RMB click on the hatchet and choose Remove from Toolbelt.

Thanks. Is that going to move it to my primary or secondary weapon slot? Am I at risk of losing an equipped weapon if I do this without moving them first? Game is fun but buggy as all hell.

Yeah, because THAT makes a lot of sense! I ran into the same problem on my first day. GOt fed up with it, alt-tabbed, and googled it :)

(yes, I know, its arma's shitty interface, not dayz).

hehe, true. Just like RMB clicking on Matches to make Fireplace makes more sense than RMB clicking on the Wood Pile. Perfectly logical. Then starting the Fire doesn't involve RMB clicking at all, this confused me so much I ended up starting a thread about it.

I pretty much do the same thing. So far the only low ping daylight servers I have been able to get on usually have 40 or so players. I think it might be related to the scarcity of items, but its not like I run into other humans, or their dead bodies. I found a loot map online, and 90% of places that should have loot dont have anything. Not even empty cans! I went from Kamenka to Bor to the outskirts of Pavlovo, hitting all the deer stands, and no weapons, except an axe in Bor. I got 3 cans of food, 2 cans of soda, and I think I got most of those off the bodies of zombies. Thats a lot of traveling for very little gain.

The problem with heading into the cities like Cherno and and Elektro is that you dont have a weapon. The last and only time I tried to head into a major city after a respawn, I came across another player, and he cornered me in a building with his axe. I had no choice but to eat it, as I didnt know he was hostile until it was too late. I went from Komarovo to the outskirts of Cherno, not finding a single item, much less anything to defend myself. If respawning was faster I might not mind it as much, but it can take 5-10 min, if you can reconnect at all.

You should at least be able to pick up a 2x4 or a pipe or broken bottle or something! :p Or throw a punch. There really should be a basic way to defend yourself.

Thats strange. Maybe its just because there arent as many people on when I play or in the server I'm in in general, but I've had much more luck finding things. Not always useful things, but at least they're things like road flares, chem lights, car parts, and shotgun ammo.

My first few guns I found in the barns in the small towns outside cherno, so if you spawn near cherno, you might want to check there. The barns I'm talking about are symmetrical, with 3 levels on each side and two sets of stairs. I've never found a barn like that that didn't at least have an ax.

As for running into cherno without a weapon, maybe I've just been lucky. Once I spawned near cherno and thought, eh, f*k it, I'm going to see what all of this is about while I have nothing. Didn't run into any other players and found a ton of loot. So....you might just get lucky.

Goes to Primary and yes you will lose the Weapon in that Slot. However, you can save that Weapon by first moving it into your Backpack...but to do that reliably you need to make sure you have 10 available slots or else the Weapon will simply disappear. I'm not sure if that is even enough though.

The only way I have found to be reliable is to open a Loot Pile, drop the Weapon to the pile, then open your Backpack and put the Weapon into it from the Loot Pile...being sure not to close the Inventory at any time.

Thanks. This is the kind of thing that kills the experience. Otherwise the mod has a great vibe to it. Can suck up an hour in the blink of an eye.

Does it spawn new players close to others? The very first time I spawned I just stood there for a while changing controls, settings, etc and a random player ran right by me about 10 feet away. I thought the map was supposed to be huge, how can 1 player out of 15 be so close? I didn't say anything in the chat at the time because I didn't know how, but thinking back it's probably a good thing since he would have likely just shot me.

I'm down. I can play most evenings. I've got a buddy I play with but we'd like to expand the gang.

I'd be down to play as well. I don't know anyone else who has the game.

I'm free to play most evenings as well.

I think people generally spawn on the same spots. Its the only time I see other players before I head into the woods, and they always have no items as well. People who have good stuff spawn wherever it is they logged off at.

Players always spawn on the coast. The coast covers the south and east sides of the map. The good loot is really towards the north west. You get the idea but yea you tend to spawn near the same locations every time.

Well tonight was quite a bit more successful. I found a rifle (Lee Enfield), a hatchet, water bottle, and lots of pain killers and bandages.

I have to say that the hatchet has kind of ruined the game for me. I was sneaking around, trying to avoid zombies, really getting immersed in the tense survival, then I killed my first zombie with the hatchet. Hmm, that was a little easy. Then I killed the next. That was REALLY easy. Then I killed about 20 more just running around through a town going Rambo. I never got hit once. Hell, about half way through, the zombies just stopped chasing me, and I could just run right up to them.

Of course, once I had finished killing all the zombies in town and started to look through the loot I got disconnected from the host and wasn't able to search half of it.

sorry man, started playing and completely forgot I posted looking for people.

hah i was playing earlier. Spawned at that remote camp I logged out from last night. Wandered around for like 15 minutes before I found a town. Ran to the first house and noticed there were zombies everywhere.

They started chasing me and i was able to kill a few with my pistol. Was down to my last bit of ammo so I hightailed it out of there. There was like 4 or 5 zombies after me but then I noticed 2 other human players run past me with no gear and then there was a whole trail of zombies chasing after us.

We kept running and went up a big hill so only two zombies were chasing me. I dropped them with my pistol and the 2 other guys decided to follow me because I had a gun. At this point I had only bullets left.

We kept walking and eventually we hit another town. Immediately we're surrounded by zombies again. I see this dude in a black shirt and pants run straight for me. It's another human player! So now it's 4 of us getting chased by zombies. Somehow we split up and like 3 of us end up in an abandoned warehouse with ladders.

I climb up a couple of the ladders but the zombies can climb ladders! WTF. It's a dead end at the top and I'm frantically trying to figure out how to use my bandages. I finally do and then I somehow kill one zombie with my last 2 bullets but there's another one climbing up the ladder.

I somehow climb down the ladder with a zombie eating me up and my screen is flashing black and white. I look in my sack and I have instant use adrenaline?. So I use that and the next thing I know I'm dead. Either I overdosed or a zombie got me o_O.

LOL so fun :p.

I logged in last night for the first time in 2 months or so.

What the hell happened??

It was brutally unforgiving the last time I played. Last night, I was running through towns and cities and never had more than one zombie chasing me. Shoot a zombie on a city street with a shotgun and no more showed up! Every zombie I killed was carrying ammo or food.

It was on one of the same Chicago servers that I used to use.

Is this how it is now?

A few more stories from last night -

I joined on the top of Pik Kozlovo (where I had logged out last after being killed and spawning in Cherno). I had very basic gear besides a M1014 and some rounds. My friend had just spawned in Cherno and I planned on meeting him and helping him get geared up since he had nothing. I ran down the mountain almost going straight west (the steep part) and as I reached the bottom figured I would run the treeline until I got near Cherno.... well no more than 20 seconds after reaching the bottom I see two guys running the tree line East (towards me) and both looked like they were well stocked, so I followed.
I tailed these guys staying about 200m behind, keeping them just in sight. They turned south by the power lines and headed up the mountain I had just come from (me close behind). Luckily it was raining so my sound was muffled, I lost sight of them as they reached the top so started sneaking and then I hear "BAM" --- "XXXX has been killed" on the screen... all I could think is one of them killed the other, I keep creeping. Soon after I hear BAM and another person is dead... now I assume they're sniping people below. I finally creep close enough to see one of them - he is looking over the edge of the mountain with a sniper rifle (m24) shooting down at people. His buddy is about 10m to his right doing the same thing.
Now I'm in a bit of a situation.... I hate murdering people but these guys also seem like dicks just shooting newly spawned coast rats. I sneak around to some trees/rocks behind them and try to figure out what to do.... I'm confident with the jump and my shotgun I can take their sniper rifles no problem and this would be great loot for my friend and I but again, I hate to just murder people.... but I know as soon as I say something they'll Alt+F4 and be gone.... figured I would try and be civil though and say something, "Hey bozos at Pik sniping, do not stand up, do not turn around .... drop the rifles and go west down the mountain by the power lines where you came from." Hoping since I knew their path, and details they would listen.... nope. One guy instantly tries to get up and I blast him and get on chat again saying, "He didn't listen - will you" and the guy replies with, "Eat shit"..... he turns and starts to spray bullets as fast as a DMR will around him... one more shot from me and he is dead..... no murders though, 2 bandit kills, so I don't feel as bad.

I tell me buddy to run up here and help me loot their stuff. I said I was going to move to a better spot to spot any other people coming from Cherno/North. I wait about 12 minutes for my friend and spot (using his M24) one of the guys I just killed making a B-line for the mountain to get his stuff back... my friend is seriously about 100m to the north of this guy so I tell him to hold off a second.... This guy is making his way back up and I have a direct shot on his old body, so if he goes for it I'll know... then out of nowhere behind me someone unloads on me with a handgun of some sort (1911 maybe?) and I am out cold.... so I tell my buddy he needs to get up here now. He makes it up just in time to grab my revolver and take out the guy who killed me as the original sniper is looting his old body.... My buddy is able to give me an epi-pen and when I come back I am able to blast the original sniper again.
After the intense few minutes we loot real fast and head north....

It was a pretty crazy tailing those guys for so long, my heart was just pounding since if they turned around I was screwed because of my shotgun range.

Zombies are trouble if you're trying to be stealthy to keep yourself hidden from other players. They see and hear you easily, and unless you're killing them with a crossbow or a hatchet, the more you kill the more come to find you.

If you're certain (or don't care) that there are no other players around you, just run, and zombies become harmless.

I love seeing stuff like this. There are a bunch of people all over the day z forums saying "why don't people rob each other like on these youtube videos? Its fun and hilarious". Your story shows that the answer is - people will fight back, even if to their own detriment. So, it makes it not worth it to attempt a robbery when there is a good chance that person will hurt or kill you in the process. I realize you weren't trying to rob them Sidekick, just that even when they were at a tactical disadvantage, they still chose to resist.

I find this so particularly interesting because people that argue for gun rights always say 'well, if you think people are armed, you're less likely to pull crap like trying to mug someone'.

Hopefully I don't derail your post and this thread into something else, because that is not my intent. I just like seeing stories like this that parallel what might happen when you take two armed people and put them into a certain scenario.

Sounds like what the game is built for sidekicknick!

Curious though, how do you talk to them with voice? Is it the direct communication channel? I never know if it's working...

If you're on the direct chat channel (usually all servers allow) you hit CAPSLOCK and should see a little mic icon... then whatever you say is heard within like 40m or something - the sound is also directional.

Caps lock is direct voice. It only works in the local area, 40m if I've been told correctly. Text chat is 80m radius. There is no 'whole server' chat anymore.

Often times, server owners will augment with a teamspeak server, so you can chat globally over voice with anyone else in the server.
