Conan or Warhammer or WoW in 2008?

What do you think will be the best RPGs and what do you guys think will have the most subscribers by the end fo 2008? 2009?

I predict a lot of people will leave WoW to try these new games but WoW will remain the biggest RPG by the end of 2008. The reasons people will leave WoW will be becuase of the lack of end-game content(other than raiding) and lack of true massive PvP battles that actually mean something in the game. WoW will remain strong by the end of 2009 but will lose at least half their subscribers by then, partly because the next expansion will render everyone's gear useless again and it will piss everyone off.

I think Warhammer will have a larger crowd than Age of Conan simply because it has a much larger fanbase from the previous DAoC crowd than the Anarchy Online crowd. However, looking very similar to WoW gameplay will hurt rather than help them. I have no idea what Age of Conan gameplay will look like. While I don't think it'll be a WoW killer, I do think about 40% of WoW players will leave for either of these new games by this time next year.

Even though I hate MMO's I may be tempted to give Warhammer a shot.

Have no interest in the others, and I honestly cant speculate as to which one will be "best".

I don't see a WoW clone beating out WoW. I think WoW will still be the number 1 MMO in 2008.

WoW pretty much caters to everyone. Warhammer seems to be catering to PVPers. AoC caters to an adult audience, but as for PVP or PVE, not sure. I'd have to say that most MMORPG players are PVE players.

I don't think I'll ever understand the PVP aspect of an MMO. there's just no skill involved at all. If you want PVP, go play an FPS game.

The Chronicles of Spellborn

check it out, for one, the targeting system of this game beats all other games. Its a mmorpg with fps like elements, where you get to aim at different bodyparts and such. In other words, skill will once again play a vital role.

World of Warcraft will be the most successful for the foreseeable future until Blizzard has decided that it has ran its course and launches a Diablo MMORPG.

Number 1 in terms of subscribers should really have nothing to do with quality of the game or what you each as individuals would prefer and enjoy to play. Have you checked out the Billboard top 40??? How about the top 10 TV shows? Because I sure don't see much in either of those lists that interests me at all (with rare exception).

I have to say Warhammer. Mythic has had an incredibly open development process with Warhammer. I have seen and heard tons of videos, interviews and pics for Warhammer. I've read tons of hands on previews of the work they've shown and allowed people to play at the Games Workshop conventions. Everything I've heard about and seen about Warhammer has been incredibly positive.

Revenue prediction: WoW >>>>> Warhammer > AoC

Quality prediction: AoC > Warhammer >>>> WoW >>>> elephant crap >>>>>>> scrapings taken from inside a toilet at a trucker bar at 4am >>>>>>>>>>>> Anything Sony/SOE makes, like EQ2.

I think Tabula Rasa has a really good shot, being a completely different setting (near future sci-fi) and having a very shooter-esque setup.

It also has a big name tied to it for MMO vets.

First off Warhammer is not a WoW clone as the basis for it is pvp, not pve.
Secondly while you may not understand PVP. There is a big demand for pvp centric play. Something WoW failed miserably at delivering. I'd say of the ~8 million subscribers to WoW, 10% of them are definately looking for a better pvp situation and a game built around that style of play. 10% gives Warhammer 800K subscribers if they all bolt. That would imo make it wildly successful.

Tabula rasa will probably attract a new kind of MMO players, instead of stealing players from the WoW fanbase.

I really doubt 10% of WoW players are into PvP centric gaming. I think it's more like 60-70% becuase half the WoW servers are PvP servers and a lot of the PvE server players are sick of PvE raiding and enjoy PvPing. The only reason most players raid in the first place is for better gear to PvP with(a broken system imo).

That being said, I really doubt all the dissatisfied players will flock directly into Warhammer. I think each MMORPG will garner a strong showing of at least a few hundred thousand subscribers for at least the first 6 months. After that they will either go the way of EQ2 and SWG or WoW and FFXI based on how good they are.

Ahh, you are used to WoW PVP apparently. There is major skill involved in PVP depending on the game. 100 vs 100 town raids in Shadowbane, equally huge battles in Star Wars Galaxies, decent 1vs2 or 2vs2 in UO. Even in WoW some skill is required to be decent. PVP in an MMORPG is as good as it gets. PVE is for for pussies. WoW screws up so bad on so many fronts. Like not being able to craft items. Sure, you can go through the motions and manufacture items, but you don't actually craft anything. There is no skill and no difference in results.

I'll be picking up Warhammer myself. Got to lvl 60 in WoW and was bored as hell.

Any MMO that focuses on PvP will never be the number 1 MMO. For ever one person that enjoys PvP, there's 10 who don't.

Same goes for MMOs that try to bring in FPS elements. An RPG is not an FPS and should not be made into one. MMOs adding FPS elements comes from publishers seeing the high initial sales numbers of major FPS titles and saying 'Me too!'. MMOs that fall into that category are also doomed to failure.

Sadly, WoW will be the largest MMO out there for a while. All Blizzard would have to do to crush the competition is simply to announce a new expansion. They don't actually have to do anything with it, just announce it. Throw in the standard fare, new land, more quests, maybe another race or two, new classes would be nice. It could all be half assed clones from other titles, but people would still rave about it.

I have been visiting warhammer's website sinec it's announced, so far, the more they look like WoW, the less I want to play it. Judging by what it is now, I doubt it will live up to the buzz.

Wow pre 60 is basically whoever has enough front load dmg wins, but at 70 you will get close to twice the HP you will get pre 60, and it's when strategy and surviability will start to matter. Rogues will turn combat, mages will turn ice or arcane, warriors will become protection, druids are going to diversify, etc, and it's when it starts to be fun again.
