Day Z alpha: How the zombie apocalypse should be

Oh. I've got a decent setup on Rinauns server, which is non-hive (or private hive I guess), so I'd have to start fresh if I joined a regular server. Plus, regular servers seem really slow to me.

What is a hive server? I see lots of mention of them but can't find an explanation via Google.

had some amazing luck looting with Alienwho tonight. I got a water bottle, watch, matches, hunting knife, coyote backpack, makarov, m107 (with an FN FAL from last night), map, and probably more I'm forgetting, all within an hour tonight.

OK, tried this out for the first time earlier this night...a friend and I joined the same server and tried to find each other but we just couldn't. He also got chased by 9 zombies pretty quickly and was just able to run for a long time until they gave up?

Is there an easy way for us to find each other?

No easy way, unfortunately. Your best bet is to pay close attention when you first log into the game on the bottom right hand corner it will show your location briefly. It's the second line (first line will say chernarus). then find that city on this map http://dayzdb.com/map and go from there.

Geez. Spawned by Elektro so figured what the hell, I'll head into the city. Some guy snipes me down to 6K. Get to the fire house and its all barbed wired, but I got an M14 through the window. Some clown is shooting at me when I try to leave, so I run and it attracts zombies. Go to the office/school, and its barb wired. Head to the store and get an alice pack, markarov, map, some meat, and a soda. Tons of zombies in town and I end up getting chased. Lose them running up the hill outside of town. I stop to drink my hard earned pepsi, as I have been in the red for awhile. Right when I hit my inventory key I see a tent and some guy looking at me. It turns out its someones camp site. He opens fire on me, I open up on him, and we kill each other. wtf!!! One time I get decent gear and I die before I can even get one drink. *sigh* I guess its better than starving to death in the woods.

lol thats definitely my DayZ theme song. Although, the next server I hop on, its right outside of Cherno. I find an axe right away, so I head into the city. I hear these guys talking in the cafe. So I'm holding back, waiting for them to leave so I can get a basic gun or something, and they kill this guy and start laughing. So I'm like bleep these murdering scumbags, and rush in there. They were so busy looking at the dead guys stuff that they didnt notice me chopping their heads off. So now I got M4 with ACOG, big ass back pack, G17, 5 clips for each, gps, map, matches...the works. I knew they'd come for my ass, and I got so nervous I crept out of town, got into the woods, and logged off! I win, so I think I am done playing. I would rather let my character starve to death by not playing than give up my spoils. :biggrin:

Nice run dude! I don't have many experiences like that because I'm so decked out that I won't go into those cities. I rarely see other players, and when I do see them I keep my distance. That's why my character has been alive for over two weeks. When I die though I plan on doing exactly what you did to regear myself.

My current game plan is to find some freakin' ammo for my SVD I found and then snipe the snipers near those cities and let the noobs in those cities get the cool gear they leave behind. I seriously have had this gun for a week and have not found even one ammo clip for it though.

I was hesitant to do it, but I have to admit its so much easier than running around the map with no weapons looking for any crumb of food. I probably could just have picked up enough gear off of dead bodies. I left two bodies full of gear at the crime scene.

Little of last night's adventures -

I was with two others outside of the inland factory... we had setup a tent and a little camp hoping to find some vehicles to repair. There were none nearby so we figured we would head to Berzino and get some loot - hospital, two grocery stores, and military goods were all things we could benefit from.

We head that way and just as we're reaching the woods overlooking the city we hear a few shots ring out.... bad omen. Anyways we scope things out and hear more shots then see a player in full sprint with about 15 Zs in close follow.... he runs into a small around by the hospital that is closed off by a fence... a few Zs hit him and he is down - he doesn't log out though... just dies like a man.

Hospital, grocery, and apartment looting goes just fine, then its off to the four military loot tents that are in wide open for snipers. The plan is the two others will go in and loot, I'll keep watch since I really didn't want to have to get in a situation where I would be shooting my Enfield. On the way out the guys leave on the opposite side of me so I said I'll loop around and meet up with you by the apple orchard that is there by the coast..... during this time my other two friends are spotted by two enemies in the deer stand and a gun fight breaks out.

One buddy is hit right away and had a broken leg but crawls to safety, the other is able to get to cover... There is not a stand off 2v2 with the enemy players not knowing I am there.

I am able to sneak around to behind their tree-stand ... a good view point on both guys. Since we just looted I had a smoke grenade (never carry these normally) so I whip it in by the tree stand to spook them even more... it happens to land right under the stand so they're freaking out and one tries to crawl down the ladder - easy shot for me ..... my first murder of the life (120 zombie kills at this point). The second guy stays put for a while and keeps firing down at my buddies... eventually he gets in a crouched position where his head is perfectly visible - one shot kills him +1 bandit kills.

We end up patching up by one friend and get him morphine, the other goes and loots the coastal buildings but he falls from a 2nd story catwalk and is broken and being eating by zombies.... so we decide we'll have him respawn and run up while we watch his body/gear.

Not long into waiting come two guys heading straight for the tree-stand from out of the woods .... it is the two guys we just killed about 10 minutes before (they must have spawned in Solinchy and made a B-line for Berzino).... we had looted their bodies and what we couldn't carry hid.... so when they both climbed up (like idiots) we run up under them with guys my buddy asked,
"Hey, come back for more?" .... the two guys start begging for us to let them down and help.... we mentioned they tried to kill us earlier and should be punished. We screw with them for a while and eventually give them some extra supplies we had to help:
compass, matches, hatchet, knife (things to get food) and some soda.... well like 10 seconds after we do the deal the one guy whips out the hatchet and looks right at me (like 20 feet away still) and I said he better turn around or put it away....

He took a step forward and said "What are you going to do if I don't?" ...... at this point I can only picture the most D-bag frat guy picking a fight at a bar.... I said I would shoot if he came any closer.... sure enough he did, I shot his leg (which broke).... we bandaged him up so he wouldn't die but still couldn't walk...... then we told his buddy that if he would kill his friend with an Axe we would give him a pistol and supplies and get him out of the city safely.... He refused so we just left the two of them there (taking our supplies back).

We tried but the one guy wouldn't cooperate so oh well.

i don't think it's supposed to but i've logged in and my food and water indicators were flashing red even though i logged out when they were full green

I want to play again, but I get too stressed out running around by myself with my good gear. I guess I just need to relax and accept dying as part of the game.

I ran into a good group of guys using Skype and we have a military truck if anyone wants to try to link up tonight.

Ran into them when I didn't have a weapon and they proceeded to show me where I could find a weapon, gave me a pepsi, and let me ride their truck. I'd be so paranoid if I had a vehicle...so easy just to leave the vehicle and cap everyone in it for everyones loot, lol.

Do you guys play on US time zone servers or on GMT/UTC+ servers? I wouldn't mind joining up, but I don't like playing at night. Night time is pitch black on my setup, and I can't stand it.

I basically just search for a good GMT server, with a decent ping. I hate playing at night too, although it seems much easier since you can basically just run through towns without being caught.

I figure we probably lost the truck though. The server wasn't on earlier today, and I think when the server resets all vehicles are returned to their spawn point unless they were saved somewhere else manually.

Which brings up another issue with this game, vehicle hoarding. Apparently you can "save" as many vehicles as you want and hide them in the middle of nowhere forever. That's probably why you can never find helicopters, because they are parked somewhere (probably off map) where you'll never find them.

Servers that aren't part of the main server system. I run 4 servers connected to their own database. This allows people to play on my server and have a second character, away from the main servers. We just updated to 1.7.2.4 as well.


To join these servers, just search for "rinaun" in filter. Remember that any items you find on this character and the character itself are only on my servers. You still keep your MAIN character on the official servers. This is helpful when you want to play with more than one set of players and not worry about losing gear, etc. We also administer our servers carefully and have the ability to remove someone from our HIVE system entirely if they hack/exploit.

Ugh, that sucks. We had the truck and the van although I think Childs ran into a tree with it when he was having the graphics problem. I did do the save truck thing before I logged off...guess it didn't work.

Just hopped on for a little bit today, and I found an off-road pickup truck. It was parked really close to a broken down truck on the driver's side, but I was able to get in the passenger side. When I moved to the driver's seat, it said it was fully repaired but had no gas, so I went to get some but when I got out it put me between the 2 trucks and I ended up breaking bones and bleeding out to <1000 blood.

The first time I find a vehicle and it glitches and kills me.
