Honestly, while this seems to be a problem for a number of people in this thread, it's not for me. An old C&C game with great graphics and sound is exactly what I have wanted for years.

I don't know about you, but having Dr. Cameron from house as my assistant is just badass. It just appears to be a very well polished C&C. I don't think anyone is going to say that C&C3 brings anything really new to the table outside of its presentation, which is absolutely fantastic.

But neither does SC, when it comes down to it. The only real innovation is the zoom, which IMO completely *breaks* the game unless you're one of the 1% of people who have two monster video cards and two monitors. I might have enjoyed it more otherwise.

The problem with SC it's too hardcore of an RTS. Theres 100+ units, but they're all basically the same with different stats. The maps are huge, but you need two monitors and GPUs to play it right. You just build build build, mass mass mass and rush rush rush. It comes down to who clicks the fastest.

Whereas like starcraft, each unit in C&C has personality and a measure of versatility. Since each unit counts for so much more, in the end it feels far more strategic to me. The interface is far superior. You can build without running back to base, etc. And don't understimate the innovation that the planning button is - it's never been so easy to orchestrate an actual strategy rather than just massing and rushing.

And that fact that C&C looks twice as good, while running *at least* twice as fast, on the exact same hardware is hard to ignore.

If you're really, really into RTSes, to the point where you have the monster rig to fully play SC and care about it's mods, then you'll probably think SC is god.

But nullzero, you're *WAY* overestimating the size of that population. I'd bet hundreds that C&C will sell far more than SC will, because it's got mass appeal.

Feels just like C&C...I just picked it up and played it.

Whoever said something about the graphics being bad; I respectfully disagree...I think this game looks awesome, and I'm impressed at how quick it runs on my very old system (X800Pro, AXP 3200+).

I'm definately going to pick up a copy of this game. It's great so far.

My only gripe is that it's practically identical to the old C&C games and the only real addition is great graphics and sound.

It did feel nearly identical, but they fixed my one complaint with C&C; the unit balance. They feel SO much more balanced, and every unit feels like it can be utilized in one way or another.

Just as an update to my previous experience...

I'm absolutely *floored* by the performance of this game on my rig! I can run the game *smoothly* at 1920x1200 w/ 2XAA enabled! That's on an X800Pro/AXP3200+! I mildly overclocked my CPU/GPU and turned the settings all to 'medium'. I don't notice a visual difference, but the game runs sooooo fast on medium settings for me.

Great game, I'm buying this for sure.

I have played through the demo and beat the Campaign missions. However, after that, the game started to get boring and didn't offer as much as Company of Heroes in terms of tactical combat (tank rushes FTW! :Q) and innovation. It's exactly like the old C&C. While fun, I just don't find it immersing enough to warrant a purchase... :(

The shadows do look like garbage for me too. I've got them on high, w/ a 7800GS. If I zoom in as close as I can on them, it looks like the shadows are made of legos.

The ion cannon is the best part of the game, imo. Watching all those NOD buildings just crumble from that distorted blast is amazing.

Yeah, its a game issue. Courtesy of the Generals engine (that came out how many years ago?). ;) Looks the same on my 8800GTX.

Definitely enjoyed it. The gfx are excellent, and it plays very well. Not all too different from traditional C&C, but far better than the mess that was supreme commander. Looks great, runs great, plays great.

I have to disagree supreme commander is not a mess. It ranks up there as one of the best RTS games made to date (of course everyone has their opinion but the consensus is great game, from most gamers and game reviewers).

It is pretty good if you can get it to run, but a LOT of people are having major issues.

I played the tutorial and campaign so far... I like it except for the Ion Cannon. Is it me or is that thing fvcking cheap now? It went from destroying a building (not even every building type, at that) to an entire base. Cool fvcking effect though. :D

That's what I thought, but it's not as powerful in skirmish games.

The graphics are the best of any rts at the moment, and it even runs better than Supreme Commander at the same time. Load times are also very quick. The music did not seem to be that much of an impact unfortunately. I was really looking forward to a seriously awesome soundtrack. The explosions look very impressive though.

Have you ever even looked at Company of Heroes??!?!?!? :disgust:

My initial impression is positive, better than the supreme commander demo. The Ion Cannon is pretty cool, other units are nice, but I don't see anything new.

Ah thank god. :D I was worried... I did play a skirmish game but just ended up mainly using tanks.

I'm liking this game, I'm glad I pre-ordered it.

Of course the C&C one looks way better. You can tell the graphics are at a higher setting, especially AA considering the amount of jaggies in the CoH screenshot and the lack of them in the C&C one.

Also, the CoH shot is zoomed in more than the default, if you zoomed out it would look different.

Dude, that is a SHIiTTY screenshot of CoH. CoH looks appreciably better than C&C3 on my rig. CoH 1280x960 Maxed out w/4xAA, C&C3 same res and maxed with 8xS, CoH looks better. C&C3 has sweet frikkin shaders though. CoH just has amazing physics and particle effects. I like both equally as of right now. I'm picking up C&C3.

They finally did the ion cannon justice. And the animation sequence/effects are pretty cool; they remind me of the orbital cannon from Akira actually. Railgun mammoth rocks too.

Although the training mission was pretty ridiculous. One blast and basically the whole mission was done. But then, it was a training mission.

Overall I think it's a solid, polished game, and the campaign should be good (I don't play online).

I gave the demo a good long try, but Company of Heroes has set the bar very high in the RTS genre, and I haven't seen or played anything that comes close to it yet.
