If you're in school check out a gay/lesbian support group or organization.

Brilliant!

If all else fails, go talk to your Mom...;

Dead. Thx anyway.

If you're spiritual it still can't hurt to 'talk' to Mom on your own and might help ease the psychological burden which you seem to be carrying...just a thought. Either way, talk to someone.

Hey man, gay guys are cool. If your friends were REALLY friends, they would've treated you differently. Find new friends and move on with life. It's just the way it is. In fact one of the things I most admire is their sexually uninhibitated lifestyle and wish it would have more of an influence on heterosexual lifestyles. A lot of my friends are gay and it doesn't bother me one bit bro. Good luck on your journey and keep the chin up. You are you and you can't change that so live it to it's fullest.

West Indies party? What ethnicity are you? (I ask since it's more uncommon to hear of gay individuals in certain minorities)

My whole family/my friends in question are from barbados The 'high whites' (I hate that term) from the West indies generally come to Canada - and this Uni in particular as it's much cheaper than the states (more socialized) and provides a very respected education. There was nearly all West Indians from the City there (some 100) and that means all WI friends. Mostly Trinies and Bajans...okay, mostly trinies.
It doesn't help that 'there are no gay people in Barbados.'

Re: ethnicity, we're all white...although 99.99999% of BIM population is black.

Could you elaborate on that?

Check out local school support groups (even if you don't go to said University... they generally have pretty good ones if it is a decent size).

there are a lot of jerks in the world, and some in this forum *cough*felixdekat*cough*, so disregard their stupid comments. one of my best friend's mom came out of the closet after her divorce and she was a really fun and cool person. :)

I'm Guyanese Indian, and I'm personally not aware of any gay individuals from Guyana, Trinidad, etc. Granted, I know they exist, but I'm of the impression that it's harder for these individuals to come out of the closet because finding others of the same ethnicity or from the same region that also are gay is not common.

A good friend of mine has been gay for quite a few years...after married to a man for 4 years and realizing that she knew all along she had been pretending to be someone she really wasn't. Good for you that you had the courage to do this now rather than later. I belong to a somewhat (ha, understatement) conservative religion and many people I associate with at church are very homophobic...narrow minded IMO. I am so glad I became friends with this person because she has taught me so much about acceptance and a love of the different qualities that make us who we are. Hopefully your friends will gain such an understanding. As many people have already said, if they are truly your friends they will see that you are the same person you were before you came out, only now you have a great burden lifted from your shoulders. I hope things get easier for you as time goes on...i think they will.

;) good luck

Glad to hear you have the courage to come out - I myself just came out to my friends, ATOT, and some of my family in September :) You're at a great community - you can read my experience here: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...&keyword1=came+out

I can't say that I identify with your experience much, as the people I have told have been really cool about it. Personally, I didn't really change much when I came out - I just told people that I was and that was it - I didn't go around talking about guys that I'm attracted too, etc. I'm just not the kind of person who would put that out there to begin with, regardless of my orientation.

The best advice I can give you is to just be yourself. The fact that you've been existing under this fascia of what you believe to be a straight person isn't going to help. Don't rush into things, and don't pull a total 180 on your friends and family - if anything, you're just going to freak them out. If you need to talk, try and find someone who can identify with your position. Your friends and family will need time to get acclimated to this knowledge. :)

Maybe you should have phrased it differently. I'm sorry, but I DO have a weird sense of humor, ask ANYONE!

Disregard this post...

Same here.

This from someone who suggested church?

Anyway, that was a difficult choice but one you had to make... only advice is to give it time.
