I think the '00 SI's put out 160 horsepower stock, and about 30 ft-lbs torque - j/k :)

The new SI's put out a mere 127 vs. about 115 on the other civics, so they are rather overpriced, although they are the only civic available in that beautiful off-gold color.

160 stock, like 120 or so at the wheels.

the s2k was like 28k when they wanted to sell me one, but i knew insurance would be thru the roof. (heck i pay 245 a month now!) but the markup on s2k is crazy!! they are in such demand that it drove it up to 42k!!

bigbootydaddy, you laugh at a neon? You paid 20k for a 4 cylinder car!!! LOL I have seen Neons faster than vipers. In fact, i have sen clips of a neon beating a viper.

Here it is

an 11 second 4 cylinder, not too shabby.

They're overpriced for the performance and practicality. I know I'm gonna sound like Valhalla here, but you could spend 25k on a 325HP Camaro and rip the doors off of any stock Honda. But for 40k and up, 240HP just isn't cutting it (even if it's in a 2700lb car). Don't get me wrong though, it's a very refined vehicle, I just think that it was produced for the sole purpose of showcasing Honda's 4 cyl engines. They coulda swallowed their pride and tossed their 3.0 under the hood, which woulda yielded more HP and more torque. Hopefully they'll opt for that in the next iteration of the S2k

iamwiz, I like the Neon's too, but they need to bring back the 2 door!!! But the older ones are cool in my book, 150HP isn't bad at all and nothing to scoff at

lol, nice vid. That's not the only FWD Mopar out there that can run those times, have you ever seen the 10 second K car?? Vids

Check out Gary Donovan's 10.86 run. Imagine getting burnt by that thing? lol

genocide, i hear ya, the 2nd gen neons are not exactly in the same field as 1st gen. There is a conversion to the 2.4L engine though, the one they put in the PT cruiser and Breeze. more torque.

yes, but you spent $20k on that car, while Len Ayala(who owns that car) spends $10, and then drops $10k in mods and has a car that is faster than a viper.

And the difference between a neon R/T and a civic si in the quarter mile is small, about .3-.7 seconds. so ten thousand dollars buys you about half a second.

In all fairness wiz, you were comparing a much older RT(the on in the vid) to a current Si...

dude...im not...those are 99 prices, there is no 2k1 si and no 2k R/t, 99 was their only concurrent year...my friend bought a R/T. 16k. i have an si. 18k.

edmunds.com has resale vaule(not original prices but if i see them ill post):

1999 Dodge Neon 2 Dr R/T Coupe (used)
Trade-In: $7,539
Private Party Market: $8,341
Dealer Retail: $9,678

1999 Honda Civic Si Coupe (used)
Trade-In: $12,332
Private Party Market: $13,376
Dealer Retail: $15,117

seems like neons lose value to fast, more important than speed to the average customer.

Just for grins:
2000 Honda Civic Si Coupe (used)

Trade-In: $13,428
Private Party Market: $14,486
Dealer Retail: $16,250

plus, you fail to mention a Neon R/T has a 2.0 liter and an SI has ONLY a 1.6, and
the si puts out more power with less consumption (vtec baby). thats worth the 2k in my book. i dont have to spend a portion of that 10k in catching up to stock SI standards. if i only spend 8k on the civic, and 10k on the neon, so that the money balances out, the civic will eat it alive. thank you.

No doubt the Honda will hold its value better...

Bigbooty, in Canada the 2001 SI lives on! Although its a bit neutered...

urbantechie - Can you say, "White people"... - come to LA and see how many "white people" drive riced up civics and integras...

i personally don't find anything wrong with making your car look good, but putting a stock-car muffler and adding type-R and M3 stickers to a civic is just plain ridiculous. just add some NOS instead.

although it has been rumored that each sticker adds 20+hp...

oh yeah... i forgot to mention the good old "rice-by" after these decked out cars get burned...

What are the stock 1/4 times on that Si? From what I'm seeing, an R/T runs 15.9, and a Si runs 15.7...unless if these numbers are grossly off, I can't see that as being "devoured"

<< your friend overpaid then, cuz my brother bought a 99 neon non-r/t for $9,375 >>

cause the R/T package is more. look at the prices i put. right now u get a R/T for 9.5k i think 15-16k is just about right when it was new, and all sport packages are inhuge demand, any car.

try to find an Si right now. if you walk out with it for less than 21k you are very lucky.

i quoted car and driver mag, im trying to find it. 1/4 miles are not the only thing. there is a lot more into a car than just speed and times, just ask anyone who knows.

why would i want one?!?! Honda Si's are a dime a dozen. The rarest car honda makes is a Si without a 4" drop and 3 foot spoiler.

And again, i am not gonna pay 21,000 dollars for a 4 cyl.
