I just spoke to one of my neighbors who just came out of COVID quarantine. He and his wife are in their 60's and retired. Their adult daughter lives with them with her three kids. All three of the adults had COVID. He told me that they had the Regeneron treatment and a doctor gave him steroids and antibiotics. His COVID was in chest/lungs and was close to getting pneumonia. After he told me his story I asked if he had the vaccine. No, they heard that if you get the vaccine you are contagious for a period of time and that's how they got it, from someone else who had just been vaccinated. He then proceeded to tell me that the vaccine doesn't prevent COVID it just lessens the affects. I agreed with him on the latter and said that it helps keep you out of the hospital ICU, being intubated and dying.

So I have four neighbors who are trumpies, did not get the vaccine, got COVID, got the Regeneron treatment and recovered all within four houses of me. That's scary. It also explains why Florida is using so much Regeneron.

Unrelated, here is a long but very good article about a breakthrough case.

EDIT.

He is correct that vaccines do not prevent disease. You can still inhale the virus, the virus will still try to replicate in your lungs. What the vaccine does is give your immune system a head start in the race against the virus. Just like police training doesn't prevent crimes and military exercises do not prevent war. Both just make the police and military more effective.

He is incorrect about the vaccine being contagious. The mRNA vaccines are instructions for your body to produce a portion of the Covid virus proteins. The J&J vaccine is a different virus (modified adenovirus to prevent replication) that contains the instructions to produce a portion of the Covid virus proteins. That is it. The mRNA vaccines are not even a virus, neither type of vaccine gives your body all that it needs to produce the Covid virus. At most you get just a portion of the Covid virus. The vaccine cannot replicate Covid and cannot spread Covid.

EDIT.

Bolded is not true.
The vaccine does prevent a person from being infected. Yes, and if there is a breakthrough infection, the chances of
hospitalization are much lower than an unvaccinated person. Anywhere Ive read from10-30X less. There are breakthrough infections, but they are not the norm.
It is still uncommon in vaccinated people.

"Studies so far show that vaccinated people are 8 times less likely to be infected and 25 times less likely to experience hospitalization or death. Vaccines remain effective in protecting most people from COVID-19 infection and its complications. "
.

Read this from Dr Craig Spencer:
People may know him from from being interviewed on MSNBC

Data on percentage of breakthrough cases varies as not a lot data is on it and it has changed because of Delta variant.
Early on from the CDC on data collected from April -July was .01%. This was before Delta (link below)
More current data shows ranges from .72% in DC, 0.5% in Delaware and Pennsylvania Public health says 6% of cases are from vaccinated people.
That's quite a range but even if you took PA's worst cases data at 6%, its means that 16 of 17 vaccinated people are not getting infected with COVID-19.
With the others it shows less that 1:100 are getting breakthrough infections.

Pay attention to this.^^^

Vaccinated LESS likely to be infected, and IF so, LESS likely to hospitalized or die.

@Lanyap your neighbors are lucky their ignorance did not kill them. Still wasted a lot of medical resources tho.

Provided they sign a waiver they will no longer get any medical treatment from this point on
I was thinking more along the lines of negligent homicide charges if the person dies because they were removed from the hospital against medical advice.

COVID has uncovered the prevalence of a fatalistic attitude in society that I never quite realized before. Like that a 1% fatality rate isn't a big deal, or that if a vaccine isn't 100% effective then why bother. I get there's a lot of bad actors in this game, from political interests to facial recognition companies that are against masks to the mighty power of Big Snake Oil, but wow...
Recently I saw comments (elsewhere) from conspiracy theorists asking people if they knew anyone in real life who died from COVID, intentionally trying to sow FUD with people who hadn't been personally affected.. and it really got to me. Because my brother's mother-in-law had just passed from COVID. The family is devastated. She had just beaten a years-long cancer battle, was in remission, and then bam! dies suddenly from COVID. She was vaccinated, but she got exposed, and in her weakened immune condition from cancer.. and we are fucking surrounded by millions our fellow Americans who literally don't a flying fuck about their fellow Americans. Or anyone but themselves for that matter. It's just.. disappointing, to say the least.
Conservative heroine Ayn Rand often spoke of a rational self-interest. Of a selfishness that still served the greater good. Today's conservatives will have nothing to do with anything that altruistic.

I think you're missing out on how many people believe there is an imminent, inevitable collapse of society, and how many actively want that to happen. This is really pervasive. I'm not kidding that I've had probably 50% of people that I've had conversations with in the past 10 years claim this. The alarming thing for me is how many will divulge it in the only conversation I've ever had with them. Its like "nice to meet you, oh by the way you realize everything is shit and its all about to go down the tubes completely, right?" The reason Republicans have been so easy to convert into a doomsday death cult is because they already believed it and were just waiting for their shit messiah to speak the gospel to them. That's why they worship Turmp, he's their G(od)-O(f)-D(ump). Everything's shit, except he'll fix it by making it shittier (somehow).

But don'tcha know, greed is good, social Darwinism (brought to you by the people that don't believe in Darwinism...), etc.

For reference, the Bechdel test is a fuckin joke and not even a mediocre indicator of feminism in a movie. WAY too many softcore and hardcore porns pass the test, even if they glorify rape and exploitation.

I get that being oblivious is your thing, but the Bechdel test is not an indicator of feminism (ignoring simple facts like not all women are feminists for instance). Not only that, it literally started as a joke in a comic strip so...yes it is a joke. And the premise is meant to be rather silly, because its only qualifier is if 2 women have a conversation in a movie that doesn't involve discussing a man, and yet, a ridiculous amount of movies don't actually pass that ridiculously low bar. Its meant to highlight how absolutely stupid and poor writing of female characters in pop culture is. It is not the arbiter of feminism in movies, despite what your incel buds tell you, it is one measure used by feminists to point out issues in how women are treated in movies.

Oh, you're one of those clowns. I'm guessing you read all the shitty gossip tabloid crap articles (while ignoring any of the occasional decent ones) in Playboy too? It is amusing to see you point out that yes, a really simple premise to gauge how females are written has flaws, while you also ignore all actual nuance by citing probably the incest rape porn that you apparently jerk off to (are you the source of the algorithm bias, that you've watched so much porn, especially of that type that you've singlehandedly made it damn near impossible to not encounter?).

But hey, at least there's finally something I can confidently say, you certainly have more expertise on how women characters are written in porn movies.

Curious, how did Trump supporters go from "OMG OPERATION WARP SPEED, BEST PRESIDENT EVER" to "Dangerous, unproven vaccine, I'll take ivermectin, iodine, nebulized hydrogen peroxide or whatever else is under my kitchen sink instead."

I'm sure you can all think of some appropriate George Carlin quotes.

Bottom line for me. I pretend I don't have a vaccine, and practice all forms of social distancing and wear a mask inside all locations. Sometimes you let your guard down. Damn Costco started handing out samples again, and first I tried to eat with my mask on (still have not gone out to a sit down restaurant yet), oops, then I realized I was out in public indoors without my mask on. Damn. Yeah, I guess I over do it, but with self centered assholes running around, and my county is not among the higher vaccinated counties of WA state, I will continue on with my habits.

These people... You feel like you've seen the bottom of humanity and then you're reminded that the hole goes way way deeper.
One of the oddest things about who is dying from C-19, is how much alike so many of the men look. Like the same character model with slight customizations done in game, after going with the default settings during character creation. Chubby or heavier, goatee or Van ***, Oakley's, white, oldest gen x or a boomer, share all the same memes on FB. Even the relatives have the same dialogue tree; he fought it hard, strong/tough guy, went to be with Jebus, heaven has another angel, need prayer warriors, please donate to help with expenses.

The begging is the thing that grinds my gears. So you voted against creating a vigorous social safety net, universal health care, and higher taxes on the wealthy. And you were living basically paycheck to paycheck, often no health insurance or life insurance, and you left your family burdened because of your unnecessary death. Judging by the thousands of dollars they all raise, I guess socialism is fine, as long as they can make sure it goes to white MAGAs just like them.

When you think about who's gone totally tribal from right wing misinformation it makes more sense.

Yes, certainly, it only bothers me how well it fits the simulation theory. I am still struggling with whether or not I am a playable character. :p

So what you’re saying is … the NPC insult that these types used for a while was projection all along? 😂

A "how it started -how it ended" story of 2 covidiots; a mom and son. And there is invariably a virtual beggar's bowl gofundme page. Socialism is bad, remember?

I should have mentioned, you have to click on it to see the whole tragedy of willful ignorance unfold

LOL two more Herman Cain Awards handed down.

If anyone missed this clip, it is prime covidiot , And Jordan Klepper is going places. The part where he asks how we are doing fighting Satan had me laughing hard. His reaction makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Wait a sec, are you talking about COVID-19 victims or Jan. 6th insurrectionists?
