Colbert was making ~$15 million/year, but CBS can pay Bari "I'm the Silenced Conservative Victim who won't shut up" Weis $150 million?! Clearly, cancelling Colbert was about the money as some here were trying to claim...

From a financial perspective putting a bunch of creepy conservative cranks who make a living flattering old super rich caliper enthusiasts seem like a potential mistake of giant proportions. The general public is not really in the market for this on their TVs and if they are they're getting their fix from Fox News and OANN. The market is saturated.

I think this will end badly and quickly.

I completely agree. Mainstream news organizations do not expand their audience by hiring right wing cranks.

That being said there are so many examples of this happening now that my suspicion is financial success is not the goal.

Yeah, CNN tried this and it has been a disaster.

We'll see how committed they are to eating escalating losses for ideology once they start piling up. When the AI bubble pops few companies are exposed as Oracle and ol Larry might change his mind. The history of people who don't know what they are doing buying media companies is long, rich, and filled with skeletons.

It could be that traditional media doesn’t see a path forward with the current content and sees opportunity in exploiting right wing outrage. We all know fear and rage raise engagement so who knows, maybe it’s purely about the money.

I see the end game in all of this as being a complete backlash against capitalism, the rich and large corporations, assuming the aforementioned can keep the general public “asleep”.

Looks like CBS has officially become state media now after that ridiculous article they wrote yesterday about poor Amy Covid Barrett getting protested against everywhere she goes <worlds-smallest-violin.gif>

Well surely they will have one up soon about the judge whose house was just firebombed.
Have you seen any developments on that?

While it technically could be not a bombing or arson (all I read was the house caught fire) it's extraordinarily coincidental that that happened after the administration criticized the judge and the judge has received multiple threats

I haven't - from what I read the fire was very suspicious but yes it is certainly possible that it was an accident or whatever.
