Skoorb, ah yes, the elegant Lotus. My favorite combo of a light car, and a turbo 4 :)

Neons consistently win autocrosses, check the stats. What is more then performance? Looks perhaps? Too bad Weapon-R doesnt make high quality license brackets for neons, like they do for honda. lol.

ok, more facts, even tho its yord word vs car magazines (heh)

caranddriver.com
Neon R/T
Vehicle type: front-engine, front-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door sedan

Price as tested:. . . . . . . $15,445 (base price:$14,320)
Engine type: DOHC 16-valve 4-in-line, iron block and aluminum head, Chrysler SBEC III engine-control system with port fuel injection

Displacement. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .122 cu in, 1996cc
Power (SAE net) . . . . . . . . . . . . 150 bhp @ 6500 rpm

Torque (SAE net). . . . . . . . . . . 133 lb-ft @ 5500 rpm

next page

Standing 1/4-mile . . . . . . . . . . . .16.4 sec @ 85 mph

Si quote: (i left out the part of it produces 100hp per liter!!)
And its performance, for a 1.6-liter car, is quite amazing. A 0-to-60 sprint in 7.1 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 15.7 seconds at 88 mph, and a top speed of 127 mph are all healthy achievements for a car of this type. And yet the straight-line performance says little about the fun you can have in this car.

god.....im talking about stock vs stock, and how to justify the now CONFIRMED 2.5k more that a SI costs.

do i need to get NFS4 to confirm all this??

back to topic, SI, most bang for buck.

again, .7 seconds. I'm still waiting for you to tell us all about the other things, ie: "there is a lot more into a car than just speed and time."

handling, speed, acceleration, stop time, and for all the civic owners, a really, really big spoiler with tinted windows and a license plate that reads "U R NVS"

no more time to argue with your remarks about spoilers and things that dont matter.
i would get a civic SI over a neon anyday just not to get laughed at b/c its a girl's car.

do you want me to make a poll????!?!

want spec?? everyone of em, get off you lazy butt.

here: civic si 1999

*****the SI rolls away the winner*****

not my fault 2k is soooo much money, especially if you are souping it up....2k should be nothing compared to what you spend afterwards..sc/turbo/nos, cams, etc.

OH YES!!!

it looks like you WILL pay for more...heh

roadandtrack.com
about the new R/T.

The sticker on our test car was just under $20,000, which may seem a lot for a car in the Neon?s class. Still, there?s little this car lacks in terms of features. It has everything from leather and a power sunroof to side airbags and an in-dash 4-CD changer. With the improved power and handling, the Neon R/T is perfect for those who want the comfort and operating ease of a daily driver with the edginess of a weekend warrior.

sounds impressive, ill give it that....for the price:p

bigbootydaddy, i give you that the NEW R/T willcost an arm and a leg, and i would not buy it, again, because it is a 4 cyl for $20k. I dont car if its a solid gold neon, i'm not paying $20k for it. for that price i'd buy a eclipse sypder GT and get 200hp out of a V6.

stock, no doubt, but neons are cheaper, plain and simple, and can be modified to go faster.

<< I hate that stupid word "rice." I think that is a sh!tty way to classify someone. If the person wants to hook up there car for looks let them be, why does everyone have to have performance? I am sure not everyone cares if they have the fastest car on the planet, they just want to make it look nice. I personally like looks and performance, so because I ad a spoiler or put some decals on my car I am a ricer?! >>

Sheesh, for 20k I could walk out the door w/ a VW GTI w/ the 1.8t engine. $500 more and I could have it pushing upwards of 200 HP.

That's a lot of pep in a little package.

<< It really embaresses the Camaro/Mustang guys to get smoked by "Just a little civic" >>

Hahahaha, someone mentioned 127mph as the top speed, hahahaha you better have way more than 127mph for the LS1 Camaro buddy
127mph is just the bottom of 5th gear in the LS1 my friend.
By the way, nothing's better than fried rice in the morning ;)

say a v8 comes with 260 hp and is a 4.6..thats only 56 hp per liter.
(2k stang gt coupe)

civic si..for example:)
I4 1.6 160hp
thats 100hp per liter.

now thats efficiency. v8 are like cheating codes for video games. if you really wanna win, you know what to do. otherwise you can work for it a bit more.

edit: typos

true, 100hp per liter is awesome. The project manager at my company bought a yellow S2000 and it really did surprise me with top end power, but dang, you have to run it in the ground to do it. '98-'01 Z28's with "0" aftermarket parts are running 12's. How many Civics,Si's or neon's are doing that with "0" aftermarket parts? What I mean by "0" aftermarket parts is exactly that down to the stock paper air filter. I have a friend with a 2000 Z28 with everything bone stock running 12.8's 1/4 mile @107. Traction is a bit of a problem too. ET Streets should put him in the 12.4's more than likely. I don't hate civics and the like, they're just not my preference like Cobras and GT's are not my preference. That's all :)

yeah, you can have your preference, no one takes that away from you. but if honda dedicated itself in that market, and fined tuned their cars as well as they do the I4s, then in theory they would have a 4.0L 400hp V8.

edit: oh, my point was if they made v8s, they would hang in their with their v8s. civic are aimed at economy and reliablity, the fact that that neon above creamed that viper is amazing in itself, hence you cant compare v8 with i4, its like the USA dream team in basketball during olympics...its not a fair and nor an equal playing field.

Forget about fuel economy when you hit 5500rpm in your civic si. Fuel economy goes down as low as 18 mpg when you decide to have some fun with the car, those tiny 1.6L engines devour more fuel than most v6's.

Good info on how vtec works.
