If all that the left has to talk about is a former vice-president and a talk show host, I dont know what to tell you.

It was a former VP that shoved his foot in his mouth by saying he considered a former(?) drug addict, multiple married talk show host to a career Army officer who has served his , agree with him or not, for most of his adult life a better Republican.

Hmmmmm.... interesting standard Cheny has.

Former drug addict: can't we say the same about Obama at least Rush got help.

An Army officer that was known as an Uncle Tom by the left until he started speaking out against the right. How is it that the left now holds an Army officer in such high esteem, it wasn't that long ago the left was running adds against General "Betray Us".

As far as Chaney's standard they aren't that high, Powell has been bashing the Republican party, he voted for Obama, is that so hard to believe?

I'd love to see where the "left" attacked Powell and labeled him as an "uncle tom" prior to his staunch support for the worst President in our history. In the end, his support was only because he was a person loyal to the country, which we didn't see until his CIC betrayed him.

Powell is bashing the Repugs for the same reason they lost the election, they are a conceited party more full of wedge issues and fluff than anything real. They parrot small government, but when they had 6 years of ability to make it, they fucked the US people over.

If you look at the "Republican" party in the last 26 years, they've managed to pump up the debt by 99%. The only true "Republican" small-government, budget reducer, was a Democrat. That's how much of a joke that party is now, they are more left than the left in every aspect but social conservatism. There, they wish to control everybody, because they are insecure and corrupt themselves.

If you're only big flagship is a guy who bashes druggies but is one himself, who bashes people about gay marriage destroying the concept of marriage, but gets multiple divorces while ruining the concept of marriage, then you are in a lot of trouble. Obama didn't have a drug problem, he didn't need help, thus he didn't seek it. Your fat fool is your captain and your ship is sinking. You are a decrepit and corrupt person and you cling to the same.

I hope that people like Powell, true Republicans, are able to bifurcate the party and finally lead this country down the the path of true Republicanism.

Like it or not, Cheney is right. The Republicans, as they are now, are indeed better served by the likes of Limbaughs, Cheneys, and Palins than it is by moderates like Specter and Powell. However, this is largely because the Republican party has morphed into more of a fascist, theocratic model over the last 20 year, and thus these guys fit right into the mold. Accepting moderates and trying to be more "inclusive" dilutes the ideology. The Republican party shouldn't exist for its own sake; it should stand for something.

Of course, I don't necessarily agree with that something that it stands for, and if the vast majority of Americans don't either then it deserves to be marginalized.

Time for a new political party: Center-right, with nods toward being socially progressive, yet fiscally conservative.

Democrats are so inclusive that they kick out Lieberman, the Republicans should have done that to Specter and McCain but....

lieberman didn't get kicked out, he just lost the primary and still won the election, and is still a democrat. Thats something that happens in the republican party all the time.

More or less. What's funny about fools like Bud, instead of telling Rush to shut the hell up, he encourages him and more divisiveness within the Repugs. It's hilarious.

Cheney has about the same creditability as a $3 bill. Why would ANYBODY give credence to ANYTHING he has to say?

He is a proven-beyond-doubt chronic liar who is only rivaled in this regard by his "Boss" Bush.

His words are contaminated, corrupted and driven by an agenda of divisive exclusivity. He loathes the common "peasant" man and pampers the ultra rich of which he shares initimate unanimity with. He is a self-serving megalomaniac and his actions as VP prove that beyond doubt.

No small wonder he was chosen VP to "properly" ride herd over the scatter-brained Bush.

In a court of law he should be assumed an inveterate liar on a word for word basis unless proven otherwise.

I disregard everything he has to say as his words are empty and meaningless.

While I can somewhat agree with the Legandkiller take of, "More or less. What's funny about fools like Bud, instead of telling Rush to shut the hell up, he encourages him and more divisiveness within the Repugs. It's hilarious."

I can't agree that its hilarious, any way you look at it its a damn tragedy for everyone.

I think now we know why the country went down the crapper.

Put this guy and bush together and you have the most stupidest people on the planet.

I wish this guy would just have his heart attack and get it over with already. Every time he talks he just makes a fool out of himself.

This is the left.....

Oh please, get out of here with that bullshit, you think no one on the right has ever said anything like that?

This is popular sentiment of the left especially if you throw Bush in the mix.

That's not what I asked but cute skirting of the issue there!

Yup... I am the left. I am in favor of the death penalty, and I think this asshole Cheney should be first in line. I am also proud of my position on that.

It's really not that absurd - that talk show host has more influence in the republican party than any other single person in it. The fact that people are continually in denial about this is what's surprising.

That's a dumbass question, apx 1/2 the country is Republican so it's hard to say that absolutely no one has ever said that, compare that to 50% of the radical left has vocalized the demise of our past president.

When Cheney claims he, Rush Limbaugh, Jeb Bush and Romney are the stalwarts of the republican party, while a hugely popular former Rep SoS, Joint Chiefs Chairman, and author of his own military doctrine is a democrat... well.. you know you are headed for huge electoral wins in 2010. hahahaha

Who, Limbaugh or Powell, represents the direction for the GOP becoming a national party as opposed to being a regional party of the southern US?

The GOP, as Mr Limbaugh put it, has to be hoping that Mr Obama fails.

Limbaugh probably does represent the base right now. The republicans are tossed back onto their base. But they will have to change in order to grow out of the base and appeal to moderates. This has happened to both parties over the course of our history. I find it amusing people proclaiming the Republicans death. I believe there were times in the late 70s and 80s where republicans held less control in both houses. Jummy Carters first term the democrats held more seats and controlled the executive branch. That worked out well for them.

I don't understand why anyone would want a one party system at all. If they think theirs if benign, it certainly won't be once all effective restraints are gone.
