Well, that's hardly a terrible thing. You can be a heck of a lot more understandable then Dark Souls while still having bucketloads of mystery.

I agree with this. While the shallow back story and plot is a nice addition to the mysterious nature of the game, they could expand upon it a bit more without really losing that. Really, if for nothing else than keeping the series interesting. Otherwise, you'll just be playing the same basic game again and again and I can easily see that as the drop off point for me personally.

Was I the only person intrigued by the item descriptions that hinted at story you could never really know? I am glad their was an occult mace hidden in Havel's chambers. I love that fact that director said his favorite starting gift was the Pendant. Sure, they have stated a lot of stuff that got left out, like Solaire was going to be the offspring of Gwyn.

No, you aren't the only one.

Honestly, the new director already made me hesitant. The interview just made it worse. Worst case, making things more "direct" could mean hand-holding with a force fed story. Even in the best case, the atmosphere wouldn't be the same.

Yeah I am just hoping by more direct they mean the main story line and leave all that goodness that is speculation to the community again.

I mostly agree with the following article as to how they could improve DSII.
http://www.1up.com/previews/dark-souls-ii

The funniest part is this, however..

Fix that Frame Rate

Hey, at least you PC gamers got a fan-made patch to solve Dark Souls' frame rate woes -- those of us who played either of the console versions weren't too lucky. And if you took one look at that last sentence and asked "What frame rate problems?" then you haven't yet visited Blighttown, the number one destination to show off the game's technical issues. It isn't uncommon to see dips into the lower teens when you enter this already deadly area, and, needless to say, seeing a slideshow of enemies tearing apart your frail body doesn't make the experience go any smoother. Since Dark Souls II will be the third attempt at this kind of an experience, there's no excuse for From's programmers not to have a much more polished product right out of the gate. And if they can't muster up the resources themselves, they can always fly out the amateur programmers who helped fix their originally half-assed PC port.

Seriously? I highly doubt if you can't figure out what buttons to press, you are 2/3's of the way through the game.
Not 2/3 through the game.. you read it wrong.. and yes the inability to change the bottons is lame.

And to make it worse today my controller doesn't work in the game at all.. it triggers teh GFWL and works in all my other games like Mark of the Ninja just fine but not in DS.. sorry to say it but this is a nightmare of a bad port job. I'd expect this level of programming from interns.

I disagree with the menu gripe. It wasn't clunky and it wasn't confusing. I had no problems. I will note that I never used a mouse / keyboard as I came from the Xbox version and already had everything memorized. Just look up some speed runs and you'll notice they don't have problems using the menus.

I really think the only thing I agree with is the frame rate gripe. They could just change locations, spruce up the graphics, add in a few more weapons and I'd be happy.

Sorry I did misread that, however, after spending 10 minutes of being thrust in (no hand holding tutorial or practice area) I would assume the controls would be known by then. Your controller not working, that is that. You want them to test 100% of controllers with the game? Also, the DSFix allows for remapping of keys.

Yeah I agree what ya, the menu wasn't really all that bad. The boss fights and PVP issues, those could both be improved though, IMO, and the game would be better for it.

I like the boss fights. It sounds like "improved" in this article just = gimmicks (like Bed of Chaos).

The best boss fights (like Artorias and O&S or False King from DemS) simply rely on good execution from the player in terms of blocking, dodging, etc. I believe those two fights are the favorite of many players in the game, and the 'strategy' is really just to be a good player and know how to fight correctly with your weapon.

As far as PVP goes, From does the best they can with the limited testing they can do. It isn't like they have an open beta or anything, and they do their best to fix issues. For example

if you disagree, just try fighting a human opponent equipped with a ring of fog

Come on, that was fixed over a year ago, basically right after the game was released! Do these people even play the game?

I've only played the game on PS3 when it was first released but I do remember the PVP was substantially worse than it was in the first game due to non-dedicated servers. They may have fixed the ring of fog glitch (you're probably right) but that was a problem for me when I was playing through it for around the first two months it was out and I ended up disconnecting my PS3 to finish the game. Maybe they're pointing out the fact that it existed in the first place and took forever to patch out, IDK.

Well this game is completely impossible for me to play with keyboard and mouse. My god, I need to get me a controller.

I felt the same for the first 30 hours.
It gets easier, trust me.
120 hours in and I feel like I could roll a new character and just breeze through most enemies even O&S.

This game definitely has a learning curve. Believe it or not, the hardest part of the game is the first 1/2 when you are still learning. I remember playing the game at first and dieing ALL THE TIME. Then I would hear people say 'just wait until NG+!' and of course, had me thinking of quitting.

BUT... I can positively say that if you end up beating the game in NG, you will find NG+ a breeze. Not just parts of it, but all of it, with the exception of a handful of bosses.

I am SL120 - Pure melee with some Pyro (rarely use) and instea of co-op the bosses like I did in NG... I am soloing them in NG+. Ornstein and Smough is a good example, as they are probably the tuffest boss in the game. While I have not defeated Gwyn yet in my second play through, I don't expect any problems.

My first time fighting Gwyn he kept chain attacking me and my endurance bar eventually depleted and I died once he cut through my shied. Then I thought if blocking doesn't work, Riposte might... And the second time I went in there the boss died. I used two flasks the entire fight.

Also don't believe that NG+ = 3 times harder. That isn't true. It all depends on what area of the game. Since NG towards the end started to really ramp up the difficulty, those areas only received a 50% buff in most cases, even less probably. Anor Londo Two Super Knights had around 900 in NG, and they have around 1200 in NG+ - Still predictable and still easy. Demons, as always might be the most difficult mobs (for me), esecially the one in Lost Izaleth. He isn't even a 'boss' but the guy can obliterate me...

O&S is a skill boss fight. Once you've learned the attack patterns and the proper defense moves, it's one of the easiest fights in the game. It's not totally downgraded to non-threat the way Artorias, Sancturary Guardian, Manus and Gwynn are, but much of the initial challenge is figuring out the countermoves.

New Game+ problem bosses aren't the same as the standard game ones. The big brick wall is generally the 4 kings. That battle is much more tied to your ability to take them down before you're facing all 4 at once, and that's the situation where vastly increased boss HP hurts bad.

Finally bought this game and a controller for the pc to try it out. Put a few hours in but I think I'm giving up on it. The controls and camera are just horrendous. Probably the worst I've experienced in years. Maybe it's because I don't play console games? Ah well

Yea..there are 2 things you need to know.

1. There is a lock on (that fixes the camera issue to a degree so you can at least hit what you're trying to)

2. Default controls are somewhat backwards....
