Just hopped on for a little bit today, and I found an off-road pickup truck. It was parked really close to a broken down truck on the driver's side, but I was able to get in the passenger side. When I moved to the driver's seat, it said it was fully repaired but had no gas, so I went to get some but when I got out it put me between the 2 trucks and I ended up breaking bones and bleeding out to <1000 blood.

The first time I find a vehicle and it glitches and kills me.

Oh man, did you lose that Alice pack with all the goodies I left you guys? Losing the pack, matches and knife gave me nightmares last night.

No, I joined one of Rinaun's servers, so I started with a new character.

After playing yesterday I got a bit torn up dealing with zombies but apparently a lot of the weapons have been nerfed with the latest arma ii patch. In particular my 1911 now no longer one shots, but instead requires 3 shots, but many other weapons were nerfed as well.

I actually don't think I have a problem with this, a lot of people seem angry about it but its essentially a buff to zombies which once you've figured out how to deal with them are pretty easy to dispatch. I ran out of 1911 ammo and took more hits than I usually do since I didn't know about the change (I was trying to conserve ammo single shotting them as they approached).

I would love to play some Day Z but Arma 2 does not run well on my laptop which is weird because I ran Skyrim and Max Payne 3 fine.

Good frame rates seem to be very dependant on network status.

Some days it runs great for me. Other days, like last night, it is a choppy mess. It certainly isn't due to the hardware I'm running.

I even keep all of the settings turned down so I can see through grass & bushes easier.

I have not played online yet, I downloaded the Arma 2 free stuff and tried out single player and it just ran very sluggish. I might need to toy around with the settings.

Arma 2 is far more resource-intensive than both those games.

While the poster above me is correct that bad framerates can come from a bad server, this doesn't seem to be the case here.

You're getting poor performance running Arma 2 on a laptop because... well, you're running Arma 2 on a laptop. :)

I usually get great framerates on my 2500K + 6870 machine, but occasionally I connect to a shitty server and it'll just run like crap. You can tell its bad right away because even the location name scroll in on the corner when you first join chugs.

Well, just had something messed up happen. Was playing and all of a sudden was transported to a tented area with a bunch of other people and someone killed us all like shooting fish in a barrel. Don't know if it was the server admins who did it or what....but obviously never playing on that server again.

After reading through this thread and seeing a few other glowing recommendations, I bit the bullet and bought ARMA II and installed the game. So far I've been having fun, but I've also been thoroughly frustrated a few times.

The most frustrating time was when I was had quite a good haul, had full health, and was trekking up to the airfield. Right around the time I got there, I guess the game went into sunset or something, but every time I looked west, I got terrible glitching on the graphics. Flushing or changing settings didn't fix it -- I have a 6870 with the latest drivers, so I'm not sure what the issue is there. Next thing I know, I'm being attacked by 3 Zs. I dispatch them without drawing more attention to myself, but I have a broken leg. No big deal, I have a bunch of morphine in my backpack. I open up my backpack, and there are 5 tents...which is odd because I had only come across one tent in my travels to that point and definitely didn't pick up 5. No morphine, so now I'm near the airfield with a broken leg and no way to mend it. Got about 500m before I got spotted by a Z who brought about 15 friends with him.

My next frustration is with Z aggro. At times I'll be crawling right next to a Z and he won't aggro -- other times I will be crouch walking with no Zs in sight and all of a sudden a Z will come running around a corner about 100m (already aggroed without LOS, since he's running). Sometimes my character will stand up on his own when crossing a threshold, which often results in aggro as well. The ear and eye icons never seem to correspond to what I'm doing (e.g. sometimes crawling in the middle of the street is no eyes and no ears, sometimes it's two each), and the levels don't seem to correspond much to whether a Z aggroes or not.

The other big frustration is starting with no weapons. Z concentration and aggro issues dictates that I need to crawl from about 300m away from a lootable location, which takes forever (and often I still end up aggroing), and I've only found guns in two lives so far, so I can't run into a location and trust a weapon will be there. Couldn't we start with a crowbar? It's a fairly useless weapon but at least gives me the option of running into a building and beating a random Z that has aggroed...

Another frustration is that the advertised GMT doesn't seem to correspond to the time the server actually has. I was trying to play during the day yesterday and tried about 10 GMT-4 to GMT-8 servers before I found one that was actually daytime -- similarly, at night I was joining GMT+8 ones and they were also night (should have been around 10AM). Are people advertising their servers incorrectly, or does the time drift?

I also think the game world is way to big to have only 40 or 50 maximum. I've been playing on mostly full servers (that's the best way to figure out if a server is currently in daytime, as they usually are the most populated), put in at least 12 hours of playtime, and spent most of my time in and around the major cities, and I have only seen 3 alive players, and they were all freshly spawned (or at least appeared that way in the half a second I saw them before they ran off). I've come across a number of corpses as well, but with one exception, those have all been empty except for starting equipment as well.

Lastly, I have yet to come across a single vehicle. The map I am using indicates vehicle spawns -- I have looked at probably 50 of those spawns on different servers and still haven't seen one.

DayZ is like a bad relationship. A lot of BS happens on a pretty regular basis but you have those occasional good days that cloud your perspective.

I even tried to break up but came back two months later.

I ran into it this weekend for the first time. The airfields, and I think the center of Cherno were like this.

Anyone on now and want to team up? I'm in Cherno now with pretty basic gear....still pissed that a script kiddie used a cheat to transport a whole server to NW airfield and killed everyone...had tons of food, water, and lee enfield ammo.

Hmmm, happened again on different server. Game is getting flooded with these script kiddies now.....apparently there is a script out there that will transport every player on the server to NW airfield in a walled off area and you have to fight to the death. Says "Welcome to the Thunderdome."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvOGzeRahsQ
If this continues it'll ruin DayZ....BattleEye apparently is a worthless piece of crap anti-cheat program. That Thunderdome stuff happened to me twice today. I found another youtube video demonstrating more cheating....turning people into dogs, killing everyone instantly, spawning your own body guards....sigh.

And add 2 more times to the hack tally in one day....disconnected from a thunderdome exploited server to one that was just exploited as well.

It seems that there are people doing the thunderdome hack in just about every server since it happened again tonight to me and andrew. I just disconnected right away, and when I joined a different server I spawned back in the thunderdome, except this time there were no players, and the ammo boxes were still loaded with every item in the game. I loaded up and changed servers so I'm now completely geared out.

Me and our members discussed white listing our private HIVE system, and decided requiring signups on most likely another forum/user system to keep hackers under control will start around patch 1.7.2.5. Arma 2 is just a terrible terrible engine. To make it work, we need to control who joins and who plays on our 8 40 man servers. I wrote scripts against my own server in 10 minutes and its just simply a joke how bad the antihack works. We haven't been thunderdomed yet but I have a feeling it will just be a matter of time before it happens.

Five times today....on five different servers. Died either from that thunderdome crap or the whole server just instant-dies. And that's just blatant cheating...youtube videos demonstrate that people can teleport anywhere they want on the map, create all the best gear, show all player locations on the map....DayZ is no longer playable when every large hive server gets griefed just about every hour. BattleEye is absolutely useless...the cheats explicity load a bypass BattleEye thing before starting up the cheat program. Bugs are understandable....I can live with those. What many people won't tolerate is losing their crap all the time because of script kiddies. At this point I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone...especially since the DayZ dev admitted he can't really do anything about it since Bohemia has to do it...and their staff is probably devoted to ARMAIII.

I think I am going to start playing this again, I can't seem to get into any servers though. Is it recommended to run the Beta build, or just stick with the official releases?

Download SixLauncher.

http://www.dayzmod.com/?SixUpdater

It will verify & update any files that you need. I haven't had a problem joining a single server since I started using it.

There is a new launcher called DayZ Commander but I haven't tried it.

If you use Dayz Commander (which works just as well as six launcher) you can launch the game through steam and use the overlay.

DayZ Commander seems better. You can filter by time in the game, so you don't have to try ten different servers trying to find a daylight one.

Not sure if it was a hacker but i was one hit through a wall by a player yesterday, is that possible?

Don't know could of been lag/bug....but I'd definitely avoid the servers with lots of people (40+). The script kiddies seem to leave the lower pop servers alone....but then you never see people.

Yeah I just switched from Six Launcher to DayZ Commander and its infinitely better. I've been doing some solo runs to Stary and the Airfield, been lucky so far.

Anyone who is looking to squad up sometime feel free to add me on Steam.

Thanks, I ended up using this program, it works great, on another note it's been over a month since I last played, but all of my old characters stuff was still in the inventory.
