Schools can get permits for group showings. They pay hefty frickin' royalties to the studios every year for it. I know because I was on the committee two years ago at my former university.

Disney (Buena Vista) has historically been very protective of their product (film). To my knowledge they do not grant permits or rentals for films that are out of theatrical release. The reward for turning a violator in is typical of their policies.

I am not sure if this holds true for educational institutions.


Anyway, I think you are an @ss for turning them in purely for your own financial gain.

"you don't like the way the school is being run"? tough luck, nothing you can do about it. and even if you do "turn" the school in, nothing will probably happen anyway. If the school does get hit with a fine, all it means is that 1. you are going to have alot of enemies and you are going to crawl to your parents and beg them to move you to a different school, 2. your school programs will be hurt (less money for school == less money for you at school, you think they are going to cut the teachers pay? hell no, they don't want teachers on strike) and 3. your picture will be in the schools main hall with the caption of "big fvcking looser"

The countless times I saw movies in grade school where the teacher would invite other classes over. Or when there was a special party day and everyone turned in a permission slip to watch a PG film. I'm sure it happens countless times and no one really cares. If it was such a big issue, I'm sure the school would give a warning about possible ownage.

Seriously, that's a good point. What say you to that, Mr. High and Mighty Copyright Enforcer? I guess it's OK for you to speed, but not for your school to show a harmless movie for entertainment purposes.
