I think he makes a valid point. The advertising blitz Blockbuster is currently airing implies that they are stopping late fees. It doesn't say it's only certain stores except for some very small print flashed at the bottom of the screen for .000005 seconds. I was only able to read it one day because I was right in front of the TV. I agree people need to be more informed, but the ad is misleading.

Maybe, but how long does it take to call your local BB and make sure? I ALWAYS assume that strings will be attached when a major corporation advertises something like this.

Agreed....

I don't rent from that craptastic place anyhow...I prefer to rent from the local store and support small business in my community.

I didn't even know local small business type video stores still existed. Haven't seen on around here in a long time.

Sucks for me, turns out this No Late Fees arrangement is ONLY available at Blockbuster corporate stores, not any franchise locations. Spoke to the manager at my local BB and it turns out nearly 1/3 - 1/2 of all BB stores are not corporately owned and the only way to find out which is which is by asking.

Whatta load of advertising crap!

YOU are angry because YOU failed to ask someone at the store about this?

This is why we have so many "victims" in america. No one bothers to RESEARCH anything, or ask simple questions. Blockbuster cannot make the franchisees promote this offer, as I believe iit would be illegal. I mean, c'mon, you never even stopped to consider that your local BB might be a franchise?

i'd agree with you on this in most cases, but not in this one. what percentage of people actually thought that it might not apply to their local blockbuster?

Yep..we have two in my town. The one I go to is run by a nice guy from town and his wife, and they also run the local Domino's Pizza.

strange its 30 for 2 movies at your location? its 30 for 3 movies for me. its more than netflix but since blockbuster is so close its down a hill its beats waiting a day. great way to exercise too, walk down hill jog back up

I rented 136 movies in one month from Hollywood Video for $10 a month (first three months). Thats the record at the store I go to. Don't think it'll ever be beat either.

So you were a dumbass and ASSUMED something that happened to be wrong, and somehow Blockbuster is responsible for your dumbassery?

Same rule applies thing when McDonalds advertise certain sandwiches for $1.
Not all McDonalds will sell those sandwiches for $1.
So you get mad too when certain McDonalds don't sell them for $1.

Just because you see something advertise on TV, it doesn't mean they're all true.
So next thing you're going to tell me you believe everything you see advertise on TV ??

The rule of thumb here is ASK ??
Was it too hard to call up your local BB and ask ??

Gave them 24 rolls of pennies and cut up my card in front of them over four years ago and havn't looked back. If they can find a way to screw you, Lackluster... erm Blockbuster will do it.

Yes, we should protest BB becuase they put restrictions on things they cannot control. PUHLEASE.

If anything, these commercials should encourage franchisees to participate in the whole "zero late fees thing", as people will expect this when they visit their local BB.

If you want to be angry with someone, be mad at the franchisee.

Most people aren't even aware that there are corporate and franchise Blockbusters. After all, there's nothing to differentiate one from another by looking at the store so, unless you hang out here, how would the question even arise?

ALL of the Blockbusters in my town (Tallahassee) are franchises and NONE of them are participating in the "no late fees" thing so it might as well not exist at all as far as we're concerned. :(

So, now the franchise stores can either go with the new nolatefee promotion OR they have to basically announce to the customers 'we still have late fees' if they don't want to piss people off. And in doing so the franchises are basically admitting they know they'll anger many customers and make more money with late fees than they believe they can the new way.

Ah well, still cheaper then buying the movies and watching 'em one time. Just bring 'em back on time still.

That sucks... did not know about that, and I will have to check...

Is the no late fee thing just US, or does it apply to Canadian stores as well ?

I would pay specific attention to the ads. If it doesn't state that in the ads, you shouldn't have to pay. This could be lawsuit material.
