Colbert sucked at entertainment, makes no difference what his political preferences were.

I'd rather watch paint dry, grass grow, etc, he was never anything other than a placeholder because they couldn't find a better host.

It's amusing when people try to equate this to a conspiracy when it's just terrible tv that wasn't self sustaining because no sane person would watch it instead of, again, paint drying, or grass growing.

Bye bye Colbert. I never missed you. I never give a fsck so just go away so late night has a chance of something worth watching. Comedy can be offensive at times, but it wasn't funny so double fail.

No argument = pathetic

Why bother? You should have better things to do. Triple fail if you don't.

#cantfixstupid

At the same time, I have better things to do than pretend that an argument in this forum matters, so if you want to rant and pretend it's a victory, I'm fine with that.

You are right. He is trash with only winning 10 Emmys

Edit

Johnny Carson who is probably considered one for the greatest late night host only had 6 emmys

You need to adjust your humor

Honestly, funniest thing that could happen on this episode of Late Night America is Trump tanking the merger deal anyway and flipping CBS the bird.

Watch them grovel and then fuck em over anyway.

I just want to say I love how every single line in this post just reeks of projection. You poor bastard.

We do know how much you love your dried paint, those chips are fucking delicious, aren't they? You gobbled them down by the handful as a youth, I'll betcha.

I stayed up last night to watch the actual broadcast instead of online the next day like I usually do. HFS! He went nuclear on the tangerine terrorist!

I hope he keeps it up to the very last day of his contract.

Carson kept his job for 30 years. Colbert didn't quite make it that far. What we learn from this is that having a small audience and not making a profit along with annoying half of your possible audience isn't a winning strategy.
Maybe the next guy will have a better format and better writers.

You do realize he has the highest ratings of all the late night shows right?

The larger issue is a general decline in viewership of the the traditional networks.

In this context, the why doesn't matter. The show couldn't produce enough advertising dollars to be profitable. That's the entire story. Expenses exceeded revenue.

No, no, it's obviously an apples to apples comparison with someone that started out before the advent of cable television and then streaming came along.

Context, nuance? USELESS!

Certainly the “why” doesn’t matter if it might mean corporations are bribing a sitting president in order to get approval for a future merger. And it certainly doesn’t matter if that president is on “my team”.

So dumb

Highest rating in his time slot, yes, but Gutfield has way more viewers, on cable (vs network) TV no less. Tells you where the country's at right now.

Unfortunately now Kimmel and Fallon seem like they're next?

A Republican should know what to do in that situation. Cut the budget! I have several ideas.

- Remove the band. Late Night with Seth Myers did that.
- Remove the theater. They could move to a smaller venue. What to do with the Ed Sullivan Theater? I dunno, they could turn it into self-storage? (That was Colbert's joke.)
- Make it half an hour. They could fit a slightly abbreviated monologue, one guest, and maybe music into that.
- Renegotiate Colbert's contract. They'd probably have to let him do more media independently, but he's going to do that soon anyway.
- Really cut it down and make it podcast-style. (Which Colbert did during the pandemic. Remember "A Late Show"?)

Indeed, as the boomers age and die off, less and less people are watching the regularly scheduled broadcasts
