Glad I knew that. I have been hit with many of their ridiculous fees in the past and this may have saved me from more in the future.

Why? Because people don't bother reading the fine print? That's not BB's fault. Their marketing could use improvement, but it's the buyer's responsibility to know what they're getting themselves into.

They already had to settle on a previous lawsuit about late fees even though it was "in the fine print"

I would. considering the commercial leads you to belive that it is good at all locations. They should run a fine print at the bottom of the commercial that says something like the fast food commercials "good only at participating locations"

They do, it's just so small you can't see it unless you are like a foot from the TV, and it's only on the screen for MAYBE 3 seconds.

false! i just watched the damn commercial and i didn't see any fine print.

Sucks for me, turns out this No Late Fees arrangement is ONLY available at Blockbuster corporate stores, not any franchise locations. Spoke to the manager at my local BB and it turns out nearly 1/3 - 1/2 of all BB stores are not corporately owned and the only way to find out which is which is by asking.

Whatta load of advertising crap!

YOU are angry because YOU failed to ask someone at the store about this?

This is why we have so many "victims" in america. No one bothers to RESEARCH anything, or ask simple questions. Blockbuster cannot make the franchisees promote this offer, as I believe iit would be illegal. I mean, c'mon, you never even stopped to consider that your local BB might be a franchise?

i'd agree with you on this in most cases, but not in this one. what percentage of people actually thought that it might not apply to their local blockbuster?

Same rule applies thing when McDonalds advertise certain sandwiches for $1.
Not all McDonalds will sell those sandwiches for $1.
So you get mad too when certain McDonalds don't sell them for $1.

Just because you see something advertise on TV, it doesn't mean they're all true.
So next thing you're going to tell me you believe everything you see advertise on TV ??

The rule of thumb here is ASK ??
Was it too hard to call up your local BB and ask ??
CTrain = turd? what percentage of people actually call their local store to ask about an advertised offer? have the time to call in and ask about every single advertised offer they see on tv? i'm sure you do and you're a better person for it. :cookie:

masterxfob=IDIOT ?? He belongs to a group of people that believes everything they see on TV.
Yes, all those diet pills do work.
Yup, all those cleaners magically clean every stain you've ever encounter.
AGain, if you keep eating at Subways, you've be thin again just like Jared.

Point of this thread ?? Don't ever assume.
Sure, I've assume many times before but when I'm wrong, I learn and not do again next time.
I don't go around blaming others for my mistake.
Its just really hard for the OP to ask the clerk or call before assuming "NO late fee" ??
The correct answer is NO....ding ding ding...correct answer

For all the people crying lawsuit, in the membership agreement, it states that you cannot initiate a class action lawsuit against BB. Instead, you have to go to arbitration for the matter to be reconciled.

Rent movies at your local mom & pop video store. They tend to be cheaper and they allow 1 day rentals. I hate how some places make you rent your movies for 4-5 days for a higher price.

there's a big difference between a product doing what it's supposed to do and a company sticking to a policy that is the complete focus of a new advertising campaign.

No, theres no difference at all.
Its kinda obvious alot of you lost your common sense.

OK, BB is advertising "NO late fess"..
You go to BB and
1) Rent the videos and return them 7 days later not expecting late fees or
2) You ask someone about the new "NO late fees" policy before renting

Anyone with common sense would ask and confirm first.
Who in the fvck just blindly rent the videos and expect NO late fees just because they see it on TV.
(even if there wasn't this "franchise" thing, who knows, some stores might not have started yet.)

The point of the thread isn't "Is BB misleading its No late fees"... I think it is BS
I thought the point of this thread was "the OP crying about the NO late fees because he did it witout asking" which was his fault for not asking.

How about another example ?

CC companies advertise "0% interest in purchases and transfer" all the time.
So do all you just blindly go buy a bunch of sh!t and pay it back a yr later ??

Well, NO, anyone with common sense would call and ask about the specifics and confirm it first.
Good lord, do some of you guys just see something advertise and just assume its TRUE ??

CTrain must be right, he comes off so agressive and anal retentive that anything else is just unacceptable. let's just end it before he ruptures a blood vessel from his rising blood pressure. we're wrong, he's right.

Aren't you the one that came out with the name calling first ??
Ctrain=turd ?? Does that ring a bell ?
Talk about being agressive.

I was just argueing like everyone else where you had to come out with the name calling.

i don't think its reasonable to assume that people know a blockbuster policy chance only applies to non franchise stores. most people do not know they have franchise stores, let alone there would be a policy difference. this new policy was hitting the headlines everywhere, i didn't see mention of franchise bs...

Aphex, I'm on your side. Although I would have called before assuming this, I can see how many people got duped by this advertising campaign.

It's BS.

First off CTrain, after your reading your posts i can come to no other conclusion that your a complete asshole.

Anyway, if you read my update you will see why i assumed. Did i make a mistake? Yes, of course. However, I do still stand by my assertion that BB needs to fix their advertising.

And of course if you read my posts, I think their AD is misleading too but it isn't the point of this thread.
Most things you see in this world is misleading in one way or another.
The point is most people confirm thing before assuming anything.

If you had admit it was your mistake in the first post, this thread wouldn't have lasted this long.
You were whinning about the late fee and put the total blame on BB which is why you have so many people disagreeing with you.

And assuming I'm a total @sshole...assume on.
You should assume everyone is an @sshole too from now on when they strongly disagree with you.
