CHEAP LCD 15.4" SOYO $69.99 no rebate

Just received mine, and is what was expected.
Very small, ( for comparison, my personal laptop is a small 17" widescreen, and next laptop will be a 19"), poor viewing angle, and two dead pixels near the center, but for a temporary test screen, it will work well with it's $75 delivered price.

Have several laptops, and although size is the same as laptop 15.4" wide screen, image quality is no where close. If you rated the laptop quality an 8, these would rate a about a 5 at best.

Definitely not a good primary viewing device.
If you must have a cheap primary screen, get a used 17" CRT for MUCH better results.
Even a 13" CRT would be MUCH better for image quality.

Edit: just measured viewing height, and it is a tall 8.25".... Played a DVD and I don't think I have ever seen an LCD anywhere close to this bad. It is O.K. and useable if you are at just the right angle, but even then, still the worst I have ever seen. At $69.99 it is no deal, as it is priced at what it is worth. Not worth $80 or more delivered, so forget about it's regular price.

Passed it on to folks who are still using 17" and 19" CRTs as main displays, hate lugging the beasts to LAN parties, and can't afford to drop $200+ on a nice all around LCD display.

Basicly they will use them for LANs only.

Just got one today. anyone running it at 1280x800? it appears that the panel is 1280x768 to me. definitely very cheap. lots of backlight bleed on the bottom; but hey i'm using it as a console for the server and should run cheaper than the old 14" CRT.

Yes, running it at 1280x800 here, which meets the spec'd 16:10 widescreen format.

Will also be using it for LAN parties as well as taking it with me to job sites where servers have no monitor. It will be a beater, but judging by the high quality of parts used, I don't expect it to hold up for very long. Those buttons sure are a joy to use...:frown:

I received my LCD this afternoon. It was stuck inside the front door when I got home from work today. Let me start by saying that I am no authority on LCD?s, but I know what I like and don?t like. After playing around with this little LCD for about an hour, here are my observations.


Pros:
Price - $77.00 shipped
Picture Quality is on average for a lower end LCD
OSD is very simple and easy to set up

Cons:
Very light and cheap feeling
Buttons are a little awkward
Viewing angle is pretty narrow

Mine has very little or no back light leakage
No dead or stuck pixels

I have to say, for the money it isn?t bad. That?s my 2 cents folks.

If anyone wants to see pictures let me know and I?ll put some up.

Well, mine showed up right as I was leaving for work. I'm quite happy with it though. The viewing angle is pretty poor admittedly, and the backlight is damn bright. BUT, for an $85 LCD, I'm quite happy with it. Saves me a TON of desk space on my L-desk. I wish could buy another for my workbench.

Got mine yesterday, I'll throw in my 2 cents:

It's real light, I think the shipping weight is like 7lbs so the monitor itself is maybe 5-6.

The base is attached using 4 screws, and then it has these little covers that slip on to hide the whole assembly. Kind of a pain in the ass compared to the snap in stands on most other monitors, but it does have a secure fit.

Response time, though not spec'd, actually seems pretty decent. I played CoD2 and NFS:MW on it and personally didn't see any ghosting, YMMV on that though.

The resolution is 1280x800, and I like that, good thing for text/web browsing which is probably what most people will be using it for, kind of an odd resolution for gaming though.

It's very bright, way more than necessary, mine came at 50% brightness and contrast, anything higher just looks ridiculous.

Backlight bleed, pretty noticable, especially down at the bottom, not quite as bad on the top/sides. Not as intrusive on lighter colors though.

Viewing angles, as mentioned aren't very good. It's a small monitor though so you probably won't be tryin to use it from anywhere other than head on anyways.

As with any LCD, it sucks outside of its native resolution. Maybe even moreso than other non widescreen monitors if you try using a 4:3 resolution on it.

Oh yeah, and the buttons suck ass. I don't know who the hell decided that sh!t would be a good idea, but if you like to play with the OSD a lot, you're gonna be pissed.

I bought it to use it side by side with my 19" Acer (AL1916ASD) which is a budget monitor itself, nothing special by any means. The Acer seems to have more color detail to it even though they should both be 16.2m, the Soyo is brighter and more washed out looking next to the Acer which is a bit darker and more rich, I guess. But overall I wouldn't hesitate to bring it to a LAN over the Acer due to its smaller size. When it's not being directly compared to a slightly better monitor there's not much to detract from the experience when playing a game visually other than the viewing angles and backlight bleed.

So that's basically my initial impression of the Soyo. Mine came with 1 dead pixel, and it's just about smack dab in the middle of the fvcking screen. I don't mind dead pixels around the borders but this one likes to jump out and whipkick me in the face. If any late-comers missed out on this deal and don't mind a dead pixel right in the center of the screen (stuck on pink, but blends in with white) I may sell mine, PM me.

I ordered this lcd on Wednesday and received it Friday. It takes 1-2 mins to assemble the 4 screws and hinge covers. The control buttons on the monitor are very unusual (they are located on the bottom of the panel), but the monitor looks great. It's the same size as my laptop screen, and has the same resolution I believe. It doesn't look half bad. I bought it to replace the 15" lcd for my family computer (the screen was cracked). It's about the same width as a 17" lcd, but less height. It came with 0 dead pixels. Well worth the $78 shipped price I paid, so I bought a 2nd 1 for 1 of my test systems in my room.

As it was probably a Laptop pannel originally restricted viewing angle is a good thing unless using it for presentations. I don't want other people on the train looking at my buisness contacts.
