At least 100 in line at ours at 6. They gave out free Hagan Daz and Good Humor ice cream, donuts and apples. I got everything I went for and the FAR stuff went quickly. There were still plenty of the 175GB hard drives. There weren't any of the CD wallets at 6 but I saw them bring out more boxes of them so I guess they were saving some stock from this morning. I hope everybody got what they wanted.

Thanks Aphex. I wanted 2 of the drives, but am not sure I'll even get one at the store sinceI won't get there until 15 after. Now I know I get one at least.

Man, allisolm, I hope ur from the east coast or central area... don't scare me poor west coaster like that, lol.

Its 4:30 PST right now, I plan on being at the Arcadia, CA store at around 5. And if there's already a long line, I wont even bother with it.

I was surprised too! I looked at the items and most of them except the CD case and printer were still available. And like you, I bought the APC and notebook light - and the 30 CD slim cases. However, the darn shipping was $11!! Well, not too bad to get all that stuff for about $14 delivered (we hope)....

Just got back from the CompUSA in NYC on 37th and 5th. The good news: I the 175GB WD hard drive and some HP photo paper. The Bad news: There were plenty of hard drives, and not enough of the APC UPS' or cheapo digital cameras. Ah well, still a good night.

Edit: Just opened the hard drive. It is actually a 180GB WD1800BB and it comes with a free 2 Channel Promise IDE card that supports hard drivers larger than 137GB.

Well I just got back from the sale and I must say I am a happy camper. Got to the store at 5:30 and they let people in at 5:40ish. All of the FAR stuff was there for the taking but I only got the APC, the Photo paper, the lableing kit, the jewel cases, the Gamepad, and the USB light. I didnt even bother to look at the free software because I will never use it and I dont call to ebay it for a profit. I also skipped the PDA keychain (forgot actually) and the PDA organizer because it looked like sh!t. One of my uncles wanted the 22Mbit wireless but decided against it at the store. They also ran out of the cheap digicam that another one of my uncles wanted. Besides the FAR stuff I picked up the 200 CD organizer for 10 bucks (it also came with a smaller one for free) and a TV card for $5 AR. Not bad for about 45 min of shopping :)

Can someone who got the WD 175GB HD open it and tell us what's the actual
drive/capacity in the box? Just wondering since there isn't a 175 GB listed at
WD's web site. Is it actually a 180GB or 200GB? If it's 200GB then I might
take the risk of the $100 rebate.

180 GB

"WD1800" right on top of it. Came with a slip of paper "You have received extra gigabytes of disk space at no extra cost".

If you want one from a store, get down before they open. I got the LASt one off the shelf at about 6:05. Pretty much all the other geeks were in a train like fashion right to the hard drives. If there was 20 drives, I must have been #20 into the store.

omg, what a mad house.. alot of things left @ 6:45 in Little Rock, but the lines and parking was insane.. Just like Black Friday. So not worth it. The deals aren't good enough for lines wrapping around the store :/ I didnt buy anything because I didnt want to wait an hour in line.

Arrived at 5:45.
I bet there were more than 100 people in line. When I finally got in the store, there were nothing left there... All gone...
I found a FREE APC hidden behind some boxes and that was the only thing I picked up...:(

I didn't have much trouble in Roseville, MN store. In, grabbed a HD, line for about 15-20 minutes. The ATA card is a Promise ATA100TX2 card, if anyone is wondering. I got a 180GB HD in the box. Interesting marketing ploy for WD, kudos to them and their "You got FREE GBs" idea. If someone didn't know better, they would think they actually got 'free' GBs.

I just got the 175gb deal - it's actually a 180gb (180BB so 2mb buffer) drive which is fine by me for $99AR. I didn't have a voucher but so many drives were sitting there for so long that the manager just gave me one. They announced the need to come up to the front if you had one of the vouchers at lease twice.

Back when the day-after-thanksgiving sale went on, I was trying to figure out what the 75gb drive was, it was really 80gb (2mb cache also.) So now whenever I see this odd size ending with a five, I am hopeful and fairly certain it will be the next size or two up.

BTW this is the Detroit store on Ford Rd.

I didn't have too much trouble at Downer's Grove, IL CUSA. I got my drive fairly easily (I was there around 5:30 or so) and then picked up a few other non-sale items. I hurried up and got in line before the other members of the horde did and got out of there around 6:15. I can't wait to put this drive in my replaytv and quadruple the storage.

Anyone who grabbed the SMC $19.99 wireless router, did yours have a $30 rebate coupon stuck to the package. They also printed a $40 rebate at the register. You think both would fly? Both go to New Rochelle and require the original UPC, but different PO Boxes.

Maybe sending the $40 and then the $30 two weeks later?;)

I think instead of an upgrade note, WD should try this:
"Sorry you just received a downgrade at no cost to us. You will get some Gigabytes less than you pay for. Thank you."

Cool, another Rochesterer-RIT?
We got there about 5:45 (me and like 9 friends) and the line stretched like 1.5 stores down-easily 200 people there. as a group we walked off with like 5 UPS's, 7 hard drives, few notebook lights, several DVD-R and DVD-RW disks. I was amazed how many hard drives they had-they had enought for everyone-probally at least 200 drives when the doors opened, I wouldn't be suprised if there were 300. Overall, they had far more of the stuff than I expected.
Overall, CompUSA handled this sale far better than I expected.
