Citi Dividend Platinum card undergoing changes?

I think they're nerfing the card, which I kind've expected to happen after Chase did it with theirs.

Thread of Note

If you try to apply for the card on their site right now, a pop comes up saying the card is undergoing changes and to try again at a later date. Apparently the card may be going down from 5% for gas, groceries, and drugstores to 2%. But they'll add utilities and cable into that 2%. Sucks.

Ah that stinks. That cashback is my vacation money lol.

Edit: Does that mean it affects existing users or only new users?

Both. Notices are going to be sent out within the next month. Apparently this will take effect in October.

That blows.

I can't stand how every agreement I have or have seen has the verbage "we can change this agreement in any way at any time"

Try getting that kind of BS into any contract. It's like a catch all.

you should still have the option to keep the origianl customer agreement, no?

No, they can change the terms at any time for any reason

What they have to do is allow you the option of ceasing to use the card, or agreeing to the changes and continuing to use the card.

If this is all true and the 3%/5% cash benefits end, I'll be cancelling my account with Citi.

You'd probably be hurting your credit history in doing so, so I would take that into consideration.

The rewards program is not necessarily part of the terms and conditions of the account.

A change in terms will generally have a right to opt out, but the card commits suicide at its expiration.

This is not a change in terms, but a modification of the rewards program. The card agreement is generally not affected.

For all who want to throw a fit and close their account, well, only shopping at 5% places probably is just losing Citi money anyways.

My credit history is perfect. I think I'll survive. Or I just not use it and let it expire. Fine too.

they changed the policy on the chase version of the card??? dammit!! i didn't notice!! i can get one through my bank that is 4% cash back on the stuff

So what happens to Dividend Platinum Select users like me and the cash I have owned to me?

Nothing will change, the 5% purchases will drop down to 2% purchases (rumor is this will happen in October). I'm currently at $34 so I shouldn't have a prolem hitting $50 by October. Than I'll cancel and find a good replacement or charge this stuff on my airline cards.

There will probably be a domino effect after this happens. I'm sure Chase will do the same thing with their Rewards card.

Well, I may be applying to switch over my Amex Blue to a Costco Amex sooner than I'd intended.

Should switch ASAP because Costco amex gives you 3% off eating out =). Amex Blue is stupid because you need to spend a buttload to get those 5% (or was that blue cash... bleh, I get confused)
