at a gas station), often took me several attempts to get it started again.

Moral of the story is, a lot of things can go wrong with a vehicle. And until you know for sure what happened, blaming the oil change place is irrational.

nope NEVER was able to stay in the car. always have to get out of it.

NOPE i don't think its something they did. you have ZERO proof they did something wrong. Sometimes cars just die.

not to mention you have yet to say what was wrong with the car.

OK, let's bury the hatchet and change the mood.

Piece of sh!t car

The cars not done yet. All I know is the Honda dealer says the engine must be replaced. My SIL is not going to know what was wrong, she's a girl for chrisake. Yes, I don't know for certain they broke it (but I'm still betting they did). She did stay in the car, honest.

Peace to all.
