thanks for this post. i got there at 5:10 and was like 15th in line. local oldies station was there and had a huge spotlight out front and gave away a 20" tv and a dvd player.

FUNNY STORY!!!!

i picked up 5 routers and everyone from the customer service girl yelling at me as i walked by to the checkout guy told me i could only get one. The manager said i could have all i want, just make sure they are on separate receipts.

Anyway, this young guy came up to me in line and told me i could only buy one. i explained they were for friends, and he tried to offer me $5 for one. I think an hour of standing in line is worth more than $5. Anyway, he then went and got a store assoc to come over and try to tell me i could only get one. i explained they are from different people, and will be purchased with cash and rebates to different locations, and he told the guy i was right. what a punk!!!!!

anyway, i came away with 5 routers, 2 pvr cards, wireless keyboard and mouse, and 2 cd cases.

Back from the Monrovia, CA store (not Arcadia... my bad) and scored the 1750BBRTL drive. Its a 180GB drive and it comes with an ATA133 controller!

Edit: ATA100, pardon. Anyone knows how to turn it into a RAID card?

Well I seem to have missed out on the CD Wallets, which is what I showed up for and they were out of. I refused to buy anything else, even free after rebate items, since CrapUSA has the worst rebate processing center ever. I absolutely will not buy anything from them that has a rebate ever again. Hope everyone got something they wanted. They even pass out a printed form now which states that they are not responsible for customers getting their rebates from manufacturers because the rebate center is an independent company. Well guess who pays the rebate center to handle all their rebates? CrapUSA. Considering how much of their business is rebate related my guess is they will be out of business within 2 years. I guess the CD Wallets were like a leader item- get them in the store and they will buy something we actually make money on. Wrong!

i certainly hope they were for different people - if you are that selfish otherwise you deserve all the abuse you got...

yeah, they were. i told the guy i know that i could've grabbed a couple more and charged people like him for them but that wouldn't be fair to those who waited an hour.

I hope everybody got what they wanted.

Yeah I got there at about 5:10, just beat the after-work crowd, there were about 15 people in front of me and about 70 people behind me heh, the only thing they were handing out claim slips on were the emachines tho, I still managed to score the 180gb hdd(there was a stack of like 35 and then the normal shelves of about 15 more on these), the pvr and the ups, I was in and out in 5 min (well after waiting in line heh) Unfortunately now I REALLY need that new PSU I had been edging toward lately, I have Wayyy too much drain on my current 400watt heh. Any ways thanks for the post, and hope I didn't knock ya down when I was trampling the old women to get to the front of the line :p

Went early to my CompUSA and they had removed all routers from shelf. I couldnt make it to store until 10 and asked what chances were they would hold one. No luck (I knew it - never hurts to ask). Walking away and I saw one tucked away behind some ordinary cable modems. Some one tried to hide it! I moved it to a much sneakier location and came back for it at 10.

Sorry if you didnt find your 11mb router at King of Prussia! I promise to give it a good home.

Dood... were there many drives and/or HP printers?

i didn't see the printers, but i wasn't exactly looking for them... they didn't have the hard drives out when i went in the afternoon to get the cd wallets, but i went back again at 6pm to get my gf some cd jewel cases :) anyways, they had a large stack of the hard drives out.. i coulda grabbed one, but i'm happy with the 240 gb i currently have

Alb, NM update. They ran out of routers and cd wallets and battery backups pretty quick. Luckily, I went by earlier today and got 2 of the wallets. A buddy of mine came by the CompUSA after I called him and they added more routers to the shelves (why they didn't do it immediately, I don't know), we found extra battery backups in the macintosh section (nobody ever goes in there, lol), and they still had about 10 hdd's when we left. Long story short, I got everything I wanted and didn't have to stand in line...w00t.

Oh, as far as the cheap hp printers, they were long gone when I went by this morning.

Anyone notice the 52x Buslinks didn't have Justlink or Smart Burn on them.
They just say Buffer Underrun technology and nero included.
Did anyone buy one today or does anyone know what kind of drive this is before I open it and regret that its not a liteon?

Went to the San Bruno Store here in the Bay area,

Got there at 5:55pm, there was like 200 ppl in line. They didn't let us in till around 6:15pm, and once I got in, everything seems to be gone. Stood in line for the HD, and they told me I need a voucher which all has already been passed out. The associate said I can come back at 11:30pm and get one if there is any left.

No $30 printers left, no CD wallets, no FAR left, grabbed a free popcorn and left the store around 6:55pm. A good 1 hr spent=(

I think there was a common misconception here, an issue which I brought up late last night (EST).

The deals on the back page of the ad, including the CD wallets and the PhotoSmart printer, were effective beginning store opening this morning (Friday). If your CompUSA still has any of the things on the back page left, you can still purchase them tomorrow and Sunday.

Seems like a lot of people expected a lot of the things when they lined up for the 6:00pm opening this evening. However, for the entire front page of the ad, those things end in 30 minutes to a couple hours, depending on your location, if they are still there that is. ;)

true dat. I went to the store in Santa Barbara/Goleta Area. AFAIK Majority of Goleta's Compusa store's customers are UCSB students and Friday was still final week. I got to the store 5 minutes before it opened in the morning and there were like 3-5 people. Got my CD binders and tv card, didnt want the printer because it came with cartridges that were half-empty. The cartridges would cost the same as that printer....

When I got to mine they didn't have diddly. The CSR said that the morning staff made a mistake and put everything out. Then she smiled and said "sorry".

You get a 180GB drive in the box, which is 167.7GB formatted. (It works great as my new firewire *uberdrive* :D)

I went to compUSA at 4:30, the one in Mission Viejo, CA. Waited near front of the line starting around 5:00. Not very many people at the time, and then people came rolling in. I'd say there were about 200 people in line. Many of the things on sale in the store got snatched up pretty fast. I'd say 15 minutes most of the good stuff was gone. Also, the 30 dollar printer they were SUPPOSE to have were all gone. Seems like people in the morning snatched those up.

Went to my Grand Rapids, MI CompUSA with my g/f at 5:30... about 40 people in line in front of me, and by the time the doors opened, a good 150+ total were in line. It was funny looking at all the people driving by 2-waying their wife/friend about how many people are in line, then they drive off. Manager guy comes out with vouchers for the eMachines computer for $299, ran out of those pretty quick, and that made 10 or so people leave the line behind me. Then someone else asked about the printer, and he said they sold out of those at 9:04 this morning, that made 20 people leave. Haha, people just cant read, as everything on the back of the flyer was the 3-day sale, started Friday at open that goes till Sunday.

They opened the doors and of course you get these dumbasses that just walk from the parking lot right in, as the line is slowly moving in... Me and some guys around us went off on them, it was hilarious, but they still got in... too bad they didnt have someone by the door. Oh well, got in, expecting to find no more hard drives (the thing i was really looking for), and lo and behold there were still 10 or so sitting on the ground in front of the hard drive display, i just walk up and grab one, others standing around looking at their ad and at the shelf... idiots. haha, anyway, was stoked to find that.

Wandered around after getting that, wondering if I could score one of those UPSes for my server, walked around, saw an endcap, but only the 500VA models were there, so i thought that was it, until i saw 3 people walk from the rear of the store with one in hand, go back there and theres a shelf full of 'em... i grabbed one, and another guy grabbed the last one. Mine wasnt sealed with that clear round sticker, but i didnt care too much, looked new. Funny story tho... when we were in the checkout line, there was a UPS sitting on the PS2 games shelf, and it was all sealed, so i go and switch it with mine... guy finally comes back for his after like 5 min... didnt notice a thing. haha

Seemed like a lot of people were there for the digital camera, as everyone went to the camera area, but no one had any clue what was on sale, my g/f stood around there for a while waiting to see what it was that was on sale, the clerk had no clue. It turned out it was the ones that were sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. So once they figured out which ones it was, those were gone fast. Then they told us we can get rainchecks for the items, so we stood in line for 20 min waiting for the customer service person to get thru all the rainchecks... family of 3 in front of us, and they wanted 3 rain checks for the camera, so the gal behind the desk says one per household, so the b*tch tells her husband and daughter to fill out different addresses on the form. Now the customer service rep finishes the first one, and shes like "they will deny these if u use the same credit card", trying her best to say no, but she busts out another credit card. By this time im making comments to my g/f about how people should be happy they get one, loud enough for the dumbasses in front of me to hear them. Got some dirty looks, but oh frickin well, people are way to greedy.

Turns out, at least in our store, you could have gotten rainchecks for anything in the ad, which i thought was pretty sweet. I got one for the camera... i know its not the greatest camera, but i need somethin. Dont know if they did that at other stores.

Spent a total of almost 2 hrs from getting in line b4 opening to checkout. But it was worth it!

All-in-all, a very good trip: 175GB HD, APC 300VA UPS, 2 CD wallets, and a raincheck for the camera. This will all go very well with the 75GB HD and 256MB RAM from BB that i got yesterday for $45 AR. Of course, the Credit Card is gonna need a long rest after this binge :)

well, only thing worse than shopping this, was workin' it. people are hysterical. one guy wanted to know why the $10 pda case didn't actually come with the ipaq as in the picture. well, all of you guys (or at least the more primitive non-ATers) served as entertainment for me tonight. and i didn't even buy anything.
