Yea I know what you're saying. I didn't expect any fancy features but locked resolution and fps is just plain lazy. And they actually have made a PC game not all that long ago.

From what I've found googling it was a lot less half-assed of a port.

In their defense (FromSoftware), that game they did port was published by themselves and with Dark Souls it is totally up to Namco as they are the publisher and if it was to be ported because they are paying for it and giving the time window for the port to be done. So they were given a short window and very little of a budget to get this done and they don't have much experience on the PC side of things.

The only thing I have real issue with as far as the game is concerned is the framebuffer, I can deal with the 30fps because of the type of game it is and as long as the framerate is steady that is fine with me (after playing through the console version I am very much looking forward to playing through blighttown without it being a stutterfest).

At best, we can hope the game does sell what was anticipated by the petition and get some patches to improve some stuff and future games will be developed along side the PC version meaning a much better experience. At worse, the game sells like crap and we wont get any more games from them and more then likely any game that gets a petition to be ported to the PC the publisher/dev will just reference this situation saying no.

Seeing as how the NA version of the dark souls patch isn't even getting fixed (knight armor bug comes to mind), I find the chances they'll even release something for a PC port completely unlikely.

Seems like they are pulling the videos down as soon as they are going up since it was announced at the Spike VGA show. Here's a gif of footage from it

I can't wait! I just hope they do PC concurrent development this time. I don't want to buy it twice!

Getting pretty far in DS, find that it's hard but mostly due to poor controls and bad design choices. The inability to change the controller buttons from that nightmare of a layout is the biggest challenge this game has. Can't tell you how many times I've pressed X trying to do an attack and then use a potion. I'd say that's 2/3 of my deaths.

Clean code and some better design choices and it wouldn't be that hard of a game at all... IMO better ways to make it hard.

Sigh. They are announcing dark souls ii and I'm STILL stuck at the start of dark soul 1. If I can ever get past that first boss (after the tutorial boss) will the game get easier ?

If you are having problems with the Taurus Demon then you are screwed. Later on you start fighting normal enemies tougher than him.

Sigh; just what I needed. I guess I'm screwed :(

Is there a 'cheat' to make it easier for handicap morons like me ?

No cheats that I know of.

Keep trying, if you can't beat him try playing a new class instead and you might find that better suited to how you play.

Seriously? I highly doubt if you can't figure out what buttons to press, you are 2/3's of the way through the game.

Also, there are trainers out there if you really can't beat the game.

Same.

Game is ultimately exceptionally rewarding as a result of the design choices IMO. It doens't mean the going isn't frustrating.

I can't really think of anything i'd change. The gameworld is so rewarding because the gamer is made so undeniably responsbile for his/her success/failure. To many games these days put a player on an easy slide for success and it's really not that fun. Dark Souls makes it feel like you beat the odds.

What makes Dark Souls difficult is that if you fail on the boss fight you typically have a few minute run before you can try him again. If you simply had a 'retry' option, it wouldn't be such an issue. Of course, I am no advocating that at all. I love the fact that this game is difficult.

The real problem with the game is all the 'summon' fails you get. I seem to get invaded just fine, but summoning people? Yeah, well that is a bout 1/3 chance of working. So, I was on Orstein and Smough wanted some assistance (Knight Solaire makes a great meat shield, but cannot be healed with flasks and then eventually dies) and everytime I went to human form I was invaded. Killed, Rinse repeat. Lost a lot of my hard humanity. Even so, with Knight Solaire and just myself we could get Ornstein down to 5% and somehow he would pull out a double butt stomp lightning and kill me.

So I have a love/hate relationship with this game. But the biggest problem I have is with how hard it is to summon people. It is hit or miss and sometime it works multiple times in a row, while others can be failed 10 times in a row. And you have to wait about 30 seconds between each attempt.

Once you get geared up, *almost* every boss is easy. There are probably 5 bosses that are pretty difficult. However, this is only in New Game. NG+ is said to be a lot harder, but I am curious if that is truly the case. As a few people have said differently.

Awesome game. Can't wait for the second one.

NG+ is where the real game starts for all DS series. Your mistakes hurt a lot more because mobs do a lot more damage.

I would have enjoyed this game much more as a child, when I had endless time to rehash the same things over and over (much like nes games), before I discovered girls, jobs, families, etc.

Now..while I can see the appeal, I can honestly say I will never finish this game, life is too important.

Well, that's hardly a terrible thing. You can be a heck of a lot more understandable then Dark Souls while still having bucketloads of mystery.

Just think about how many of the available plot details came from Kaathe - a character who you wouldn't even know existed unless you murdered 1 friendly NPC, pissed off another useful one, jumped down a bottomless pit and fought one of the hardest bosses in the game before the midway point.

He's the only one who really clues you in on why the game's called Dark Souls, and he's buried under a pile of bad ideas. That's not just being mysterious, that's creating a plot that's going to be incomprehensible to nearly everyone.
