That being said, if the US was to go to war with China, our economy would take a dip, and it would rebound quickly. Hell I would argue that it would be phenomenal for our country. Manufacturing would be relocated closer to the US with a large portion being restarted in the US itself. A war with China would be the best thing for America.

The flaw in this logic is that by the time the United States dared choose to defend Taiwan, the war would be over.

China can do what it wants.

China doesn't have the capability to invade Taiwan and keep their supply lines open. Taiwan only has a few spots that can be invaded from the sea. These spots are heavily defended. Even if China managed to land a force. Our 7th fleet and Taiwanese air forces would keep them from being resupplied.

There would be no need for ground troops, but yes, the majority of Chinese people, in caves, cannot and would not be able to attack or attempt to attack the US ground troops, if there were ever boots on the ground.

I ment economically wise. I don't condone violence and warfare, I was merely entertaining a hypothetical.

A conventional war against China would make industrial life incredibly painful in the US for years, but we'd struggle by and eventually either domestic or other foreign businesses would step in.

China's government would not survive - even if we choose not to strike civilian targets on the Chinese mainland. The US would be able to dismantle the Chinese military and more importantly, block all sea trade to and from China. China wouldn't be able to sell their goods not just to the US, but to the rest of the world in any volume. No oil tankers could reach them and pipelines are laughable to destroy. We could economically cut them off from the rest of the world and their populace would not keep leaders in place who brought them to economic collapse.

So the OP is right in that our SSN force would be one of the most critical components in cutting off China's legs economically.

I think some people here might be forgetting the 'area denial' focus here. We're not talking all out flattening the entire country or occupying it, just neutering their capacity to threaten others for a time.

I get the feeling it might look a little like the maritime version of Highway 80 for awhile. China might wise up and suddenly be happy that it landed a punch or two on the Japanese or Taiwanese or whomever and then sue for peace.
The economic fallout would hurt us but cripple them. I can see countries like South Korea, India, and Vietnam taking up the slack at a break neck pace, along with massive industrialization at home like we saw after Pearl Harbor.

Choosing to going to war against American subs and air power isn't just China shooting itself in the foot, it's China strapping a claymore to each knee and touching those fuckers off.

Speaking of, there is a good amount of posters here convinced they can overcome the gov forces if it comes to it.
Add in all the topics about police state etc, It seems Americans themselves aren't happy being Americans.
Even if most of the military itself wouldn't fight Americans, the thousands of different groups would fight each other forever

The U.S. will not engage China in a war, just like the U.S. will not engage Russia in a war. If China moves on Taiwan, China will take Taiwan.

No one is advocating invading or occupying China, even in the event of a war. As someone mentioned earlier, you wipe out their Air Force, Navy, and military bases using air and naval power and then just blockade them.
