I await my Chase Cash Plus Rewards Card :p

I thought the conclusion on fatwallet was that they were winding that card's benefits back too... discover has already wound back their gas card....

Worst case scenario- They nerf the card in 4-6 months, but I still get a half a year of benefits, plus the $100 gift card for signing up :)

http://www.creditcards.com/credit-cards/chase-cash-plus-rewards-visa-card.php

Even the 3rd party sites are marking it as unavailable.

Good luck with that giftcard :)

I went through this link

I think I'll pass...

Not worth the hassle of more credit scuff-ups when I need to be trying to get my first amex...

What's so great about Amex? I prefer Visa and/or MC over them. More widely accepted.

They offer double warranty on hardware purchases :)

Edit: linkage (link doesn't paste right, edit it by hand after you click it)

"Suddenly your laptop just stops working. Not to worry if you bought it with your Card.

Double Your Warranty ? For example if you have a six-month manufacturer's warranty, we will add another six months. If you have a one-year manufacturer's warranty we will add one additional year."

Let's say that you're stranded in a latin american country... hundreds of miles from a consulate. Which would you rather be carrying? Who would you rather be able to call?

AMEX customer service, once you get in to their system, is ledgendary. I know people who can credit it with saving their lives...

I have 4 of their cards so I'm not saying they don't have their positives. I wouldn't call their CS legendary though. It took them 5 months to credit my Starwood bonus points, and it took multiple calls and emails to get them to do so.

Pretty dumb to rely on a credit card for your life. Lucky for me, I only need it to purchase items at merchants.

I was just approved for an Amex Blue Cash with a 5 digit credit line. All of that sweating and stressing for nothing...

Now the real question is, while I'm bloodying up my credit with all of these inquiries and applications if I shouldn't go ahead and get the last credit card I was eyeing up....

Multiple inquiries within a period of two weeks (depending on type) count as one

Here's the story:

Before the Shah fell in Iran, my dad was on an expedition with the ivy league school he was studying at. Parts of Iran were just as touchy then as the whole country is now. There was some completle logistical fvckup that was beyond his control and he was left stranded alone at an outland airport where if he had been forced to stay the night, he probably would have been abducted and killed. The only financial tool he had at his disposal was his AMEX green card which his first wife had to co-sign with him to get. The ticket that got him out of there on the last flight cleared in London. It was worth more than his whole annual salary and all of his assets combined, yet AMEX still bailed him out. He expensed it and was reimbursed, but he still credits AMEX for saving his life when he was sure that any other CC would have let him down.

How's that?

I got fvcked in the Wachovia/MBNA/BOFA transition too. I have a Wachovia branded CC and BOFA is getting the rights to it, which means that Wachovia had to make a me new account (completley contrary to what I was originally told would happen). Now BOFA (who I want nothing to do with) has custody of my oldest credit line :(

Wachovia then jipped me on my credit line on the cloned account (which I need to maintain my crown accounts) and I had to raise hell to get that fixed. Now I have to deal with this nonsense with my Citicard :(

It's never dull....

I wan't to refrain from making a comment about how you probably woudln't understand the benefit of that kind of customer service since you probably live in you'r mom's basement, but I can't :)

Sometimes you find yourself in sticky situations. That's called "life." If you think that's called "dumb," you have bigger problems.

I have a question about this...
If I don't get to $50 before this goes into effect, will I be screwed out of the 5% I've already made? Or will it still be on there.

They aren't ENDING the cash rebate program, they are just changing the cash back percentages. You'll still have whatever you already earned under the old rules, and will continue to earn cash back under the new rules.

Cards lure you in, then change the terms to make more money. Those slips of paper the enclose in the bill with all the small print. Usually the bad news is near the end where nobody reads.
Basically, they tell you that this is the change, and that if you Continue to use the card, you have accepted the change.

Unless they charge a yealy fee, it may be better to destroy your card but keep account open, rather than closing your account, as far as credit reports go. B/c someone can look at your report and say: "He had xxxx credit, now he only has xx credit available. Could be a problem".

You have to keep charging your cards from time to time for them to stay on your credit report. In the months before I make major purchaces, I take care to charge packs of gum to each of my major credit lines.

Doesn't sound right to me, at least I've never read that anywhere myself. Does anyone know for sure?

I can tell you for sure. My last charge to my biggest credit card line was in late april-ish. When I went to buy a house and had my credit pulled in late June, the credit card was nowhere to be found. Non-active credit cards drop off credit reports. Fact.

I think it depends on the individual bank. There is no requirement for the bank to report every month, so some don't. Others only report if you've had a positive balance sometime in the last 2/3/6/12/etc months.

I've specifically been turned down for credit due to one bank that would only report if you had a balance in the last 60 days. I hadn't carried a balance in nearly a year, and the spotty reporting record dropped my credit pretty bad....
