I hope the guy goes to jail for a long, long time. He's an officer of the court, he should know not to take justice into his own hands. He should also know that children don't always tell the truth.

Reminds me of Samuel L. Jackson in "A Time to Kill".

Was it premeditated? I'm not a lawyer, but I think if he did it right after he was told it might not be, even if he brought the weapon with him.

He's a patent attourney, not exactly an officer of the court. Not all lawyers are criminal lawyers.

Father is a moron. Threw away his own life, and his family for "justice."

Sad story. He will get at least several years in prison.

Except in that story there was some pretty strong evidence that the scum who did that to his little girl were, in fact, guilty.

yeap. and in this one you have zero evidence.

He did everything necessary to make it seem as if he acted in rage. A crime of passion. He was standing in shock when the police arrived, this is totally uncharacteristic, etc. He's got a big firm behind him. They'll be able to drag out the dirt they need to make the neighbor look like scum, and the Edington will plead to manslaughter with 3 years in jail or so.

Really his biggest problem is that he'll be disbared. Fortunately most patent attorneys are fairly proficient engineers of some sort, so I'm sure he'll be able to find other good work.

He is rich, a lawyer, and most importantly, White, which rounds him out very well.
He will get away with it.

Why would you assume a 29-year-old attorney is rich?

Poor people can't post 1 million dollars bail.

He's a patent attorney and he went to schools that you would only go to if they were giving you free rides.

A patent attorney that green doesn't make a ton (indeed, relatively few attorneys are wealthy), and your assumptions about his schools are more or less completely arbitrary. Fordham is a good, not stellar, law school, and attracts bright applicants who expect to pay. There are very very few free rides given to law schools. Most people will go to the best school they can get into, period.

You're right, having gone to those schools, he probably wouldn't be making much money. His firm probably bailed him out.

As far as which law school to select, you're right. But when you get into the top 5, is better really that much better? A friend of mine back in school got into HLS and Columbia, but Columbia offered him a full ride with stipend. He still chose HLS, costing his dad nearly $200k all said.

hmmm I've yelled obscenities at children, have had a car accident, and I walk around my house nude fairly often. Guess I need to keep my windows and doors locked when I sleep.

I have 3 kids and i dont know about the rest of you but when my kids were 2 they could bearly talk, much less say. "Mommy that bad man next door touched me".

so now mr lawyer acting on emotion kills guy next door and he will now get to watch his daughter grow up from behind a 1 inch piece of glass as she comes to visit him in prison.

way to go buddy.

"Either he was partly clothed or revealed parts of his anatomy that were inappropriate,"

How genteel.

Exactly, what a selfish douchebag. If he had thought about what he was doing for 1 sec and how he is now leaving his wife & daughter to fend for themselves basically.

No offense, but you appear to know essentially nothing at all about law schools or being an attorney, so I suggest you refrain from speculating about them. It really annoys me when people with no firsthand knowledge spout off like that.

Fordham is a very good school (it's currently ranked 32nd). A graduate in the top 10% of his class from Fordham can have his pick of any number of excellent, high-paying jobs. My point, earlier in the thread, was that most young lawyers don't make a lot of money, regardless of their school. There's nothing wrong with Fordham.

Your friend made a very different choice than I would have, and it surprises me his father was willing to subsidize it. Harvard certainly has a certain cache (my father is a Harvard alum, and people still give him a certain deference as a result, although he graduated 43 years ago), but Columbia is outstanding as well. I find it odd that anyone whose father could afford to pay for Harvard could get a full ride at Columbia, which makes me a little wary of believing your story, however. Pretty much everyone at Ivy League schools gets some form of financial aid, but a full ride is very unusual where you or your family have the ability to pay.

Bingo.

And I'm amazed at how many people think "insanity" will work in this scenario. It won't. As much as this other man may or may not have hurt the daughter, the dad is the one that has destroyed his family.
