and i watch them quite a bit.. cable TV sucks... and I love movies.... I dont undertand your reasoning... dont want to have go back and rent a movie I want to watch again.....
10 bucks per used DVD is not alot to spend...

30 bucks every couple weeks is not a huge waste of money.. I usally buy 3 used dvds from hollywood or the movie trading company every month sometimes more...

I only buy movies I saw in the theater and love... so none of them really dont get watched..

Buying music to listen to repeatedly is not the same as buying movies that will be watched once or twice, MAYBE three times. Also, the 2nd and 3rd viewings are not worth the same as the 1st one.

thats your opinion...i just watched saving private ryan for at least the 8th time, and it was just as enjoyable this time as it was the first.

You know what.....I Would agree with the original poster if It was about a month earlier. I recently started my DVD Collection and I LOVE IT. You see, I thought the same thing too that buying DVD's was stupid becuase you will never watch them...Well, I bet you havent owned more than 10 or so dvds I assume, so you didnt really have much of a selection. Everytime I open my closet to see my collection, I have so many choices its simple to choose one I havent seen in a while. I have been watching 1-2 almost everyday since I started my collection. Its quite a great hobby I think. Whatever floats your boat man.

Also - For people saying its expensive blah blah (Especially to you music fags saying DVDs is a waste of time, but music isnt), I can tell you, I havent spent more than $10 on any 1 dvd (and VERY Few @ $10), this includes in Collectors editions, 2 disk sets, etc.. etc.. Most being around $5-7 ea. So Enjoy your $13-15 Music CD's with 1 Single (Unless your into classics, back when music existed).

I like collecting DVDs, I hate going to the theaters, too expensive and rude people who like to talk during the show. The lastest movie I saw, I sat through 1/2 hour of ads of lousy up-coming movies before the actual movie that I paid $10 to see.

One more thing - I really hate ads in the middle of the movies. While at some time, the ads were short enough (even a bit shorter than a short bathroom break), now they are long enough I could wash dishes or something... four times during a typical movie

This didn't used to be a dumb hobby, but the fact that you can rent and burn movies now makes it dumb. I love seeing people with 100 or more DVDs. At a guesstimated price of $20, that's $2,000. Jesus.

Exactly. I will say "I seen" every once in a while, in a joking manner (immitating people from the south), but I could never type that in a non-joking context. It's just too trashy.

and i watch them constantly.

edit: i would have to say that i agree for the most part. i see people in best buy with shopping carts full of dvds.
its crazy.
my parents enjoy the tv series on dvd because they dont really have a schedule that allows for every tuesday at 9 pm (for example) free to watch tv.

I have a home theater (more than one, technically). My collection is about entetaining guests as much as it is for my own enjoyment.

What good is a home theater if you don't have a broad selection of films on hand to enjoy?

I no longer go to movies. $15 for a DVD beats $50 for tickets and goodies.

Sure, I could rent, but then I'd have to bother returning it, put up with the frustration of getting trashed DVDs that don't work and I could never go back and view it again on a whim.

And sorry, but I'm not a thief. I will not record a rented movie or download a movie.

So that leaves buying the DVD.

All kidding aside, I agree with you. Really I'm collecting a catalog as a legacy token for my children. When they're old enough, I'd like to school them through my list of faves and watch the expression in their eyes as they're about to watch an outstanding movie that they'll remember forever..............Can you imagine the impact of showing them Star Wars for the first time like when we were young? Priceless!
