Outpost has a SOYO 15.4" widescreen LCD on sale today only for $69.99 limit one per customer. Shipping is extra but they are always very fair with shipping, i ordered that with a bunch of other stuff and it was only $10 shipping. Other than 600:1 it doesnt give much for specs, i have no clue what the refresh rate is, but for $69 im not expecting much.

Nice price for a small screen.
Note that because it is widescreen (16:10), it is noticeably smaller than a typical (4:3) 15" screen.
With best results obtained at it's native resolution of 1280x800, make sure your eyes will handle that small size on a small screen.

You would not want to go from a 17" CRT to this, unless space was worth the major downgrade in pix. With a 15" CRT, it might make a good swap choice if you were broke. It would also make a good display for small areas like kitchen or bathroom.

Picked one up, thanks for the heads up..

and wow didnt notice the widescreen untill now gg for that

also really nice to add to other monitors for programming/graphics work, i have a second 19" widescreen for use with visual studio/outlook. i put the main coding/view work on the main screen and use the smaller screen for storing the toolbox/solution explorer/server explorer/properties panels. really minimizes on swapping/scrolling around. a 3rd monitor is on the other side with browsers open to view live results of the web work.

this is pretty much the lcd you would see in many widescreen laptops. although i'm guessing the refresh rate wouldn't be that great for the price, but who knows...

i'm desperately trying to justify a potential purchase for home use.

how good is this for gaming. i mean not professinal gaming but light gaming. and how will this compare in size to a 17" CRT. also anyone know if it has DVI or not ?

Should make a nice little monitor for bench testing and it sure beats lugging around a CRT. I'm in for one. Thanks!

LCDs don't have refresh rates like CRTs do. Response time is what you look for in an LCD since the refresh rates are all the same 😉

I wouldn't expect much from a cheap LCD, Soyo at that, but hey for that price it would be great for benches, server monitor, or like araczynski said as a secondary monitor and put toolbars and such on it.

Too bad I don't have enough money to justify buying one for the heck of it 😛

After the SOYO rebate fiasco 2 years ago I will never but a SOYO product ever again.
They are crooks that should be in jail.

I got all of my Soyo rebates after waiting a very long time - but there's no rebate here so that doesn't matter, does it?

This would actually be very nice for dual monitor use with a 15.4" laptop. Having two monitors of the same size and resolution makes for the easiest/cleanest use of dual monitors.

I'd be all over this if I still had a 15.4" lappy. Nice find.

Soyo is a reputable company. I don't know anything about the rebate fiasco, but I've never purchased one of their LCD's. I do have experience with several of their motherboards, both of which were excellent boards. If the monitors are anywhere near the same quality, there should be no problem other than the ridiculously small size.

well i just got one out of the box and hooked it up, it looks nice, no DVI but built in CHEAP speakers, but overall the monitor was good for the price, sitting next to a 17" LCD it does look small, but picture is good. still cant figure out the refresh rate on it, but will update you all on this when i get it figured out. sorry about forgetting the link i got sidetracked and my mind wandered.

Any pics? Side by side comparison?

sorry i dont have my camera here to take any pics at the moment. but you lose a little over an inch in height, but dont lose anything in width, so its not bad, and one thing i liked was the fact that it sits pretty solid, the 17" seems a little top heavy on the base.

****** man, i think im gonan buy one of these. I was gonna get a second Dell 1907FP for $242 But I might just get this lil doozy instead. Jesus.... I alreayd spent enough money saving money.

Got one!
